will it be possible to change the color scheme to blue (like in patterning 2)

The new color scheme situation is way better!

  • @benkamen Could we get Probability as a default feature (under layers). I use it a lot for variation and skipping that extra step of pressing the + for every drum and occasion would be, well, convenient.😁 No biggie, just a (lazy) thought.

  • In the description on the first page here it mentions

FILL PATTERNS add a new layer of performance dynamics. With the simple press of a button, users can switch to an alternate "fill" version of their pattern, perfect for adding dramatic flair or transitioning between sections of a song.

Does this mean that if the aforementioned simple press of a button occurs, the app ‘fills’ by furnishing an alternate version of the existing pattern, without the user having to tediously simulate the ‘drum kit being thrown down the stairs’ hard work of making a fill themselves and storing it in an alternate fill version?

Or is there lots of hard work and tedium involved by having to actually make the alternate fill version themselves and the app just looks for a simple press of a button and swaps to the alternate fill version that the user has had to actually make themselves at some point?

That’s what I wanna know - is there “smart” generation

  • all this discussion convinced me to pre-order now, excited to play with it when it is released

  • the way FILL works is not generative.

When you first press the FILL button, it will copy the pattern as it is to the FILL pattern. You can then edit the FILL version of the pattern as you see fit for the "fill." That can mean changing the steps, drum kit, changing the loop lengths, etc. etc.

I hear the requests for generative stuff! It's been on my mind for a long time. I even have code somewhere for something like that, but I don't put things into the app until I feel like I've figured out a way to do it that I like. I'm sure at some point I'll wake up in the middle of the night and know how I want to do it. But that night probably won't be before the initial app launch date.

  • Is there/will there be a way to rotate all 8 sounds/circles at once? I haven't been able to find that in Patterning 2...

And will there be MIDI export?

    Pre-ordered anyway!

    re: Parametric Swing.

I am very excited about the swing feature!! I could be wrong, but I don’t think it has been done before. (Please let me know!)

Very excited to make a video about this, but here’s the idea :

Normally swing in a drum machine is about taking the time-span of an 8th note and moving the middle of that (16th note) away from the center point, usually later in time.

In Patterning 3, you can change that span, or BOUNDS, to be any value up to 16 measures, moving all of the notes inside that bounds away from the center point.

In addition, you can choose whether the time/space inside that span is linear, or curved.

I think this feature is really really fun, and I’m in love with this feature of all the new features the most.

    Thanks...looking forward to the video..

  • Is midi export an option?
That’s a question I am also interested in
    Oh yeah
Good luck , hope ya get rich when the app gets released

  • I feel like I’ve purchased patterning so many times lol for iPad and iPhone…. Was hoping patterning 2 would just be iap for auv3 😝

    @benkamen

hey - there’s not a way to rotate them all together, per se…. but you can set the “offset steps” or “offset ticks” and then apply to all and it will be applied to all of the steps.

the MIDI export is still via Ableton export only. Thanks for reminding me that it should be on my list.

  • Will become available before May 24th in some form, maybe a pre-relase or beta? I'm currently searching for a new sequencer and don't really want to buy into something else and invest my time there if this is going to be the endgame of drum sequencers.. worth the wait huh?

I only know Patterning from being a lurker of the iPad ecosystem for a long time but never have used it myself.

  • Now that I’ve pre-ordered it the wait is going to seem really long, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

  • MIDI export is my number one wish, I don't use Ablelton.

    +1

  • A not too bad workaround is to hook up Midi Tape Recorder, record the output, then export midi from there. Unfortunately MTR isn't free any more. But it's still worth having for situations like this.

    I did something really DUMB,

Well, I think you’re a genius. Patterning is up there with all the iconic iOS music apps like Fuge Machine, Borderlands, Thumbjam, etc.

    A brilliant vision and execution.

  • Here's some info about swing :

  • i like that

That is wild stuff. Kudos for the idea. I look for ward to experimenting with it.

That said, I would still like a simpler control per note. Assume a four bar pattern. I want to be able to adjust where each note hits--precisely on the beat, or some degree before the beat, or some degree after the beat. Individually adjustable for every note in the bar.

there is that also. it's called nudge in the app. you can do it manually in a layer or write it in when recording a beat. you can also turn nudge off using quantize.

Beautiful, tnx mucho for the info. We may be talking about a different approach though. I was thinking in terms of a template for each beat in a bar, not editing each specific note. I did not articulate that though.

I'm thinking in terms of a swung clock, not a swung drum pattern.

  • Go ahead and release it now! I’m ready

I wish I was ready!! Haha

  • So far the preorder link implies that it will be allowed run on Apple Vision Pro…is it intended to stay that way ?
