I wouldn’t describe Jim’s apps as smooth, they are rough and useful, directly to the point 🤣
So, is it out yet?
Hopefully the preorder goes up sooner rather than later. Almost a third of the month is gone already.
Jim’s probably taking a holiday to mentally prepare for the deluge of day-zero feature requests we’re going to throw at him when it’s released…
Poison 202 and pure acid work smoothly for me- the sound is Aggro AF, but the UI has been fantastic.
Lol. I wouldn't doubt it one bit. ("Add audio tracks" will be my request. 😂 )
Don’t know anything about software development… But a recent YouTube post, he said, ‘he is working hard on it, and preorders will be up soon’. All the videos I have seen, it looks functional.. But I know it is well worth the wait.. Taking my time to explore GR1 some more.. 😑
I may challenge myself to learn GR-16 for a piece of Ambient. We shall see. 😂
It’s pretty amazing..
Pre orders are due mid jan I read.
6 more days or so then it seems. 🤣
I bet it is! 😃
I recall when I was eyeing and electribe 2 that I saw some videos of people dabbling into ambient
Ooo. Nice. Yes indeed, I will take a peak at GR-16 then.
r beny has made some lovely ambient on the Electribe 2
I'm definitely going to watch this now that I'm inbetween productions. Hopefully this will inspire me!
He’s done some lovely stuff with it, he explains a bit of his process in the comments on some of the videos as well. Can’t remember which ones though, you’ll have to sift through.
The trigger conditions in GR-16 are really nice. The neighbour conditions in particular I imagine would be great for ambient. You can set steps up to fire or not fire based on what the previous step on the current or previous track has just done. It’s a really powerful sequencer, look forward to hearing what you do with it!
Another thumbs up for r beny. He inspired me to have a pop when I owned one. Maybe closer to chillout now I listen back. Forgot about it completely until now, so thanks.
@jwmmakerofmusic Hi Jim, here is a really deep dive into GR16 I made a couple of years ago, but it will give you a good idea of it’s super powers and teach pretty much everything you need to know.
I also have a playlist that covers everything else, hope it inspires you😊

Definitely going to give this a shot! And, yeah, the video you linked above is just lovely! The music is supreme!
Chillout in a sense is a form of Ambient, but it's still really great music to my ears.
Oh sweet! Will check this video out during supper in about a half an hour! 😃 Thanks Doug. Good lookin out mate.
Hopefully pre orders start this weekend
Thanks @jwmmakerofmusic
This might be the first music app purchase for a couple of years for me. Whether it will be enough to draw me away from hardware remains to be seen. I doubt it though.
Hardware can be more fun in many aspects. Eventually I returned to working on iPad though. The "hardware setup" on the go. 😅
It's all in the mix for me. Hardware plus ios stuff. Have a circuit and a beatstep pro for sequencing drambo, and two ipads. Two Roland s1 running their own sequences. Dreadbox typhoon running it's own sequence. My own version of torso T1 on drambo sequencing stuff. All tied with drambo and plenty of midi controllers.
Good stuff. I have incorporated the iPad in a few jams in the past. Just seem to use it for recording and mastering lately.
Not very ambient oriented, which makes the challenge even better
Absolutely! I love a good challenge, that's for sure. 😂 Been participating in Jamuary, so that's been a lot of fun. Easier than Inktober!
Another good challenge could be using Figure for ambient. Never tried that.
I did an experiment with the chiptuney gadgets for ambient-ish sounds though just to contradict a naysayer
Same. Mixing iPad and hardware just makes em both more powerful. I sequence my wasp synth all the time with an older iPad and drambo or something like step poly arp… and digitone running thru aum for effects and compression… the list goes on and on! But iOS audio and MIDI effects are amazing and you can get the entire App Store collection of MIDI effects for less one piece of expensive hard ware probably…
best of both worlds.jpg
That looks so clean. Very nice.
Where is it?
