I have waited 7 years for this!!!!! Tempo Change! Time Signature track!
oh wow, not bad at
all
It’s only got around half of the data on the auv3 version though. I think it’s over 3 gig if you use the native version (in Cubasis )
thanks!
Glad to read this, thanks @jwmmakerofmusic
Thanks @dokwok2
You're welcome. Hope Iconica Sketch works like charm in your mobile DAW of choice!
Best,
Lars
Hi @ralis
Now we hope you enjoy the new features!
Best,
Lars
Does Iconica Sketch have any choirs ?
To answer my own question - runs fine on my iPad mini6 in AUM - had 4 going with different instruments, various articulations, very impressed 👍
Also, played with the tempo track automation & time sigs in Cubasis, very impressed with this too! Great job Cubasis team! 👍😻🎹🔊🎸🐬🚀
No, not that I can see, maybe they can add more sounds in the future..
Thank you !
The storage requirements for the app are a limitation for me. I have a 256 GB iPad Pro, and I use a lot of apps, and in the last year, the space requirements for a number of apps that I own has grown rapidly, especially Logic Pro, and I'm now down to about 30 GB free, and I've trimmed all the stuff that I don't need. I really want to get this, but I'm going to have to decide between this and removing some other apps which I still use. So until I get a bigger iPad, which is a long way off, I'm going to continue to watch what people do with it, and see, but it's going to have to be good enough to replace something else that's taking up 2 GB of space.
Yes - I could squeeze it in but I'm planning for the next year, and I want enough space to handle what I might need. If there were an option to store the samples on an external device (ala Pure Synth Platinum, Xinematix, some others), it would be a slam dunk. It really does look and sound quite good.
**Edit: TL;DR
Iconica Sketch looks fantastic, but I don't have enough space on my iPad.
Actually bought the stand alone Iconica in addition the to free version in the Cubasis 3.7 upgrade just because you guys made me happy!!!!
Thanks Lars and team! Really like the update and can’t wait to do some tempo change exploration soon!
What an absolutely fantastic update! Great to see long requested features land in Cubasis 3, plus Iconica Sketch sounds astonishingly good. 👏 👏 👏
Weird. First thing I did when I saw the announcement this morning was to first purchase Iconica Sketch, and then ensure I updated to the latest Cubasis build, but something must have gone wrong with the update, as a check back in the AppStore showed that I still needed to update Cubasis.
Everything's working as it should but I must admit, I don't see the logic in having a less powerful version of Iconica Sketch available as an AUv3 than that you make available in Cubasis. I'm assuming there will be an update coming for Dorico, where Iconica Sketch is a critical and much needed addition. It will be crazy if Cubasis has a better version of Iconica Sketch than Dorico.
If I didn't already own Cubasis, I'd be more than a little miffed in the knowledge that the AUv3 is less powerful when it's not running in a Steinberg host. There's no real excuse for that. Sure, Dorico should have an optimal Orchestration UX with Iconica Sketch, it is a specialist notation application after all, but all iOS DAW owners should be able to access the full bang for their buck.
If I've misunderstood things and the full Iconica Sketch experience is available in all iOS DAWs via the AUv3, then I'm trying to wrap my head around the fact that the user effectively downloads their IS content twice. It's fine for me, I have 1TB of storage on my iPad Pro, but the Cubasis universe has customers with far less firepower and storage capabilities.
Hi @jonmoore
Dorico already includes a special version of Iconica Sketch .
Today we've released our stand alone app version of Iconica Sketch for iPhone, iPad and every AU-compatie DAW. If you own both apps Cubasis and Iconica Sketch for iPhone/iPad you can freely choose to use the AUv3 plug-in version or to install the additional Cubasis plug-in version of the instrument (which just provides smoother integration in Cubasis).
Best,
Lars
Hi @ralis
Very nice, we hope you will also enjoy using Iconica Sketch for iPhone and iPad!
Thanks
Lars
Thank you @TheGarageBandGuide!
No. On the desktop, HALion has a cut-down version of the Olympus Choir library (as well as the full-fat version). If Iconica Sketch is a success, with luck, Steinberg might consider releasing Olympus Choir on iOS too.
@LFS Does Iconica Sketch support MPE?
So I fall back on my comment that your music app customers with less powerful iOS devices, that are often already bursting at the seams with music app content, aren't getting the best experience if they need to download the content twice for an optimal Cubasis UX. You can dress it up as a benefit, but that doesn't wash. Surely it would be better to access the same sound content and only upgrade the missing features that Cubasis needs to provide an optimal experience. Downloading the same sound content twice is, simply put, wasteful.
I was always under the impression that the Iconica Sketch library on the iPad was a cut down version of that included with Dorico Elements and Dorico Pro on the desktop. I barely use the iPad version these days, although I still maintain my subscription for those days when I don't fancy sketching something out in Staffpad. Plus I like supporting Daniel & the team as Dorico is head and shoulders above the competition when it comes to composition, notation and engraving.
Good to know that the full-fat Iconica Sketch library is available in Dorico for iPad. It will make it easier to mix and match sketches I start as a notation project but then want to explore further in an iOS DAW.
Hi @eross
The content download for Iconica Sketch for iPhone and iPad is about 1.8 GB.
Best,
Lars
@LFS ❤️
Iconica Sketch was an insta-buy for me and i did not get disappointed.
It's great!
But the size of under 2 GB worries me a little bit, because on the Website of the VST version it mentions a size of 4.6 GB.
@LFS Is this just compression or is the iOS version a watered down version?
Although i love it as it is, it would make problems switching a project between iPad and Mac if the versions are different.
Really great you all made Iconic Sketch an AUV3 plug in as well as provided compatibility for both the phone and iPad. Well done! Nice to have well recorded bread and butter orchestral sounds in a straight forward package.
I can think of one possible valid reason ("excuse"). AUv3 plugins have a limited amount of memory available to them. Unless Iconica makes really good use of disk streaming, memory limitations can be a serious limiting factor.
On another subject - is it confirmed that installing the content in Cubasis actually takes up more physical space as verified by the overall device storage before and after? The file system in iOS/iPadOS is sophisticated and doesn't normally take up more physical storage for copies of files. This can be misleading because if physical storage is shared between apps, it's reported separately for each app. In other words it can be reported twice in the detail while not actually increasing overall device storage. The only way to know for sure is to note overall storage before and after.
It's my fear that it's a watered down version. I asked earlier and received no response, while most other @s to LFS have been replied to happily.
@Goldiblockz :It seems we get a more deluxe version if we use it inside of Cubasis vs stand alone..
