Hey everyone, I'm back after a week long break
The new update will be live soon, it's a big one!

I updated the scale picker. It will show the current scale, the search bar's case sensitivity fixed and you can now add favorite scales! The new favorite section will show the favorite scales, and it will work across the bud apps universe (gonna update them throughout the week starting with BrainBud).

The "rate app" link is also fixed. It wasn't working on iOS 17+ apparently, the new version will fix it.

Also I updated the control strip's sizing. The pattern section has the priority now, and it will grow as you add more patterns (like all the other buds) until it hit the control strip's borders.

I'll let you now when the update is live, looking forward for your feedbacks!

Hi @cem_olcay, hope you had a good holiday. The update just came through. I love the idea with the shared favourite scales. I would still prefer the selected scale being visible in the UI. From the live players perspective you want to avoid any unnecessary touchscreen interaction and “menu diving”. And opening the scale picker and searching for the checked scale is difficult in a jam situation.

Still no good? You can see the selected scale with a checkmark on the list. Would you like to see the selected scale's name on the top of the screen?
This will be a big update (gonna apply this to 15+ bud apps) and wanna make sure its solid.

Edit: BrainBud is already updated, please let me know about your new bud experience!

We probably “cross edited” our posts. I would suggest to just let the picker scroll to the selected scale when it gets opened. This keeps the overall screen layout clean, and the scale can be easily seen with just one tap.

BTW: I just noticed that adding a favourite scale in Kebarp makes it appear in BrainBud. That’s great that this works in both ways.

    It'll work budiversally 😭

  • Looking great so far. Really love these updates. The favorite options for the scales is very convenient, and a welcome change.

  • Can anyone confirm if the rate app button shows the rating popup? It sholud pop after a second or two.

Weird behaviour here: The “Rate App” button does not work in the standalone version. In the plug-in it starts the standalone version, even when it was not running before.

It does not work if you have already rate the app as I understand from the Apple documentation.

Very odd. I have already rated the app, so that’s true. But Apple could at least show a message “You have already rated this app…”. And I can still go into the app store and amend or even change my rating / review.

  • The new version is live! Adds new "repeat count" and "random order" options to pattern chaining.

  • Check out the new 20min SoundForMore @sfm tutorial & giveaway!

  • A couple tips for using Kebarp

  • I'm working on a new AUv3 keyboard utility for Kebarp. It will be included in Kebarp for free with the next update. If you don't want to use a hardware keyboard, AUM keyboard or a sequencer, you'll find this very handy. The host sync function will send the notes only when the host's transport is playing. You can lock the keyboard in a key/scale/brainbud. It can also work with other apps too since it's a regular MIDI AU. And the name is Keboard!

  • edited May 2024

The app is already super fun and useful! I like the fluidity for changing the arpeggio or the different parameters. @cem_olcay

The only think that is a bit less convenient is when you want to change the scale. The menu is not as intuitive as the others (other parameters can be accessed by going up and down, but it's not possible for scales, and I understand that it might be more complicated to implement). I'd like also to see what scale is in use without having to open the menu. And maybe, retrigger and pattern chaining could be accessible from the main window if you find a place for that.

But overall, it already a very nice app!

Whatever happened to "Midi Interrupter" (I'm kidding -- on the other hand it would be useful. PM me if you wish)?

Congrats on the modular usefulness of all the BUD apps

Oh yes dude, I did think about it and even came up with the app name, app icon and functionality/architecture. Then I got distracted with the other apps, like I always do lol.

Thanks for reminding me, I might revisit the project and let you know about it 👍
Keboard (the post above) and Auto Fills' manual trigger is in the works. After their updates, I'm available I guess (if I won't came up with a quirky and fun idea) lol

    proof: MIDI Switch

  • Nice! Having a keyboard available right from the app with a scale selection built in will be very helpful. I really like that comment from Cem about getting distracted by other apps, which I take to mean developing other apps. While Cem's getting distracted creating and updating apps, I'm out there getting distracted by YouTube, Discord, Facebook and all that stuff, lol.

  • @cem_olcay I look forward to the eventual results of your labor and creativity

  • The new version with the new AUv3 app - Keboard is live!

    Hi Cem.

    Great app

The rate in all your apps is wrong though.

    Opinions ?

    Its goes 1/16. 1/16D, 16/T.

But theres no point using the rate knob and via midi because its the wrong order.

    It goes, speed ( 1/16 )
Then slow down (1/16D ) Then speed up (1/16T )

    Its should b 1/16D. 1/16. 1/16T.

  • The new update is on the way! It adds the new shift parameter and the new internal synth.

    • You can shift all of the notes up or down in the scale all at once with the shift knob by giving them an offset.
    • Double tap to shift knob to reset it back to zero.
    • Shift parameter also exposed as AU parameter.
    • The standalone app has an optional internal synth.
    • You can enable/disable it on the settings menu.
    • You can play Kebarp by pressing the play button on the top left without an external MIDI input when the internal synth is active.

A compromise that doesn’t eat up screen estate could be to just let the scale picker automatically scroll to the selected scale when opened.

I hate lists of scales. I want a keyboard icon that allows me to create my own scale and modify it in performance in an improvisational manner. Sometimes I only want two or three or four notes out of the scale. Sometimes I want an accidental. These are my favorite scale interfaces.

I'm going to release a new beta build with more 'experimental' sequencer rates:

    • 1/6
    • 1/10
    • 1/12
    • 1/18
    • 1/21
    • 1/24
And their dotted and triplet variations.

Depending on its success, I'll add it to the other sequencers as well. I'll need your feedback once the beta is published.

Also, let me know if you have any other interesting rate suggestions

Nice! This gave me an idea to use the polyrhythm feature (a hidden gem) of 4Pockets Digistix 2 to simulate what might happen with an unusual and uneven trigger rate feeding into Keparb. I threw this together in a few minutes, so you can see how easy it is to get started on something with Kebarp and a couple apps.

The MIDI instance of DSX2 is driving Kebarp, which is sending notes to the Korg Lisbon gadget, Brainbud is controlling the scale and key, and there's another instance of DSX providing a backbeat, and then just a couple of real basic effects added. It took me longer to figure out how to get Visual Synth to do something decent than all the other stuff combined!

It should be very interesting to see how the new rates affect this setup as well as typical rhythmic input to Kebarp.

Massive plus one on this. I can't understand few apps implement this. It's so obviously useful.

  • I’m testing the latest update and the shift function works through the settings path but when mapped to an input CC that “shift” value changes but the output notes do NOT shift.

I’m eager to map the shifts on multiple instances and control them all from one knob:

One KNOB to rule them (KEBARPs) all.

I understand what you are saying. It is possible to create custom scales with ScaleBud 2 and use them through the buds. But the scale builder is interval based, not “let me choose the notes from the keyboard” like you are referring. It might be a nice little utility plugin, let me think about it!

Good to know… I’m looking for something to experiment with and Kebarp is a lot of fun. It’s
similar to FuncBud bud without the math. You get to draw the sequence.

Thank you for your continuing evolution of all of your apps! They are really my most used, go-to sequencers, etc. The whole suite of them are like components of an interactive composition machine.

Not a rate suggestion, but would it be very difficult with Kebarp to have the playhead reverse and ping-pong? It could get into some interesting territory.
