Has anyone figured out if this thing supports background audio?

Don't think so, it went quiet when I swapped apps.

  • Kind of hit a dead end here however, Kobamoto did the right thing in contacting the developer more likely than not because the answers were not being found here that was pretty obvious.

Ok. It seems like Oliver wanted to get it out ASAP, before Christmas, and didn't include some things he anticipated would be in the first time around (e.g. AB), so maybe this is another thing that got left out. I'm not worried -- I'm sure he'll fix it/update it.

Contacting the developer is definitely a great idea but I wouldn't knock discussing bugs on this forum. Often by comparing experiences with other users gets things diagnosed.

I think he's been pretty honest about the app needing some finishing touches, so I'm just pleased to get my hands on it early.

This app has a massive amount if potential and the developers very responsive so I'm sure it'll all get fixed. I've had more than £2.99's worth of fun already - anything else is a bonus!

/ Agreed in most cases but no one here had any answers was my point.

  • I gather we are in total agreement then

  • no word yet, will report back when I hear something

  • Yes I hate waiting, I am still waiting to hear back from Primal Audio about a fix for the FM4 crashes.

  • in the mean time I'm just sampling out the sequences cause if not I'll lose them.

I think the core element in the design is in the playability, and this app has it in spades

Nailed it. For all of its automation recording and song mode, this app is meant to be played.

I looooooove that it started on the iPhone. It's 100% usable on the small screen. iPad version will be great and it's own beast but it always seems like apps scale up more successfully than they scale down.

  • you know what I haven't tried it on my iPhone yet, gotta do that

  • I bought this based on the comments here and does not disappoint!

@kobamoto I didn't,the notice any changes in the sound when reloading presets I'd saved, ios 8.1...

  • what about after you use 'randomize everything' and then copy that pattern to another slot?

  • @kobamoto - I have experienced this bug as well. It doesn't happen every time, but it does happen often. It also changes the original to the ef'd-up copy. I'm working on sorting it out. I haven't found a proper manual for the app. I'd really like to see it.

omg thank goodness I'm not the only one, yeah it changes the original too it's freakin bonkers lol, I can repeat it anytime I want, but here's a tip that might work, before you do the randomize everything, copy the original to another slot, then do the randomize everything on the copy and your original might stay like it's supposed to. if that works let me know.

I think i have experienced what you're talking about but it's not consistent, sometimes it changes and sometimes it doesn't. The main issue for me is certain tracks not being randomized at all no matter how many times i randomize everything and i seem to get the same pattern or sound every few hits.

Some weirdness going on but it's a great drumsynth, reminds me a lot of microtonic but with deeper synthesis.

    Any response from the dev?

  • I get what you're getting as well, as far as the pattern not changing sometimes after randomizing.

I pointed the dev towards this thread in my message to him as well so they should be able to check out what everyone is saying.

  • @kobamoto said:

I want to make sure it's not user error before I bother the dev directly.

here again are the exact steps that I use and can recreate the issue every single time.

    1. start the app

2.don't even create a pattern, don't load any new sounds, only load a blank empty song

    1. on pattern one, press randomize everything

    2. listen to patt one

    3. copy patt one to patt two and it should sound different

DO NOT STOP YOUR SEQUENCE WHILE COPYING let it continue to play, do the copy and you will hear the difference immediately.

sometimes both patt will sound different. the earlier instructions I gave also reproduce this consistantly, I find that it's something connected to the randomize everything feature, as the other randomize choices don't do it all the time.

it also happens when saving a song, but only after you use randomize everything, then go directly to song save, name song, and after that it should sound different.

I'm on iPad 3 7.1.2 I'd prefer to get confirmations before troubling the dev of this great app.

Hey Kobamoto, you're absolutely right, it's a bug! I was not aware of that. I will fix that for the next update. Thank you.

And, as I already said. Audiobus support is on it's way too, but due to holidays of the iTunes crew between dec 22 till dec 28, the update will take some time.

    Best, Oliver

  • @magnum38 Bugs happen, glad you're squashing.

  • Good to see you here Oliver!

  • ok thanks, got a work around to hold me over til then :)

  • @kobomato - you can cancel the appointment with the psychologist now, you're not crazy ;-) @GSM909 - thanks for the manual link (from Bennorland).

@magnum38 - there is another quirk/bug: follow the first three steps of Kobomato's procedure above (create a random pattern while seq is running) then go to pattern mode and tap the first (only) pattern square. It will do another randomization. I know there isn't any real reason you would need to tap the first pattern at this time, but it still seems odd that it would change the pattern.

Love the app and can't wait for the iPad update with bug fixes!

  • Randomise everything, save it, then it changes. What is saved is very different to what I wanted to save.

  • Was initially a bit nonplussed but having spent a bit more time on it & discovering the master fx section within the 'file' menu tab, can see that this one has a lot of potential for some crazy patterns. Looking forward to the iPad version.

I trust this version becomes universal as TriqTraq did.

iphone upscale and that interface should be enough to put me off, but this looks too bonkers to ignore. (no offense intended to the developer).

I understand that it maybe due to the compromises of iphone compatibility, but I would really like to see the 16 sequencer steps laid out in a continuous row rather than the current 4X4 layout. (more FL Studio, less Maschine if you like.)
If possible, this could allow the user to view/sequence several channels simultaneously too. I hear from this thread that a native landscape ipad version is upcoming, so I imagine these sort of things are being considered.

I do have a query for the dev. though, is the upcoming I-pad version a separate product?

    Quote from www.mouseonmars.com:

The first release will be iPhone optimized only. Later there will be a version optimized for iPad also, it will be landscape instead of portrait mode, and will have many optimizations and additional features. iPhone owners will get the iPad version for a reduced price (< = 50%).

Due to different screen resolutions between different devices (iPhone5, iPhone4s, iPad) screens may look different on different devices (like missing mute buttons, etc.). Most of this will be fixed with the coming iPad version.

    Release

    • iPhone version: out!
    • iPad version: Beginning of 2015

    http://www.mouseonmars.com/mominstruments/elasticdrums/

This seems to imply that owning the iphone version qualifies you for a 50%+ discount on the eventual ipad version. (or is this a misunderstanding/outdated info?)

    Cheers

I don't know if that's possible. I still remember the release of Easybeats 3 with similar promises (bought Easybeats 2, and you'lle get a discount on v3), and ended in nothing. Knowing that information, I'd wait for the iPad version, since I don't have any iPhone. I don't even know if it would be possible change one license to another.

Despite the discount, despite the lower (or reasonable intro price), I'm still waiting (or wishing, or hoping) a solution like TriqTraq or Figure.

I don't try offense the dev. From here, my absolut ignorance about how much work will have to invest to convert the iPhone version to the iPad.

BTW, great news if it comes in January.
