    True.

Looks like Michael has been "morally ripped off". Sucks, but still better than getting ripped off financially I guess 🤔

Your aBus / xequence mashup idea sounding better by the minute😅

Michael should tell us the ball park of the price so we could think about gathering money...

I imagine that he can’t sell it again though…

    Don't understand.

You would need to know how much they payed to be able to think about the amount required to buy it back - they sure want to add some to the buy price.

And for a kickstarter project you also need a goal.

Ahh you mean buy it from the new owners?

    Of course,
Who else could sell it 😉

And then either give it back to @Michael for free to just let the last version stay in the App Store - the last version from him, of course!
No changes needed, but yes, required updates for new OS versions would be great.

Or, check with @SevenSystems if he was serious about creating more from this.

I really appreciate your enthusiasm! I still think both Audiobus (and the Audiobus API) and Xequence are great, but I really have to get busy making some serious money in the mid-term! 😄

So, we are going to pay for an app we have already bought to give it to a developer who doesn't want it?

  • @oldsynthguy said:
Throw all of the above into an app that already has stiff, and more functional competition, and I reckon this forum has got it right. 🏆

I agree. I think they'll have almost zero new sales going forward. But it's possible they know that too but decided they might be able milk enough of the installed base long enough to recoup their investment and maybe make a profit. I doubt it, but there is a huge installed base to draw from and there's a sucker born every minute ya' know.

That sounds unethical. Besides, you would ultimately need to talk to the owner anyway to know if they would even be interested and what their price would be.

There would need to be some developer entity to own the app and list it in the App Store. If not an existing developer, then some entity created for that purpose (and willing to maintain the $99/year developer account). I doubt Michael would want to take it on when the reason he sold it was to get it off his hands, not because he needed the money (I believe).

I'm not poo-pooing the idea at all. It would be great if something like that could work out. I wouldn't participate as I no longer need Audiobus, but at least those who do would be in better shape than they are now.

    Yes, exactly!

    It's an idea.
And without knowing the original price, we cannot even start to think about it.

We cannot guess an offer - either it will be too low or probably way too high.

I would love to get a working AudioBus App and would be willing to pay ... depending on the price, of course.

  • @busaudio said:

Sure, it's a fine idea. I'm not saying it isn't.

What I'm saying is you should contact the new owner about potential pricing.

It's a private business transaction. It wouldn't be ethical for the seller to divulge details. It wouldn't matter anyway. The owner may think they can get far more out of the app by keeping it than they paid for it. Or, they might realize that they made a mistake and be ready to cut their losses. No one can know without talking to them.

Interesting plan. Good luck with it.

Their software is meant to be something you can rely on - solid, available as you need it. Be that in a dark basement club with no mobile signal, or maybe stood in a field with your WiFi only device. Not being able to open it without an internet connection is just bonkers.

A little tip: Start Audiobus with WiFi switched on and then switch it off. Works for me. However, I haven't updated to V3.6 and I won't, I don't rely on this app in the slightest.

  • Dear Audiobus Users,

First and foremost, we want to thank you for being a part of the Audiobus community and for sharing your feedback with us. Your passion and dedication to our app have been the driving force behind our commitment to continually improving your experience.

Recently, we introduced some changes to Audiobus that caused frustration and disappointment among many of you. We deeply regret the impact these changes had on your trust in us.

We have heard your concerns loud and clear, and we want to take this opportunity to outline the steps we've taken to address them in our latest release, version 3.7:

    • Third-party trackers have been completely removed to prioritize your privacy
    • A new one-time purchase option has been added, alongside the subscription options, giving you more flexibility in how you choose to access premium features
    • Offline functionality has been restored, allowing you to use Audiobus without an internet connection

We are committed to making things right and to earning back your trust.
Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we encourage you to continue sharing your thoughts as we move forward.
We are dedicated to ensuring that Audiobus remains the powerful and reliable tool you've come to love.

    Sincerely,
    The Audiobus Team

    Wow - that's great.

    Thank you.

  • Well done...

  • The thing is, we can't know for sure that those trackers have been removed, and I'm unwilling to trust anyone who would add third-party trackers in the first place.

  • @Audiobus_support Thank you for listening.

The changes really had me upset for a few days, i rely so much on AB. I could have lived with the „always online“ element (albeit unhappily) but the app didn‘t even load for me to be able to use it at all and i thought that was it

After updating now, the hanging load screen is gone and i can at least use it again for which i am grateful

Edit: seems buggier than before, needed to restart several times which makes me unlikely to rely on it as i did before (fundamental element of live sets). Naja, so be it

  • Too late.

  • Bravo! Thanks for listening @Audiobus_support.

  • Is anyone able to test if this all has actually been implemented? Seem to remember there was a report producible in iPhone settings to see what apps have been contacting other apps…maybe?

Check the App Store listing. It will say exactly what kinds of trackers there are.

[edit] I just did. It indicates the 3rd party trackers are still there.

    @Audiobus_support??

I think only the paid version removes the tracking.

I wonder what happens if you already "owned" the app. I also wonder how the heck to verify any of that. I'm somewhat tempted to put on my geek hat and look at my router traffic, but I'm not using Audiobus any more so I'm not motivated enough.

Oh go on - you might bust open an "AudioBusGate" scandal. How about it Deckard - we need the old Blade Runner. Just one more time.

  • Having just compared the App Store listing for Audiobus (which I believe has had a tweak to tracking) and VHS Synth (which I’m assuming hasn’t) - only the latter has linked Usage Data, yet both have linked Identifiers. No banana?

  • I was hoping VHS hadn't been hit but they've put the same tracking on everything, so that's that deleted as well. I appreciate that they're backtracking on some changes but my trust is shot now.

  • @Audiobus_support im currently considering updating Audiobus to the new version. What is the one time purchase IAP for existing users? Thank you in advance for your responsiveness to customer concerns and for your reply.

  • Well, so much for regaining trust etc. the only one of their.

Apps I’d kept installed was Retro Piano, and it’s just had an update which I installed in the hopes that that would be an end to tracking, though I note the App Store still lists the trackers.

Except now it has most of it locked in the AUv3, including my own user presets. Presumably they want me to subscribe to get full access back - I tried a Restore Purchases and it said there was nothing to restore. There seems no way to buy their subscription, which I wouldn’t anyway, so it’s now gone, too.

Such a pity, it was a great app, and these people are just profiteering creeps.

Yeah this is absolutely unbelievable … I’ve been using this app for years and suddenly I can’t use it and can’t even restore purchase - a purchase I literally already made years ago .. Unreal @Audiobus_support … what are y’all even doing ??

  • Disgraceful :'( almost ransomware now.

  • Looks like the poor developer had his fire extinguisher filled with kerosene 😂
