@benkamen : I just pre-ordered. I’m a Patterning noob in that I never learned patterning 2. Should I study some old tutorials or is there a lot that is no longer applicable ? I think I might as well wait until after the 24th is my guess .

the basics are the same…. but i’ll make videos about the new features over the next month+.

  • Patterning 1 got me hooked on making music on the iPad. Patterning 2 was even better.
Preordered and I am so looking forward to it.

Ouch. This is the first time I find myself lusting for an iPad just to have a particular app. Cause I’m all about 4Pockets Euclidean and Poly 2. I’ll have to figure out a way to block this thread from myself.

This ones not an AU but still a very good drum machine for the iPhone

Good looking out. Thanks you. Been Playing tonight. Very intuitive. Maybe cause I have experience with other circular apps, but even those, I find patterning to be more intuitive.

@benkamen , any chance you’ll treat pattering 3 the same way you did it with patterning 2 for iPhone? Even if not AU? I’m also curious in which way pattering 2 for iphone is stripped down compared to P2 for iPad.

  • Just made an account to ask this question: does Patterning 3 support stereo file/sample playback?! I can't find it anywhere... This is one of the biggest drawbacks of Patterning 2 for me...

Patterning 3 introduces a revolutionary approach to musical timing that we call PARAMETRIC SWING. This innovative feature allows for the creation of beats with a unique, dynamic feel - from the slightly off-kilter to wildly erratic, drunken beats. Parametric Swing breathes new life into your rhythms, offering a fresh take on groove and timing.

I couldn’t be more excited about this. Can’t wait to see how it’s implemented.

I can't see anywhere where it can be activated...
Hopefully, a video will show up soon..

  • This looks great. I’ve never used the patterning apps before.

Does this do midi export? If it’s not on iPhone I would need a way to get the midi into something else.

  • Does it have (smart) randomization for grooves and pattern generation? (Like playbeat or Octachron?)

  • I don’t know…..

No one is using Poly2? Because for me, replace all other drum sequencers and I don’t see the need of Patterning3 after use to play with Poly2.

IMHO, Poly2 paradigm >>> Patterning paradigm

Is Copy/Paste of individual Pages one of the “workflow improvements” ?
@benkamen ,or NDA released beta testers

hey @retronewb. that is something that I've worked on some. it's not in the app as it currently stands, but I'm still plugging away until the release date and beyond.

    not Mac compatible, sorry!

Will the iPad version also be blocked on visionOS App Store ?

  • Patterning2 is far the most professional and fastest drum programmmer on ios. I have preordered the 3rd versionand waiting dor the pre release.

  • Same here! First app I’ve ever preordered! :-)

Maybe you could help. I have been using Poly 2 and 4 pockets Euclidean. I haven’t purchased the Poly 2 IAP because I the notes don’t appear to snap to a grid. I’m not referring to the individual circles/rings, but each circle itself. It seems like the note can lay anywhere.
My interest are with polyrhythms, which 4Pockets can do as well as Euclidean, but it’s not as immediate as patterning or poly2.
But after messing with patterning 2 yesterday, it sends its only polymetric. I did see patterning 3 advertise polyrhythms, tho for me I can’t get it anyway on iPhone.
As far as Poly2 is concerned, I have no idea what it’s doing. I can see how it can be liberating for people wanting to get off the grid, or for people who actually understand rhythm (I don’t fully).

@Blipsford_Baubie Patterning -on pattern page , change each track from “standard” to “divide” with small arrow & set each track to your required number of steps - they will each complete within one cycle therefore being a polyrythm I believe.

  • Hmm @RetroNewb, I’m not seeing this anywhere. Maybe you’re on iPad? From the app description, Patterning for iPhone is a stripped down version of patterning 2.

  • @Blipsford_Baubie ah, sorry , didn’t realise iphone functionality was so reduced .
on ipad there is a standard/divide option on pattern page .

    Does it support multi out?

    Yes it does, in AUv3.

    Thanks Crafty
Pre ordered, Patterning has always been fantastic to work with.

  • Another arrow in the coffin of “I only use laptop for serious production”.

  • Does the discount on pre-orders apply in Australia? This is unclear because when I (in Australia) click to pre-order, I’m notified it will cost $29.99, not $19.99. But is that adjusted for the USD->AUD exchange rate?

  • So looking forward to the auv3 version of this great drum sequencer. Here’s a little jam from back in the day:

No worries. Took me a while today, but I finally understand how the node placements work for Poly2, also the proximity button for locking to a grid, and the settlings I need to make for the type of polys I like playing with.
It helped with just two nodes and having simple reference beat linked to 4 pockets Euclidean inside Drambo in the background.

Nice @echoopera . That’s some really nice grooving.

Prices are set worldwide based on whatever Apple thinks is the proper exchange rate for USD $19.99 now, then $24.99 from 4/20 til launch and $29.99 thereafter.

  • Ordered for the great user kit selection, and unique programming. No hesitation.

Good question - what is the Randomising scenario - if any?

    Yes.

Price now to April 19 is US$19.99 (AU$30)
April 20 to May 24 launch is US$24.99 (something like AU$40)
Launch price and later is US$29.99 (something like AU$45)

The randomization (and other modulation sources) is on playback parameters (pitch, filter, effects, etc) rather than in pattern generation. though i love that idea I’ve never come up with an elegant way to implement for patterning. maybe some day.

there is also probability for individual steps, though i know that’s not the same thing.

Me too - I love that a lot of the sounds are not the typical drum kits you get in other apps. Definitely very quick to experiment with rhythms and syncopation.

Being able to record those wiggling gestures—Borderlands style—would be a nice feature.
