@Proppa I think it's certainly worth it, but is it safe? Well, for me, yes. Apart from the iFunbox debacle which you indicate is not a concern for your flow....
I read that ios 8.4 is in the works, focusing on new music player updates and streaming services....just maybe that means they'll look at the rest of ios music functionality too for more stability?
We live in hope....
@Proppa - I'm leaning towards what @JohnnyGoodyear said. For me it's been the iFunbox debacle, but I think that is here to stay with no more access to files outside of iTunes File sharing. And 8 has brought better (more possibilities to move data between apps (once the apps update and take advantage of it or add some kind of file management ). Once I change my habit and investigate how to get data moved around, it'll be 8.x, at least for my iPad Air, the iPad 3 is another story.
Big Thanks @JohnnyGoodyear and @Ganthofer -- I finally Hit The Button and the update was painless. Haven't tested everything but so far nothing seems to have gotten mangled and like a breath of fresh air I can finally be past Months of procrastinating this update and watch in delight as a LONG list of Apps update.
what's the other story for the ipad 3?
My sister's ipad3 updated to iOS 8.3 is slower than ever.
My concern is exactly
@Sebastian i'm stil getting no apps showing in AB, i thought have something to do with not being online but it seems to occur randomly as it i reloaded AB and all the apps were there. Most peculiar! :-/
I worked around it by just loading the app outside AB first but it doesn't restore them when i reload the preset.
oh well boo hoo I'll stay for a while longer on 7.2
Guys, I think I am going to D the downgrade to 8.2. I really do need access to Z3TA and Audioshare and others...so wish me luck...hope all goes smoothly.
For a company who's motto is "it just works" they appear to have lost their way or profit is the main incentive. Cmon Apple the creative process doesn't need this screwing up people's precious time! You would be suing the arse of someone if it was the other way round!
I am extremely tempted to go 8 with my air 1 because the apps I use seem to work better on my mini retina 8.3 but since there's no way back I'm also extremely uncertain of the move.
@supadom My guess is you will be pleased apart from the cursing.
It's a tricky one, some ios 8.3 days are sunny and great, others are cloudy and dark but I think it's more fair-weather than otherwise.
I tried copytrans and it does allow access to Auria folder and audioshare. But I can't access Z3TA.
Still considering going back to 8.2 today.
I'm going to make a video of me jamming on mini 8. I just finished one and it was all grooving no cursing. I really think it is a question of what app configuration one uses. Also testing and retesting definitely helps. I'm (for instance) using latest versions of all apps: turnado, Maggie, samplr, moonrizer (tm), beta loopy HD, but also an old version of audiobus which for some reason works better for me. Samplr sync to loopy is close to perfect. In fact Maggie's delay, moonrizer and turnado all sync to loopy like a charm which is well cool. I'm still at testing stage but I played live at a party last month and all held well apart from Magellan getting disconnected from the chain..
The other option would be to flog my air one 7.1.2 here for some top dough and keep playing my recently bargainly purchased mini retina 32gb.
As for other apps gadget, isem, animoog, xynthesizer, anytune (for sampling) and audio share have been performing sweet. The only crackles I got was while using impc pro, Imini and iprophet within tabletop but I only got it out out of boredom.
@Supadom I have 8.3 running on a mini retina. The only glitches I get is when switching apps. Often the music from whatever app (eg gadget) pauses momentarily when switching to a new app. You get this ever?
I get that on switches with my Mini (the lowest end one).
With iOS 9 coming this year with its rumored emphasis on stability and optimization, are some people just going to wait on that version?
Soooo, interesting findings.
I just run gadget with quite a simple beat London, Dublin and Phoenix. Then I started loopy and that's the only time when gadget stopped. I started loopy manually in sync with gadget and swiped between them several times without any issue.
Now, while they were running I thought I'd try this with audiobus so I started audiobus and plugged both in. To my surprise the sound quality went down. Nothing major but I got some very slight distortion. Not sure if it has anything to do with measurement mode in audiobus. I will test it on my air one 7.1.2 and see if I get the same issue. There's no stop in gadget playback though.
No noticeable deterioration of sound on air 1. Also both apps stay in sync even with all the switching which is nice.
Downgraded to IOS 8.2 guys! Worked out really smoothly following the instructions here:
http://www.idigitaltimes.com/downgrade-ios-83-and-restore-82-how-remove-problem-update-your-iphone-ipad-or-ipod-433654
It went thru quite smoothly, even my folders were left intact. I did notice that Auria, Cubasis, Z3TA were left intact! Even my custom folders in Z3TA were exactly as they were on 8.3. Will do some testing, but from the looks of it, the install went really nice. I followed the steps in the link above to the T.
Will hook up to ifunbox later.
Checked with iFunbox classic and I'm back in business!!!
Checked my Z3TA folders and was able to access all my install folders, presets and all. Wow it feels so good to be able to access my stuff. I'm stating put this time on 8.2 until all the wrinkles get ironed out.
I'm really liking 8.2!
i get that constantly (same device)
if i only use functions from other apps available in the ab sidebar its ok, so i guess this also has to do with switching the graphic (how very multitasking &_&)
Thanks @lala.
Yep, never used to happen in iOS7. Definitely an 8 thing (audio no longer given its own protected thread or something?).
Annoying, but not a show stopper when producing music. But I can imagine it being a real problem for performing live.
I've been experiencing some weird shit. At the moment I have 3 iPads to test stuff on. Air 1 7.1.2 my GF's mini retina (8.3) and just bought a brand new second hand mini retina 32gb which I restored from air one's back up.
My GF's mini is the most stable of the 3 and runs 8.3. I thought It was just a question of same device same IOS to get the stability but not so. I thought of using the new ipad as my flagship music device but with air one's back up it glitches etc. I then set it up as a new ipad and only downloaded my music apps but problems persisted. I'm now restoring it from my GF's pad. And will test it tomorrow. If it doesn't perform as well as the other mini then it most definitely means there's some variations in hardware even between two mini's. Mind you one is 16 and the other 32.
until today - I've had no desire to update from ios 7.0.2 on my ipad4 - but the release of Steel Guitar is calling me! I want it and would need to upgrade to 8.3. Seems most people aren't having many major issues - any other users care to comment about how things are running? Worth it or not? Do you wish you were still on 7?
My new iPad came with 8.1 installed, and I wasn't massively impressed as I'd been used to 7.2. 8.3 is tons better though - I still have more crashes and freezes than 7.2, but overall I'm very happy with it.
I think what you mean is that your iPad which is couple of gens younger compensates for iOS 8 shortcomings.
I'm still on iOS 7 and Steel Guitar runs no problem, got the update and the IAPs.
