I use a second drum rack with only a synth in the kick place as a phantom sidechain kick, you can leave it muted and copy the whole drum pattern there as it will only play the kick

    Nice trick. 👍🏼

    Gr 2 one week in.

So far I really like it, I’ve managed to figure most stuff out that I’ve tried to do. Contrary to what I’ve been reading here from some I’ve actually found it quite intuitive. Perhaps that’s down to experience. I am an Oldie.

    Some personal thoughts -

I would like to be able to re-order the parts.
I want to be able to move part 6 to part 1, so I can order the performance after creation, sometimes the creation order isn’t the same as the performance order.
I would like to be able to re-order the scenes, again the order they are created isn’t always the order you want them in a performance.

MIDI out. GR2 isn’t my performance method of choice, I Ideally I’d like to transfer what I do in GR 2 to my currently preferred sequencers and sound sources, having a MIDI out layer similar to Taipei in Gadget would be awesome for me.

Clip integration with midi controllers, I am running on an iPad 2020, it handles the cpu OK but something I have noticed with this device is that it sometimes triggers presses when in fact I am only hovering, it annoys the hell out of me, this is not exclusive to GR 2. I really want to be able to clip launch with a controller.

    Secondary thoughts

My usual request for MIDI Clock In/Out, not a biggie, as an AUM user I can at least do Clock out with that.

I get the requests for Reverb as an insert. Reasons to not have it for me are
Reverb is probably the most CPU intensive FX and limits the use on older devices, me on an IPad 2020 would not cope with individual reverbs on tracks. That doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be available for those on the latest and most powerful devices though, but
For a busy mix, having lots of different reverbs is really not a good idea. There is a reason reverb and chorus are usually on sends. For specific sound design purpose I can see its need.

Awesome work from Jim as usual, and as a fellow Prodigy listener I appreciate the work and inspiration. Having fun exploring, not sure as yet if it will remain in my personal arsenal for production, but will certainly be in the play area.

You can move the tracks in the mixer view. Just hold down on the little icon above the track name and move it.

I swear I tried this and it didn't work, GREAT NEWS!

yep. I don't want to overwhelm him with emails to deal with, but I thought that was a quick enough suggestion to make.

  • Is it possible to change the time signature? Can patterns be set to variable length, and if so is there a way to set that globally, or is it per pattern?

The loop point can be anything you want on each clip, so they will loop at different points.

No idea about time signatures im still trying to figure 4/4 out

  • I wonder as ai becomes more and more accessible if @jimpavloff might at some point in the future be able to work stem seperation directly into the app? I’m guessing within two years.

Time signature is in the Pattern settings.
What would be the use case for that as a global setting?

Maybe the confusion is over what a pattern is. Pattern in GR-2 is basically a song. Clips are what one might associate with the word "pattern" in other apps.

Time signature is in the Pattern settings.
How would that make sense as a global setting?

Am I to understand you can mix time signatures in pattern settings?!

No. Pattern = song. Only one time signature in a pattern. Changing it changes all the clips, but doesn't change their length. So, if you have a two bar clip in a 4/4 pattern, and you change the pattern to 3/4, that pattern will be two bars + two beats after the change. You can adjust the clip length to 2 measures if you like though.

Effectively you can have multiple time signatures (even all at once) by adjusting clip lengths. The bar numbers in the timeline could get confusing of course.

Ahh! Thanks mate. That clears it up. Okay, so pattern in this case means "song" or "project", gotcha. 👍

Even more confusing when you figure that a pattern can have a timeline "song". Or not. 😎

  • @jwmmakerofmusic :So only one time signature per pattern but we can string different patterns of different lengths together right? Like in Cubasis? Aka mixing time signatures

😂 This will take some getting used to for sure. But I'm willing to learn GR-II inside and out. Will be the ultimate production tool for me for beat-based music and, hell, even Ambient if I so choose.

But - @Telstar5, there is full tempo and multiple time signature track support in Cubasis now. Cubasis has GR-2 beat in that department.

Cubasis 3 is the ultimate production tool on iOS imho. Has pretty much everything a music creator could ever want (including stability), whether someone's a hobbyist or a professional. I could rave on about Cubasis, but this is not the thread for that.

Agreed except for possibly LP4.. One could make a case for that also. It’s really featured packed .

@jimpavloff : It would be great to be able to stick in a bar of 3/4 time inside of a 4/4 time song like we can now in Cubasis or LP4.

I agree. LP4i would be the best tool on iOS in many ways and top Cubasis, except it's unstable af. When I produced a couple tracks in it, it crashed Poison-202 once. Then it would forget plugin parameters while in the midst of a session, including that of its own limiter. Ymmv of course, but that's just my personal experience.

You can using clip length. It's just not reflected in the numbering of the bars in the timeline.

Jim Pavloff is unlikely to see that post - last active on this forum November 2021. He provides a contact email on his web site. Probably inundated with emails right now though. 😉

    That's cool.

The Synth Drums rack preset is a real eye opener for what the synth can do for percussion sounds.

Holy crap, this is really massive thing. Had no idea i can tap on "sample" and switch it to synth. This is almost "game changer" detail for me. Thanks for head up !!!
