Ya, MMM is one of those apps like StreamByter where I got it for a specific use case, and I’m sure it can do MANY other things, but it’s mostly over my head at the moment. I’ll get there! Thanks guys
…
So I tried this out. I had no idea I could do this in Aum.
For everyone else using AUM....
So, basically, on Battalion's Mix/FX page, you can choose from the Routing column nine different stereo outputs. That is, pairs of 1&2, 3&4, etc. all the way up to 17&18.
What I didn't understand was how to access them:
Start a new Audio Channel in AUM.
Click Multi-bus Audio Unit Instances. There, you will find an UA Battalion bus. Click it.
Anything you send to that pair (3&4, for example) will come though that channel. So now you can have separate effects on any drum sound you wish, and mix volumes accordingly.
Right now, I'm trying 2 instances of LoFi AF, 1 Needlepoint, and 1 Silo. Super UA Battlestation!
Thank you, ALB!
Happy to help - have fun!
I swear, Gav, you’re the ChatGPT of iPad music making, and I mean that in the best possible way! I had forgotten about those. Thanks for the reminder!
Heavily inspired by J-Dilla's time-shifting techniques as described by Dan Charnas in Dilla Time, by the way. And Mike's research on phase based sequencing: https://github.com/mhetrick/hetrickcv/blob/master/docs/Topics/Phasors.md
Has the fx pre-fader send “issue” been fixed on the release version?
Anyone importing samples able to make folders?
Also, had a three hour session exploring this app more, and had a really cool experience I wanted to share.
I set up a kit in Battalion that had the same sound in all 8 drum parts: a long sample of pops and clicks from records. Set that to randomize start point. Also set up some chokes and some probability.
On Battalion's Mix/FX page, I sent each part to a separate bus. Drum 1 to 3/4, Drum 2 to 5/6, etc.
I then set up AUM so that each Multi-bus Audio Unit Instances from Battalion was present. Then I played with adding effects... That's when the magic happened. Using Unfiltered Audio effects, random effects, deep effects like Turnado and Wow and Effectrix, there was just so much going on I felt like I was endlessly intrigued.
I guess what I'm saying is, utilizing the Multi-bus Audio Unit Instances is freaking amazing. I knew the drums and samples inside Battalion were really tweakable, variable, and deep. I realize now that sending them to different effects will send you into Mad Scientist mode.
Anyway, if this makes no sense to anyone, I wouldn't be surprised. 🤪 Back to the laboratory....
Does anyone know if samples are stored in the auv3 instance?
Sorry another question! Does anyone host this within Logic?
Does it output midi accurately to Logic's timeline? How about writing audio, does Logic's Bounce in Place work?
Keen to buy before intro offer finishes but would have to refund if it can't do the above.
Would love if this could switch between patterns groovebox style, so i could play a multi—pattern live set
That feature is coming apparently, think the devs said it upthread
Are you kidding? The bottom one has got loads of Loopy Pro's built in, I'll take that one
Just picked up Battalion , generally impressed , my feature requests would be ;
ideally the Sampler was just another engine to choose , so that it could be switched out with another synth engine ,
i.e both slots could host any engine .
given this is unlikely to change , could a workaround be that the sample engine could internally sample slot 1 ?,
thus allowing slot 1 to then be changed to another engine .
additionally , could a resynthesis engine(s) be added to the sampler ,
I’m sure UnFiltered Audio would bring some interesting ideas to this .
That‘s awesome, cheers Gav
I use it in logic and bip works perfectly - hadn’t thought about outputting its midi until now but it doesn’t seem to output anything as far as I can tell (could be wrong though).
Yeh, I don't see any midi out, even though it shows an output port in AUM. I don't see any settings anywhere, and the manual only mentions midi input, not output.
Too bad, that sequencer is killer.
Sweet! Thanks for the news @offbrands.
You know you can make a sleek workspace in LP too?! 😉
Military aviation controlled by midi. What could possibly go wrong?
Actually the more I look at that image, it's the lack of cupholders that puts me off.
Can anyone confirm if they patched this by removing iCloud sample support? Or is it still in there?
This is one of those features I look for in sample based apps
iCloud support was only ever partially working in the beta (on my device anyway) - a Battalion sample folder was created in iCloud, but the corresponding iCloud preset folder never appeared for me. It was shortly after that, that UA changed direction and decided to restructure the preset system and maybe iCloud functionality as well.
Ah ok. Do you know if the auv3 stores the samples within its save state?
I wish I’d had more time to get involved with the beta!
