Some oscillator types have two "edit" parameters. A wavetable, for example, has wave position and "warp". These qualify as targets for modulation by envelope or lfo. But I can;t figure out how to direct either of those to the "E2" destination. They only target E1.

I think only E1 can be a target. Just like knob 1 of the IFX is the only targetable parameter for IFX

I thought I’d seen a setting to switch modulation target to E2 but I think I was confused with the switch on Sampler to change which of the 4 parameters are assigned to the 2 Edit knobs

  • I have a few questions that I didn’t find answered in the forum.

Is it possible to have a multi-output AUv3?
Is it possible to chain songs/patterns or associate them with a program change when using it live?
Does anyone know if an AUv3 version is planned?

But - @Telstar5, there is full tempo and multiple time signature track support in Cubasis now. Cubasis has GR-2 beat in that department.

Cubasis 3 is the ultimate production tool on iOS imho. Has pretty much everything a music creator could ever want (including stability), whether someone's a hobbyist or a professional. I could rave on about Cubasis, but this is not the thread for that.

Agreed except for possibly LP4.. One could make a case for that also. It’s really featured packed .

I'm being really thick here, but what is LP4?

this looks like bug .. tap on au parameter name should show automation

  • Thanks @dendy, good to know, I’ll report it to Jim.

You can mention this is happening just with some plugins .. i have same problem for example with Baby Audio BA-1 synth ... other plugins i tried were working OK (dagger, zeeon, hilda)

Ah, you’re right! Only tried OB-xD (the ‘old’ one), but Twin 3 works perfectly.

That doesn’t work for me with OB-xD 1, but all other AUv3’s work properly so far.

2 more ways to select a track:

    • Double tap a clip in the clips view
    • Tap the track nr in the top row of the clip editor
  • Here is my next GR2 video.
This one is all about MIDI FX, I use Scaler 2 as an example but you can apply the same technique used in the video to any MIDI FX app.
With this method, you can build up complete songs very quickly.

Do you find that the performance options in Scaler 2 have timing issues when used with GR 2? By this, I mean how you can select various musical styles to be played within the selected chords. For me, the same problem exists as with Logic Pro on iPad, where a 48k sample rate means the performance doesn't line up properly. The MIDI notes for the chords are recording with the correct timing, it's the actual 'playing' that has wrong timing when you're using the performance options.

The solution in Logic is to select 44.1khz for your project, but in GR2 the sample rate is locked to your model of iPad even though it looks like you should be able to change it. Jim says that Logic is only 'virtually' changing this rate, so it's like 44.1khz in a 48khz wrapper, but it does still fix the issue. No such ability in GR2, unfortunately!

  • Thanks again @wim @jwmmakerofmusic , here’s hoping for an update remedy for LP4. @Samu , you’re probably right about Jim reading this

Fingers crossed. The Quantec room simulator is amazing. I just can't justify that sub for buggy software (at least on iPad).

That's why I was on the fence at first. I'm having some fun learning and discovering things with this app, but haven't made anything of actual value with it yet. Today, I plan to make something like Plastikman since Pure Acid is nicely integrated within GR-II. :)

Considering what it does it’s worth it. A full blown 16 track groovebox that hosts plug ins.

    The hobby of.. making music?

  • @Michael_R_Grant No, I haven't had any issues like that so far.
As you can see from the video I'm using four or five instances of Scaler playing different things and everything worked as expected.

    Gr 2 one week in.

So far I really like it, I’ve managed to figure most stuff out that I’ve tried to do. Contrary to what I’ve been reading here from some I’ve actually found it quite intuitive. Perhaps that’s down to experience. I am an Oldie.

    Some personal thoughts -

I would like to be able to re-order the parts.
I want to be able to move part 6 to part 1, so I can order the performance after creation, sometimes the creation order isn’t the same as the performance order.
I would like to be able to re-order the scenes, again the order they are created isn’t always the order you want them in a performance.

MIDI out. GR2 isn’t my performance method of choice, I Ideally I’d like to transfer what I do in GR 2 to my currently preferred sequencers and sound sources, having a MIDI out layer similar to Taipei in Gadget would be awesome for me.

Clip integration with midi controllers, I am running on an iPad 2020, it handles the cpu OK but something I have noticed with this device is that it sometimes triggers presses when in fact I am only hovering, it annoys the hell out of me, this is not exclusive to GR 2. I really want to be able to clip launch with a controller.

    Secondary thoughts

My usual request for MIDI Clock In/Out, not a biggie, as an AUM user I can at least do Clock out with that.

I get the requests for Reverb as an insert. Reasons to not have it for me are
Reverb is probably the most CPU intensive FX and limits the use on older devices, me on an IPad 2020 would not cope with individual reverbs on tracks. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for those on the latest and most powerful devices though, but
For a busy mix, having lots of different reverbs is really not a good idea. There is a reason reverb and chorus are usually on sends. For specific sound design purpose I can see its need.

Awesome work from Jim as usual, and as a fellow Prodigy listener I appreciate the work and inspiration. Having fun exploring, not sure as yet if it will remain in my personal arsenal for production, but will certainly be in the play area.

You can move the tracks in the mixer view. Just hold down on the little icon above the track name and move it.

    Nice, Thank you

No, there is no routing between tracks

Is it possible to chain songs/patterns or associate them with a program change when using it live?

Not AFAIK, this would make sense for a groovebox, I think GR-16 supports this

Does anyone know if an AUv3 version is planned?

Not known, but I think if it happens it will be in a couple years like GR-16

I found that I can do this if I use the selection tool in the upper right, to the left of the settings icon

This I agree with. Although GR-II only hosts AUv3 in send fx. But, from what I've explored so far with GR-II, the IFX are top notch and all one really needs (especially to load a second project quickly.

Hopefully Jim will add reverb to IFX soon (I saw above he's considering it), but it's fine for those to be send fx since it's how I usually use reverbs.

Still trying to wrap my brain around automation, so hopefully @sfm and/or @thesoundtestroom will create that tutorial next. 🙏 Their tutorials have demystified a lot of things, and I'm grateful.

  • Made a video about GR II inside Loopy Pro and a midi keyboard and how I overcame some of the challenges of IAA.
