Tutorial | Iconica Sketch for iPhone and iPad

Tutorial | Tempo and signature track support in Cubasis 3.7
(if the clip does not start at the correct position please scroll to 15:14)

  • Wow! Been waiting for the tempo change feature for such a long time, can’t wait to use it!

Thank you so much 💛 🎶

  • Thank you @LFS and team! That’s maybe the most significant missing feature knocked off the TO-DO list!

  • Although I now use Logic mostly, I do have a soft spot for Cubasis and adding a tempo track is the feature I most wanted in it. It’s always good to have choices and I would hate to see this iOS DAW fall by the wayside, so I will buy the new sound module when I get paid to keep supporting them, as I buy all add ons for it.

Thanks for continued support of this app.

  • That Orchestra app looks really great value as an AuV3!

  • Iconica Sketch is great fun, fantastic sounding instruments and great keyswitch/articulation implementation. Hoping that gets expanded on, would love more instruments and articulations! Great job. :)

  • Increased range of compound Time Signatures, e.g. 12/8, now available up to 64/64!

  • edited December 17

@LFS are you going to make Iconica Sketch feature parallel with desktop? I was assuming it was already unfortunately.
At the moment I think? it's missing a couple features that I was really looking forward to using when reading the manual.

Notably, True Release; and being able to stack articulations. I'm also not finding any indication of True Legato.
All of these are key features of this plugin. Please let us know if these are coming or currently available. <3

  • Great update way to go Cubasis team.

  • edited December 17

Looks like you have to download Iconica Sketch twice if you want it in Cubasis 3 so that 3.6 GB in total ! Thankfully I have the space.

  • edited December 17

Iconica Sketch is very good for it's size. It's a 1.8GB download, but I'm guessing that it's compressed and decompresses to an equivalent size of the desktop version, which is 4.6GB.

The full Iconica was created in partnership with Berlin's Orchestral Tools and comes in at a near whopping 200GB. Most folk agree that Iconica Opus doesn't match up to specialist libraries from Spitfire and Orchestral Tools, but Steinberg did a superb job of picking the best aspects of Iconica Opus to provide a wide palette of articulations that excel, especially across the sections and ensembles in the cut down Sketch version. It compares well with the Spitfire and Orchestral Tools libraries available in Staffpad, but obviously has the added advantage of being an AUv3. For £19.99 it's a veritable bargain as the same library with an identical number of instruments and articulations costs £99 on the desktop.

    Hi @Jumpercollins

When you own both Cubasis and Iconica Sketch, you will have the option to install an additional Cubasis plug-in version of the instrument which integrates better. If you decide against it, you can also use the AUv3 version of Iconica Sketch in Cubasis.

    Hope that helps!

    Best,
    Lars

This could be better news for me than the (of course very welcome) ability to change signature and tempo within a song!

  • this should have happened years ago before I got invested in Logic. Not gonna switch now. too little, too late.

I’m glad I was the bearer of good news to you! I can’t see it mentioned anywhere in the “new features”. It was the first thing I looked for as I’m working on something in 12/8 at the minute.

  • Iconica Sketch sounds right up my street, but the instruments sound like they have reverb added - is there an option to turn this off for a dry sound?

  • Dear moderator, my suggestion would be to create a separate forum category 'Cubasis'.

Is it possible to store Iconica Sketch content to an external drive?
In the app store I saw the size of 19.4 MB (hooray!), but here I found that it is way more (1.8GB?).

    Hi @filo01

There is no option to store the Iconica Sketch content to an external drive.

    +1

    You know what
I usually wouldn’t agree but since Logic got its own (undeserved) category Cubasis Definitely deserves one, as the new reigning champion

    I think that’s a great idea

    Thanks for sharing

  • Holy crap! ☺️ This is an excellent update. I think I'll be using Cubasis a bit more than Nanostudio 2 for my music (which is Electronic/melodic Ambient/Score work).

@LFS If I may make one feature request, it would be to be able to have a dedicated drum module in Cubasis 3 (similar to Slate in Nanostudio 2 if you're able to). For me personally, it'd be easier to have that than utilise an AU plugin for the task.

I think Groove Agent as an IAP - or Groove Agent included and IAP’s for different kits.
