Yes I have run into that problem (deleting a cable and wanting to undo it) a lot. I kind of feel at this point that almost any app should have robust undo and redo, it's a useful feature for all sorts of scenarios. Maybe it's difficult to implement, I don't know
Oh wow! I was going to grab this last night or today... but, given all the requested changes in interface, thinking maybe I'll wait until the dust settles and grab it after a couple updates instead
Yes… what’ll happen is if I try to open a song with it , GarageBand will crash. That’ll keep happening until I open a different song instead . Then if I try to open up the song with Solderbox I’ll get that error
I second that!
This is how I had it implemented initially actually. It didn't work because most of the UI is covered in areas that are interactive. The Hilda-scrolling method relies on "non-interactive background surface" which you can pick up and drag and there simply wasn't enough of that to be useful.
So I'll have to think of something else.
OK, from an initial look the 'flow-diagram' on the right side has no interactive functionality and could be used for scrolling, same goes for the left side?
In Hilda there's more 'active knobs' (frequency, modulation depth, glide, ext etc.) on the left and right side compared to Solderbox where you only have Tune and wave-selector.
So looking strictly at the number of controllers in the UI the left and right margins could easily be used for scrolling?
(No need to have scroll-zones in the middle of the UI like in Hilda, just some way to pan/scroll the UI when it doesn't fit into the current viewport the plug-in gets from the host).
I feel this could be a workable solution where the left & right 'border' is used for pan & scroll?
(The UI could also remain 'lit' all the time).
Cheers!
I think that tapping/sliding on the right side signal flow, to bring into the patch bay, and tapping/sliding on the empty left side of the patch bay, could move to the top? @brambos
This is the way 👍🤘🙌
There's plenty to choose from, Jakob uses one in his video but than one is pretty pricy, I think there are free variants.
I’ve been using the one that comes with Ape Matrix. Worked a treat for monitoring the output during development
@Fear2Stop
It's a strange one. So far I think we've had four reports of it. Most installs seem to be problem-free, but for those where the issue occurs it happens very frequently. And there doesn't seem to be any pattern in terms of device/iOS version etc.
I'm trying some things that may perhaps help fix it. Would you be willing to install a Testflight version to see if the issue goes away for you?
Absolutely…anything I can do to help !
Indeed, judging by some playing about last night this is a nice solution. Always pays to figure out ways to use/misuse stuff in this game.
Awesome, really appreciate it. I will send you a PM when Apple approve the Testflight update
Bram will make the minor changes requested. You're more likely to lose out on intro pricing if you wait.
Has an intro price ever been confirmed?
Not to speak for Bram but I have seen him in the past mention he doesn’t really do that and does sales just on BF. He prices his stuff accordingly.
In my opinion more than fairly too.
I reported the same in Logic Pro and I’d be glad to TestFlight if that would help.
Anyone know how to get the standalone running in background mode? Can’t see any setting for that and nothing is mentioned in the manual
It probably doesn't, by design. Bram's standalone version of recent apps are usually just bare-bones offerings to help smooth the App Store review process. It says right at the top "For MIDI and audio connectivity, load Solderbox as an AUv3 plugin". That's not specifically referring to background audio, but I would expect if it can't be connected to anything that it also wouldn't expect to need to run in background.
Since it is generative, it can be nice to fiddle with it, then check something in the manual or reply to an email or whatever while it does its thing. I think background mode would be useful. No biggie tho.
What puzzles me more tho is this:
When I drag the pulse lfo knob I get a series of regular fast tones until i release my finger. The speed is always the same until I release my finger, the speed does not reflect the starting or interim knob positions. Is this a bug or a feature? I can't see an advantage in it and it sounds strange for live tweaking. I can post a video if necessary.
I have the same. I'm not a fan of that behavior, but I assumed it was intentional or unavoidable. I can see how a free running square LFO would have issues if undergoing rate adjustments on the fly.
I assumed the same, but I don't know why a free running square wafe lfo would have issues being adjusted on the fly. That's something I often do with lfos. Thnx Wim, @brambos any insights?
Don’t seem to have the randomise option available on desktop (Mac Mini M1), but I do appreciate the way MIDI mapping for external controllers has been included. This and Salome work perfectly with my Launchkey Mk4 pots - in fact I can select a much smaller segment of sample in Salome on desktop than on iPad, which is really good for creating instrument presets.
I’ll certainly get it eventually. I have all the rest of his apps. I haven’t seen any mention that this is “intro pricing”. He doesn’t seem to do that game usually. Typically picks a fair price and sticks with it, with a sale or two when the rest of the devs are having sales.
Don’t know how his typical marketing is approached when he’s sharing revenue with a collaborator though.
I’m only holding off because it seems like many here are having trouble learning the interface so far. Lots of requests for changes that @brambos seems receptive to making. I also know he doesn’t tend to make changes based on group outcry, but only when he feels the changes make sense to his fairly focused vision.
That said, if this interface has a significant learning curve AND is in flux… I’d rather wait until the dust settles before I dig in to learn it.
That would be great. I'll DM you! Thanks!
Yes, it's not really avoidable. They're not free-running, they're tempo-synced and synced to each other. Every time you "click" to the next value I need to resync all three of them. Otherwise you'll get weird chaos instead of a melodic pattern
There are not going to be any major changes to the UI, just so people don't get the wrong expectations. So I wouldn't say anything is 'in flux'
Thank @brambos & @jakoB_haQ you for this one. Despite being another impulse buy, I believe this can make some magic in time….. Respectfully, @brambos has been taking my money since I became an iOS user (and I wouldn’t have it any other way)
👍🏿👍🏽👍🏾
Wow, what a journey it has been (not just for me, but the entire mobile music plugin world has come such a long way since 2016!).
