  • it's 7.1 required - I'm on 7.0.2

    I think you're probably right!

  • @Halftone, think I'll be upgrading but not to 8.3, but 8.2, from reading the posts 8.3 still has some bugs that do random things, plus 8.2 still allows iFunbox access.

  • i don't think you can choose to upgrade to 8.2 - isn't Apple only offering 8.3? (you can downgrade to 8.2 if you have upgraded though)

  • 8.3 was a massive improvement on 8.2 for me, but I'm not an iFunbox user.

I'm still on iOS 7 and Steel Guitar runs no problem, got the update and the IAPs.

    Ditto

    Both on phone and ipad

  • with 8.3 i still can use my old esi midi-interface. with ios 8.x i could´t.

  • Yep Apple are still signing 8.2, check here http://api.ineal.me/tss/status, upgrading is just like downgrading, now the things with 8.3 aside from iFunbox support that make me hesitant to upgrade to 8.3 are the posts about Laplace, FM4 quirky behaviour and Gadget with background switching cutting out sound all seem to be suffering random bugs, so even though it seems 8.3 improves a lot of things, it also seems to have introduced other bugs.

  • Does Nanosync work with 8.3, or am I f---ed? I usually use iFunBox to load my drum sample files to Nanostudio. Can anybody with Nanostudio on 8.3 test this?

If nothing else, is there a sample-based drum machine app with both the ability to import via DropBox AND has a good file folder system?

  • So far I'm really happy with 8.2 especially since I can access with iFunbox. I use Gadget but my main Synth Z3TA works great so that to me is important.
So far no crashes, no freeze ups so like I said, if it ain't broke, no fixing.

My feelings exactly, just wish Apple could fix things instead of giving us more 'stuff' that usually needs fixing...

I can confirm that nanosync works for me on iOS 8.3 iPad mini 2.

However I couldn't get into the Eden patch bank folders to move stuff around. They don't seem to be covered by nanosync. I also had some songs that were missing samples - so I had to bring in those zipped .nsp files again from my air1 to restore the songs again.

But basic import and export via nanosync is still working.

  • While working on a tune in Auria, I notice that some of my tracks had flatlined, so I tried to resurrect a backup of the project I was working on. Auria then crashed and would not even start up and I could not get to my files since in 8.3 Apple does not allow it. I even tried getting it thru iTunes file sharing on my Mac and that was a nogo. So I decided to downgrade to 8.2 so I could use ifunbox or something like that. Using the link in an earlier post above, I followed its instruction and got back to 8.2. Then I was able to retrieve my files safely to the Mac using "imazing", including the healthy backup of the file in question. After the files were safely stored on the computer I went back to the iPad and under 8.2 Auria was working fine. I still do not know what happened but after the crash, Auria would not open at all, I would get the startup screen then back to my iPad home screen. In the process of changing back to 8.2, I also lost a bunch of apps that I had purchased, both musical and productivity stuff. I have since reloaded most of them but I'm still getting trouble from a few of them. I'm staying at 8.2 until I figure out what happened and this file sharing issue gets resolved. I was just about ready to call it a day, with this ipad music production and go back to logic on the Mac.

  • Yeah my feelings exactly. 8.2 is still being signed so who knows till when. I personally do need the access to my files so it was a no brainer. I admit, i was nervous about downgrading but it was a super smooth process by following the steps .

  • The only issue I have with 8.3 is using apps via Audiobus. When trying to record into Auria via an effect they're forever dropping out, so I have to keep reloading them. I've got used to it now so know how to fix it, disruptive to the old creative flow though.

  • @Johow, you have my sympathy, this is yet another example of how ill thought out 8.3 is, your data is trapped, that Swiss knife iFunBox comes to the rescue but not for 8.3 onwards..... Apple - it just wOorKzzzz - nooooo.

I hadn't really worried about it until it appeared that my work/files were gone. But after all this it was definitely great to get in there and see everything. It just makes sense to have access to your stuff to clean out the old unused and organize and protect the new and needed. I can understand apple wanting to protect the intellectual property of artists and software writers but I should have free access to my own intelectual product when produced by the apps I purchase and use. There should be a way to differentiate the data type or owner.

Downgrading to 8.2 has still left me with some issues as I lost a few purchased apps and have not been able to reload all of them. The couple that I haven't gotten are apple apps that I don't really care about (iMovie & iTunes U) but I have a couple of stuck icons for them that do nothing but take up screen space. Like they are trying to load but can't. Not sure what to do about that but I'm confident I'll sort it out eventually.

  • The other day I was jamming along with my usual cpu/ram heavy audiobus preset at 256frames and got a glitch a few minutes into the session. I found it quite surprising so I swept up to see what apps are open and I found about 10 (no kidding!) kiddy apps running in the background which I forgot to kill as I normally do.

This makes me think that the air1/mini 2 hardware is more than capable of running complex setups and software that is the bottleneck. This is really strange because I'm always at around 97+ % ram when I have my music apps running.

  • Apple stopped signing 8.2 so no more downgrading.

  • 8・2 is where I'm staying. What a disaster. It seems the only reason to upgrade these days is if you want everything to break so you can pull your hair out.
For the same reason I'm still on 10.6.8 on my mac.

  • Just updated my air 1 from 7.1.2 to 8.3. Feels good to be on the same page with all my iPads.

  • @supadom - I'd be interested in any difference you notice on your Air 1 running 8.3 versus 7.1.2. I still haven't made the jump with my Air 1.

  • Cool @Ganthofer I'll give it a proper spin tomorrow.

  • It's cool!
    Can't wait next animoog.

  • Apple customer here since 1980. I am very disappointed in Apple. they really have gone down hill. its a level of arrogance that initially was annoying but we had respect for it. but its turned into a sort of corprorate psycholigical disorder which is now affecting the usability of their products in the most significant way - not working. I came to this thread because I no longer trust Apple to provide quality products (including software) so upgrading my iPad Air mini 2 from 8.1 to 8.3 required some online research. As a musician with a ton of iPad music apps, it was even more important as the midi and audio aspects of iOS feel like they are the least mature. And Apple breaks things a lot now. So I am going to stick to 8.1. everything is working. the potential speed increase is tempting but weighing the PITA Ratings (tm) of dealing with potentially less CPU capacity vs the PITA Rating (tm) of dealing all the _________ you guys/gals have been dealing with, 8.1 wins for now.

Apple won't smarten up if we keep buying their products. yes I am suggesting not buying them because in this capitalistic world, where this arbitrary concept of money has way more priority than life (!!), they wont do anything but cut more corners because they don't have to. dont upgrade as often and consider alternatives. consider these things to be tools and not come kind of cache fashion object. I used to be proud of being an Apple customer but now I feel really stupid.

Thanks to all of you for posting. you've likely saved me a lot of headache. Plus I would have also lost all my Alchemy libraries.

  • Installed the new iFunbox version for mac now. It's an instacrash fest on 10.8.5 So,bye bye iFunbox.... :(

  • Can Somebody please tell me if its worth to upgrade from 7.1.2 to ios 8.3. ( ipad air 1).I can only find bad stories on the internet and i was hoping ios 8.3 fixed a lot of problems.I don't care about ifunbox not working.I wanna know if music apps work or not.
Does apps like Samplr,Drumjam,Thumbjam,Turnado,Flux fx,Tonestack,Idensity ,Ifretless,Borderlands,Sunrizer,Magellan,Cubasis etc. work ok with audiobus and ios 8.3 ?

And how does audiobus perform compared to your old ios 7 setup ?
Your answer could help a lot of people. Thanks.

  • @Porto if you don't have any issues on 7.1 why upgrading?

  • Fuq you iOS8.3, not letting me backup app presets, projects etc anymore (unless it's under the oh so useful iTunes file sharing folder)..
