Loving it! @cem_olcay, but I just noticed that I can't go beyond 4 patterns. The + sign gets covered or doesn't show. I tried it several times in case it was a momentary glitch but it seems stuck there.

Just drag the number of the last pattern to the left and that will solve this

    Really?!

  • Love how nicely the ui rotates between landscape and portrait modes, even on iPhone. Fantastic new app Cem!

Once you know about it, it seems understandable. In all the years I've used your apps I've never run into this before so it just didn't occur to me. I tried pushing number 4 out of the way but it didn't move for me at first. Now it's no problem.
Hey - really enjoying the evolution of your concepts!

I personally noticed it immediately, because I knew there must be a way. But the fact that the op didn't notice it means that, indeed, it is clearly not very obvious! Adding a line about it to the manual might be a good idea 👍

  • Two quick question before I inevitably buy this…

Can the step length on an individual note be extended to more than one step at a time? I know you can delete notes, correct? but I was wondering about extending one note over multiple steps. You can probably somewhat achieve that by playing a round with step amounts, speed, etc… I also know it’s not necessarily the point of this app but I do think it would be very cool.

    This one is for @cem_olcay
Maybe it’s me, but is it possible to make the root note displayed as a 0, or maybe simply say “root”…? I think it would be a better annd easier when moving around.

The reason I say this cause I’m not sure if the “+2” for example represents the next semitone or next note in the scale? If one is the root, what does the 2 play? If in fact it’s the next semitone it might be more logical to have the root as zero, that way each number displays the amount of semitones away. Maybe I’m misunderstanding this, but for some reason the numbering system threw me off a bit. Since it starts at one, one (semitone) up is a 2, and 2 (semitones) up is a 3. I don’t know… lol.

  • I agree about point 1 Poppa. Unfortunately it is currently not possible to tie notes and Cem does not plan to add that.

As for point 2, the number after the plus symbol just shows how many semitones that interval is above the root. Calling the root '1' is the usual convention in music theory. Eg a Major triad is written as 1, 3, 5. So leaving that root / tonic marked as 1 rather than zero is appropriate.

I do wish that the UI actually showed note names rather than just semitone increases, that would be super useful imo.

Thanks @Gavinski That’s true, so right on.

Good to know. I do think it would be a sweet, if you’re listening buddy, and it would add many more possibilities. Not only for the note length in writing the arp, but also when triggering synths, the midi duration can change the outcome of patches. So it would be cool on a few levels. That said I know there’s a gate and I can get creative regardless.

I was also thinking that about note names, or the option to change from numbers to notes would be cool, and definitely helpful for me. Regardless I still think it’s another useful and effective Cem app. Cheers bruv.

  • Hope you guys are enjoying the app! It’s nice see it on the top 5 lists in the US, EU and Japan 😱
BTW would be great if you rate the app, just by pressing the “rate app” button at the bottom of the settings menu 🙏

Enjoying this, nice work. It would be great if there was a way to set to a root note along with scale, so sequences don't get out of tune. I used scalebud to solve this, but would nice natively.

Also, pattern chaining would be great for all buds, and if there was a way to specify how many times to repeat a pattern. PatternBud works here as well too but native options are nice to have sometimes.

Glad you enjoying the app. The root note (and the root octave) is the note you are playing on your MIDI keyboard. If you don’t need to change the key of the scale, then just don’t play any other note. Latch the note and just focus on the grid because it’s always has the notes you need. That’s the quickest way possible to work because you don’t need to worry about the MIDI keyboard anymore :)

Pattern chaining makes sense in this app. I’ll consider adding it to my other (and future) apps as well.

BTW it still doesn't have any ratings on the app store, please consider leaving a rate/review 🙏

Thanks @cem_olcay. For the root note, I'm pairing Kebarp with another sequencer rather than playing notes by hand, so in that case, notes go out of scale depending on how notes are transposed in Kebarp. I think in StepPolyArp, it can transpose incoming notes to a defined scale, so I was thinking of similar approach here.

For latch, do you mean, enable Retrigger? I may have missed if there was another latch option.

Thanks for considering adding pattern chaining to other apps.

    You got it for reviews!

  • From the couple of example vids I've seen so far, I'm not see a probability on the steps. Is that planned?

FYI when I clicked on the button for ratings it doesn’t seem to work. Doesn’t take me to the App Store.

Just hold a note on a hardware/software keyboard or send a single note from a sequencer. I’m using AUM keyboard’s latch.

I don’t have plans for generative features for this app. Gate and velocity varieties are the only randomization features. ArpBud or MelodyBud would be a better option for generative sequencing.

It should open the standalone app (like the tutorial button does) and show an app rating popup. Anybody else have this issue?

Same here. Clicking "Rate App" does nothing. I tested it in standalone mode and in AUM. In AUM it just opens a copy of Keparp standalone.

  • @cem_olcay Just a quick story about your app and how the fluid note-input can bring a smile to someones's face.

My girlfriend is someone who gets very anxious and perfectionistic about trying to make music (she's learning guitar), and often the technical piece of actually fretting notes and picking them get in the way of her being able to do something creative. As an acoustic instrumentalist primarily, I totally get it -- you need a certain facility with an instrument before you can make it "speak." I wanted her to experience what it's like to make music free from those barriers.

Yesterday, I set up some chords (i v VI VII), bassline, and beat, then sent root whole notes following the chord changes to Kebarp (turned off retrigger so the sequence would run fully) using Melodybud with notes on max gate. I sent the Kebarp notes to Rozeta Scaler so any notes would be in key/scale, and just told her to draw contours of notes, high, low, medium, to see what sounds she liked.

Before I knew it, she was going between ascending scales, alternating between octaves on every note, experimenting with notes and just MAKING MUSIC. She loved it.

I have Steppolyarp, which is a great tool for programming complex polyphonic sequences with different note lengths. It's great for what it does, but I see Kebarp as much more of a performance tool. The grid, with root note lanes highlighted, makes it fantastic for quickly drawing in notes as you're performing...this grid gives you a frame of reference to quickly draw in contours in ways that normal step sequencers lack. I've been setting this up on a separate iPAD as a bluetooth midi controller -- I'll have my iOS synths, beats, and hardware all going, and will make quick swipes to Kebarp as I'm playing. There are other step sequencers that allow for this quick drawing (namely yours), but the grid of Kebarp combined with the fluid note-input makes this a really special performance tool.

Thanks again for your thoughtful approach to sequencing and UI!

  • I just tested Ableton 12 midi tools and fall in love with idea of drawing notes in Shape generator. So Kebarb seems as essential now, considering how easier and more fun to draw notes with nands instead of mouse. Congrats for release, Cem! <3
PS. Forgive me if it’s was already asked but can Kebarb skip notes for make sequences/arps less buisy?

Yes! Tap (or double tap? Can't remember) to remove a note and create a rest

Hey, it would help the developer if you updated the original post with the link now it is released: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/kebarp-auv3-midi-arpeggiator/id6479562640 👍

  • Hey everyone, I'm back after a week long break
The new update will be live soon, it's a big one!

I updated the scale picker. It will show the current scale, the search bar's case sensitivity fixed and you can now add favorite scales! The new favorite section will show the favorite scales, and it will work across the bud apps universe (gonna update them throughout the week starting with BrainBud).

The "rate app" link is also fixed. It wasn't working on iOS 17+ apparently, the new version will fix it.

Also I updated the control strip's sizing. The pattern section has the priority now, and it will grow as you add more patterns (like all the other buds) until it hit the control strip's borders.

I'll let you now when the update is live, looking forward for your feedbacks!

Hi @cem_olcay, hope you had a good holiday. The update just came through. I love the idea with the shared favourite scales. I would still prefer the selected scale being visible in the UI. From the live players perspective you want to avoid any unnecessary touchscreen interaction and “menu diving”. And opening the scale picker and searching for the checked scale is difficult in a jam situation.
A compromise that doesn’t eat up screen estate could be to just let the scale picker automatically scroll to the selected scale when opened.

Still no good? You can see the selected scale with a checkmark on the list. Would you like to see the selected scale's name on the top of the screen?
This will be a big update (gonna apply this to 15+ bud apps) and wanna make sure its solid.

Edit: BrainBud is already updated, please let me know about your new bud experience!

We probably “cross edited” our posts. I would suggest to just let the picker scroll to the selected scale when it gets opened. This keeps the overall screen layout clean, and the scale can be easily seen with just one tap.
