Hey. Yes sorry, I currently cannot publish my apps in the EU for privacy reasons. An attempt at solving the issue was expensive and failed. I might have another go soon. Sorry for the trouble!
Thanks, @wim. I wasn’t aware that Audiokit’s LE01 Bass 808 was under new ownership. I have a soft spot for that one.
Ironically this is still listed and linked as the app’s forum on their website (https://audiob.us/). So you’d expect them to keep tabs on related posts here…
So far, I have avoided updating VHS synth. I like that one. As far as Audiobus3, as someone else said, farewell old friend. Those were the days.
They made an account here, but so far only one post.
no problem. Good luck for your future attempts!
I'd really like to understand what @Audiobus_support are thinking.
Our's is a small community. If you want feedback on your apps and want to improve it, we are here. Just talk to us. And with more than just one post that points to a meaningless, copy and pasted generic privacy policy.
Obviously you don't understand your customers. If you are trying to understand your customers by sniffing their data, you have chosen the wrong path.
It is not too late. We all make mistakes. You can reverse this very naive policy and get us back to supporting you. Otherwise, so long to any applications you touch.
Their software is meant to be something you can rely on - solid, available as you need it. Be that in a dark basement club with no mobile signal, or maybe stood in a field with your WiFi only device. Not being able to open it without an internet connection is just bonkers.
Couldn't agree with you more. I am so disappointed especially because Audiobus was such an iconic app.
RIP AB. Long Live LoopyPro!
Or maybe they do.
You can only call us customers in the sense that we once gave money to someone else to purchase the software. We're not customers in the sense that we are likely to give them any money now or in the future. We're also a select slice of even that customer base. We don't necessarily represent any proportional fraction of total potential and past customers.
They spent money to acquire something, presumably with the intent to make money or at least recoup their investment from it. They know how many new people are buying the software. They have insight we don't have into how much time and effort it would take to develop any ideas they might have to gain new paying customers. They know how adding tracking has affected new purchases vs. any income they might be able to get from selling that data. They will have data as to whether anyone goes for the subscriptions.
I'm not saying their practices are good. I'm just putting in perspective that we aren't people who are income generating customers from their standpoint. It could be bad PR toward people that read here and haven't purchased, but I'm guessing not enough to affect sales significantly or they'd do things differently.
(I do take strong exception to a lot more than that in this. But think I can also see where they may be coming from.)
I can see your point. However I think there’s something missing. It is very very very hard to make money by making music production mobile apps. It’s a very small niche. Anyone going into business thinking they can make enough money to survive only by writing music production apps will be disappointed.
I believe their entire premise is flawed.
Also, that site is hosted on some extremely slow "Magic Cake e95" website, where you have to sign in to see the page in "Space Mushrooms". 🤔
Very informative, I appreciate the community for bring this to light. I started my IOS music making journey with audiobus in 2022. Used to recommend it to friends curious about my iPad setup as a good starting point. After reading this and doing some research…
I’ve also deleted the 2 apps I had from this developer (thanks Wim) and will be sure to inform people of this practice, as well as to not use audiobus or any app from the same developer.
I can confirm this behavior. It will come for you. Useless to resist.
I haven’t updated the app on my iPhone so it’s still usable without internet, can I use imazing to back that up, or am I too late as the App Store version is the broken/tainted one and that’s the only place you can back up from?
Edit: looks like I’m too late as imazing can only download from App Store, not device🫤
No, but we’re a damn good test bed for this sort of thing.
Even outside the cosy walls of this forum, subscriptions are very unpopular. Apps with trackers are equally reviled. And there’s a lot of complaints from music makers when they find they can’t use their purchased software without logging in online.
Throw all of the above into an app that already has stiff, and more functional competition, and I reckon this forum has got it right. 🏆
I seem to remember that I could copy iThoughts from either a second device or a backup.
But I only did that once and with the test version, so maybe a real iMazing user can comment.
I started to give all of their Apps bad reviews in the App Store.
My only way to fight back.
Otherwise, I deleted AudioBus from all devices - only on one old iPad, I installed all of their Apps that I own so that I can see updates and repeat giving bad ratings and comments!
even connected to web my Audiobus 3 opens and a spinning circle endlessly spins
i really relied on AB3 to set AUM to follow hardware MIDI Clock
what a shame
As Michael wrote, this new owner has "new ideas for the App".
True.
Is there a working alternative?
Looks like Michael has been "morally ripped off". Sucks, but still better than getting ripped off financially I guess 🤔
https://apps.apple.com/app/link-to-midi/id1066216595
This maybe? Edit: seems maybe that is not a suitable full replacement
Your aBus / xequence mashup idea sounding better by the minute😅
Interesting, thanks for posting. Would be interested to hear what AUMers are using for this..?
Loopy pro trial ran out before I could fully test and don’t fancy paying £30 on a punt (or that much generally just for something that syncs).
I don't really know if it is a replacement. It might be for some uses. It's not a full replacement. If you search the forum for 'midi link sync' you'll find a lot of discussion about that app, which is a full functionality replacement , but seems no longer to be available.
Michael should tell us the ball park of the price so we could think about gathering money...
I imagine that he can’t sell it again though…
Don't understand.
You would need to know how much they payed to be able to think about the amount required to buy it back - they sure want to add some to the buy price.
And for a kickstarter project you also need a goal.
Ahh you mean buy it from the new owners?
