    A style of artwork by Jakob I imagine? It brought some memories from youth seeing that style on the app for sure. Never got up though as I’m petrified of heights nor was I anu amount of artistically creative enough to do so that street style graffiti. I thought it was dope

    I always thought tagging is when a graffiti artists tags their name / logo on a hard to get/cool place.

    I believe a street tag, while also graffiti, is usually a word or a graphic signature.

    The style and mimicking soldering now makes sense, but I still think it could be tweaked a bit more for better readability

    @Edward_Alexander ; @offbrands is correct. A tag is a type of graffiti centered around quick to spray "tags" displaying your name or your crew. Often single color, Not necessarily in hard to reach places, but that certainly helps.

    Ah!!! That makes sense and fits with the app! - I do graphic design work and am often tasked with trying to come up with appropriate logos for various uses. The artistic interface design of music apps in general is also one of the ways I secretly geek out with them. Bram's apps are always nicely designed and I couldn't figure out the logic in the street tag looking style of the logo. I mostly associate street tag art with either hip-hop, rap, or possibly punk. I wasn't sure if modular sounds are typically used any any of those genres.

    However, the soldering blob style decision makes perfect sense now.

    Ahhhhhh - I was in some graphic design communities for a few years before I got into music and your comments on the logo now make more sense to me, you should have said you were a graphic designer from the start 😉

    Modular sounds can be made to create hihats, kick drums, bass drums, synths, etc so it’s definitely possible but I don’t know who’s utilizing this approach more for their sounds. Would be curious to see which producers doing those genres come at it from this approach.

    Yeah if you’ve gotten no patches set up it still makes sound. On the RIGHT* of the app there’s a flowchart that shows the flow uncabled!

    The pdf is really helpful to put to the slide over window if you’re on iPad, I just committed to doing that as I make my first few patches.

    Used to run around with some seriously questionable (but salt of the earth) lads who I still find to be some of the best people, often hilarious, but their risk tolerance far exceeded mine. So I was just going off of the way they used the term colloquially.

    In the city I’m from it always seemed that the overpasses, interstates, sometimes really tall really old buildings those would get tagged by some other kid and I’d have to hear about it for a week or two and convince them to not do that for the love of god don’t plz 😅😂

    Yes. People who deface property with graffiti were called “taggers”. That moniker may have changed, but it’s what they used to call them back in the 90’s I think. Unless I’m mistaken, I think they used to say “bomber” back in the 80’s.

    I feel so bad for my family members who are primarily feeling driven and have to live with me pestering them about the logic behind they do things all the time. It cracks me up how much better I feel if I think I've found out why something is the way it is. 🙄

    No. It's not that kind of thing.

    It's a scripting workshop for making midi processors. You can write scripts in it that do things like alter midi coming through it in custom ways or generate midi, though generative midi would require some pretty advanced coding skill. It has no modules or reusable components of itself, but there are many available scripts that you can chain together as separate instances. I suppose you could think of those as "modules" if you like.

    side note... it's incredible how small you're able to keep these deep and full-function apps that also have decent graphics. I had to do a double-take when I saw how small the file is!

    That's 100% DIY graffiti style. And consider the name - Solder box, implying that it's a DIY build of soldered parts in a box, just like his DIY modular synth.

    Having fun exploring this and appreciate the opinionated design.

    My main feedback would be to mirror others comments ref the patch cables obscuring the patch bay labelling all too easily (even with a small number of cables). Plus, I find the wave folding to be far too tame for my tastes. But, I'm comparing with the likes of Pittsburg Modular here, with both their diminutive (in partnership with Cre8audio) West Pest, and it's bigger and bolder siblings the desktop and keyboard variants of the Taiga. And of course the daddies of them all, the various Buchla/Serge flavours of wave folding/timbre modules.

    In the land of VCV/miRack/Softube Modular, there are plenty of examples of digital wave folding at the more raucous end of the scale, so it would be nice to see Solder Box being a little bolder in this regard.

    Back on the subject of patch cables obscuring the patch labelling, I've always liked having control over the opacity of the cables in combination with a more svelte design.

    Things I really like. The LPF drive circuit is organic, rounded and warm. And the EG easily gets into Make Noise Maths territory, which offers an alternative approach to getting decent plucky/slappy results. I also really like the PulseSequencer, which compares well with the Buchla Easel approach to Pulse Sequencing.

    Re: cable opacity maybe cables could be made transparent when we’re dragging a connection. No idea how much of a burden that would be developing, just a thought

    This was probably the best of the Pittsburgh Modular Taiga videos, (from the ever reliable Loopop, who really understood what the unique architecture was capable of). I think this makes for good inspiration ref Solder Box, as the architecture shares a reasonable amount of commonalities.

    But most of all, it's a show 'n tell ref the great mix of the west/east coast tools, which, at their core, springboard into "outta-space" via the Tiaga's awesome wave folding oscillators.

    Unfortunately the update is still not working on my MacBook Pro, doesn’t open in standalone or as a plugin. Updated, reinstalled, rebooted etc.
