That automatic feature is very welcome, and works great. 👍
Definitely want to try it!
@cem_olcay
The sequencer could be advanced by a midi note instead of a clock. This would permit rhythmic control of the arp by RhythmBud or another drum sequencer.
@cem_olcay I'd love to be part of the beta team. I have several ipads and OS versions that I could load it on to get varied test cases.
I wish Textquencer had that feature.
That comment made my day! That's the whole purpose of this app, a super quick, simple and fun arp
Glad to hear that!
The arp has an internal clock, so you don't have to press the play button on your DAW
You can disable the retrigger option for advancing the sequencer without the reset every time you press a new key.
Sure, dm your email address.
It might in the future
100%! ❤️ I wish more apps in general would support this feature. Kind of virtual clock pulses.
This would be awesome:)
It has an internal clock! You don't have to press the play button on your DAW
For me the main reason why I would like to see more apps supporting "virtual clock pulses" is that these pulses can be irregular events, triggered by a wide range of sources: Other sequencers, the keyboard, basically whatever you like. And it can be as fast or as slow as you like.
Yes, would be great
Oh I see, like a eurorack setup, totally agree. AUv3 plugins receiving their 'ticks' from their host app. Technically, a host app could let us tweak that per plugin or let us to choose the source, like a signal from another app. I'm not sure though, need to try it myself
@cem_olcay is the beta still open for this app? Have all your stuff... Am always excited for your take on things.
Yes, just dm your email address. I already told like 6-7 posts above but you missed that I guess
Well you could set it up, so the all the host needs to do, is let you route midi to your app.
In the case of Textquencer, which doesn't use midi input, so far, you could disable any clock (the host's and the plugin's clocks), progress in the sequence, when a note arrives, and hold the gate open until the note off (could be fancy with polyphony, too, but monophonically would be really nice already).
In the case of a sequencer, that does use midi input, you could use a key, you wouldn't use to trigger the next step (C-2 for example).
And like that you could point any kind of midi to the sequencer to generate rhythms (played by hand, stochastic, Euclidean...).
Like an "open gate" signal, make sense. I need to go back to my lair do science stuff lol 🧪
Keep the ideas and feedbacks coming please ❤️
I'm planning to release the app on April 4th. I probably start a new "official" discussion in a few days when everything is ready.
Rozeta Cells and a few other Rozeta apps have this feature where if you set it to “manual”, it ignores the host clock. Instead it advances to the next step on receiving a midi note. So the Cells sequencer’s rhythm can be controlled by an external drum sequencer, or by playing a keyboard note, etc.
That's super cool! But my point is, if we can standardize the "tweak the plugin's clock" behavior on the DAW level, all of the plugins can profit at once for free. Like using a clock divider module between the master clock and the actual sound modules in a case.
@cem_olcay fantastic way to quickly get ideas going. I wish all of your apps had thr auto advance pattern option... Makes it easier to get bigger, evolving musical ideas together!
I think that having the option to set a scale constraint would be great as it would allow for the output to harmonize well of that's what you want. Steppolyarp has this function and it's very powerful.
Also think it would be cool if you could have polyphonic sequences where steps can overlap (like if you had a step that was a bar long overlapping with shorter steps) This would allow for users to throw chords or 'arp' do interesting harmonies.
I've got the beta and I really like the look and feel of the app. The visual feedback on playback is a really nice touch. It feels very easy to use, like all of the Bud apps and very responsive. Drawing on the screen flows well. It took me a bit of time to understand how what it does vs. the other Bud apps, but it's totally clear now and definitely has a distinct place. I also have a very good feel for how to use it to create interesting performances. The retrigger option is very important because it gives you the flexibility to control how far into the pattern you want it to go, and the pattern chaining is very cool.
One of the ways that I see this can be used is to have specific shapes suited for certain scales, to bring out the character of the scale. For example, when using the Lydian scale (actually mode), you can focus on the #4 to make it stand out, which can be done by shaping the contour around that note, repetition of it, and half-step moves up and down into it.
**Sidenote: This isn't strictly feedback, but a wish. I'd like to have a way to save the patterns off and load them up from the file system or a pool. I've got a lot of really nice patterns that I've found for several of the Bud apps, and I primarily use AUM for these and it saves with the state, but it would be nice to be able to select a pattern and load it with a click (Pattern 1 = Groovy, Pattern 2 = Slow Jam, etc.). I've got some real nice patterns that I use for RhythmBud (which I know is one of the older apps), which I can use in different projects. // If the brilliant minds here know of ways to do this please share!! //
For example, there could be a pattern pool for Major scale, one for Minor, etc. and you could then load them up manually or draw them up randomly from the pool and have it change. I could envision something similar to BrainBud, but it could be a master pattern coordinator - so that you could sort of use scenes which would load patterns across a number of Bud modules. You certainly could to this yourself by setting up buttons in 4Pockets Surface Builder (or Loopy Pro, etc.) that would switch patterns based on a pool, and switch patterns across a number of Bud apps at once. I may experiment with that a bit.
I hope this is helpful! Really enjoying this app in the beta phase so far. Thanks Cem! 👍
I released a new beta version. I also submit this version to App Store, will be ready on April 4th!
Please let me know if you have any issues/feedbacks 🙏

Interesting. Love to test it when you get to beta stage @cem_olcay
To have load/save pattern feature is a great idea and I hope Cem will find a way as always
I've been using the arp through Rozeta Scalar to get patterns to be in scale. Would love to see a lock to scale option so you could choose to have arps that are in harmony or if you choose, to turn that scale off and leave the reservation 😉
This such a strong +1 on this feature from me. Shiftbud, in particular, would become super useful to me, in generating excellent baselines, if advanced by an external midi note.
Having irregular rhythms and patterns (from say a kick drum pattern, or Euclidean generator) are just more useful than steady, unbroken streams of quarter, eighth or sixteenth notes.
Thanks for considering implementing this feature into your generators!
Huge +1 on this also. Any sequencer that can advance on external note becomes exponentially more musical and useful. Mozaic scripts Hypnosequence and Infinity Looper do this very well, btw.
But they are in scale—change to a C Pentatonic Major for example and it will only show 5 notes per octave, the notes in that scale. If you want to go ‘off reservation’ just choose the chromatic scale. Or my e I’m misunderstanding what you’re asking for!
@cem_olcay i kinda wish you could reduce (temporarily) the number of steps without erasing them eg. I might have a pattern with 1st steps and want to reduce it to 12 steps for a short while, then bring it back to 16 again and have it play the same pattern it was playing when it was at 16 steps earlier. All by simply sliding the ‘steps’ value. That is not possible currently. Currently, if I reduce a 16-step pattern to a 12 step pattern and then back up to 16, the last 4 notes will be rests. Some might prefer that, would be good to have the option to toggle between those 2 modes though.
Ah, my mistake @Gavinski! Sorry for the confusion @cem_olcay. Loving the app and excited to pick it up once it drops. Now I'm anxiously awaiting a new sequencer from you... Maybe something that uses > @Gavinski said:
@Gavinski hmm, maybe my test flight is on an old build? It's on automatic update though... Don't see anything that let's me try to download the newest build. I can't choose the key, just a scale at the bottom of the app window. So if I play a D note there are B flats which won't work if I'm trying to play in A minor.
