The easiest way would be to import them into a MIDI AUv3 that support file import then MIDI print them.

quick and easy, just reserve one track for that function and then move the patterns wherever you like

  • I'm not seeing choke groups anywhere. Am I just overlooking something?

I assumed at first it was "mute groups" but they're something different.

  • Is there a way to stop a clip before its cycle is up, like in loopy pro with another press

Hi @wim, in the sample window there's a little gear icon tap on that I think the "EXCL Group" maybe functioning as the choke group?

That sounds like it should be it but I must be blind today. I'm not seeing it? I see the gar icon, but no EXCL Group.

  • Anyone manage to get Iconica Sketch to work in the app, only one I have had a problem with so far, no sound

  • edited February 7

@wim its only available if you use a sampler inside a drum rack. I just discovered this a few seconds ago

  • Ahh! Thanks @hacked_to_pieces. That's workable.

the ability to transpose notes in scale.. we wait..

we have that and it's awesome, dragging chord shapes on the piano roll is super useful

Nice.. I guess it is simple to have ‘any’ sequence fit any key/scale.. all we need now is easy midi import..

    Thanks..

Edit.. this PianoRoll may be the ultimate midi editing playground… Pretty nice..

  • What are you all doing with midi files?

Im trying to use 2 midi controllers at the same time and I can't figure it out how to make it work ! Things is I can only select one midi device at a time.
( A Faderfox Mx12 with a Cme Xkey ) Anyone using more than one midi controller?

Yeah I had the same issue.

The workaround I've found is I use CME H4Midi (they've also just come out with a smaller one). Using their iOS app you can route multiple Midi controllers to 1 virtual output.

I highly recommend the H4Midi, you can connect an 8 port usb hub and then merge all the devices into a single port if you want. It has great routing and midi mapping functionality. Well worth the money.

    Wouldn’t AUM achieve the same?

  • Finally bit the bullet. I’m impressed. Sounds immense! UX is great.

I can see there is clip and part automation, but can’t work out how to do clip automation….. any pointers?

  • edited February 8

Can you record without quantization? I can’t seem to find the option.

EDIT. Found it. It’s hidden in the general settings

  • @cokomairena said:

I suck at programming drum tracks. Midi files are great to start with a pattern that I can adapt (or not) to my track

I think I read earlier in the thread that clip automation is recorded with song mode off, and part automation with song mode on, but I could be mistaken. (I'm more of a "part automation" guy, but that's just my personal preference.)

  • @jwmmakerofmusic Got it. Must have missed that one. Thanks.

Ofc mate. :) I swear this is probably the only megathread I've followed religiously, or at least that of which I can remember. 😂 I've never used a groovebox app like this which has a DJ-between-patterns (projects) capability. GR-II is super simple on the surface but can go quite deep. Not as deep as some may prefer, but regardless GR-II is a "complete package" app. Only external AUv3 I'd bother using is Grand Finale 2 on the master effects chain. Literally that's it.

  • It's interesting that you can put AUV3 effects on the FX1 and FX2 busses, and even Master out, but not on layer insert busses or the MFX buss. Not evil, just interesting. Unless I've missed something. I wonder if that's a specific design choice or a limitation?

  • @jwmmakerofmusic being an “overcomplicator”, I have learnt that apps with infinite depth are not for me. I need to keep my hobbies simple and fun.

  • Hi everyone, here is my next tutorial for GR2, this is the most requested one.
It's all about the automation in GR2, I show how to do it in both Clips and Song Mode.

I'm very much the same way when it comes to my personal projects. I tend to be an overthinker myself, and oftentimes I need those limitations to work within.

Cubasis 3 is my go-to for client work. I often let my client(s) tell me exactly what they want, and I go off of that as my "limitations". If they give me a vague prompt that could mean anything , then I may get stuck mentally and overthink things. 😅

Cubasis 3 is also my main goto for creating Ambient. Works a treat for that genre quite well, where I "notate" out the instruments, a flowchart, and any extra notes I may need. Then I freeze tracks to audio and edit further from there.

When I used to work in NS2/Gadget, I'd first sketch out bass, chords, and melody on the sequencer using just a simple piano sound. That is what worked for me personally.

All that said, GR-II's workflow is limited in some ways, which is what I need. Limited, but not limiting. It works great for the genre of Minimal Techno I want to produce. :)

    me too.

Also Amen Break Generator can't be tried by notes either.

Yes, sure it would. But I want to see how I can work in standalone only.

Let’s talk about part arpeggiator and groove settings!

The arpeggiator comes with 42 patterns!!! It’s almost like a mini sequencer. The combination of chords, arpeggiator, and groove settings on a bass part essentially gives you something similar to iBassist. The 42 arp patterns are more than enough for me. The cherry on top would be adding customized arp patterns in some future release.

The more I play the more impressive this app gets. Having seen Jim’s other apps, GR-II is just gonna get better and better. Love it.
