  • Installed Copytrans beta in XP system. When i launch the program, it shows all my apps that are installed, and it says if I want to backit up. Does anyone know, how to add or remove files like iFunbox?

    iFunbox news : https://www.facebook.com/ifunbox.dev

    I quote:
"iFunbox v2.95 is just released [ http://i-funbox.com ]. Partially fixed the sandbox access restriction applied by the new iOS 8.3. All apps with "iTunes File Sharing" enabled (e.g. iFileExpress, or VLC player) can be opened for sandbox browsing just like before. For the rest, jailbreak is required to enable the sandbox access."

The new version released now is for Windows. I have no time now to test it.

  • I was able to open iFunbox classic now and i am able to see the folder and all, but not the documents at all. For some reason the new 2.95 version doesnt run, but at least the classic version i had installed runs. Some progress I guess. :)

PHᐃNTᐃSM could you tell me how you find/backup Gadget presets? I'm gonna need to do this to transfer them over to my new iPad (which I want to start from fresh rather than restoring from a profile).

In iFunbox Classic, go to the Gadget folder under "User Applications", then Library, then User Programs. The User Programs folder holds .prog files for every gadget, and these files contain your user presets.

Hopefully KORG provides a way to back these up and restore them from within the Gadget app, as from iOS 8.3 onward there will be no way to access these files anymore...

Wow, not my experience at all. Windows music making was a horror of latency, audio driver and compatibility issues for me. I couldn't wait to get off the thing. I can do more, faster, for less money, and a lot less hassle on the iPad.

I appreciate that not everyone's experience is going to be the same, and experiences vary according to the hardware, software and workflow one employs. What works for one person might not work for another.

Maybe I'll revisit using iOS as my primary music making platform in the future, but for right now, I'm having a fantastic time with Renoise on my laptop.

  • Thanks @PHᐃNTᐃSM

I'm hoping my eBay iPad doesn't come with iOS 8.3 then!

If you're having fun then go for it :)

I use Windows PC's for work and though not dedicated music making machines, are usually top spec. None of the last four have been great for recording music: really bad latency, audio driver madness (trying to configure Asio4All with Maschine was a recurring nightmare as it'd then regularly forget the settings), a couple of hard drive failures, and general Windows randomess made it a frustrating experience. Until I bought a Mac I could never record audio in because of the terrible latency.

I could probably have reduced the latency by spending more money on professional audio cards and interfaces - but after already spending a few grand on hardware and software (Ableton alone cost over £700), and being on a tight budget, I couldn't justify the expense. In comparison that £700 has pretty much paid for my iPad and all the software on it.

My replies to the iOS criticisms are really just feedback of my own experiences on other platforms. I'm not attacking Windows machines, just pointing out they're not necessarily going to be any more hassle free than using an iPad, plus it generally costs more - my favourite iOS effect Turnado is 6 times more expensive for the Windows version, for example.

I still use my PC to trim and upload finished tracks to Soundcloud (but only because I do the artwork on the PC though), but I'd miss all the lovely synths and apps if I didn't have the iPad.

  • I think in Gadget, if you use a user preset in a project and then save and transfer the project then that's a way to transfer presets - but not ideal.

  • Animoog still crashes on my Air2, randomly but it will!
on my ipad3(8.3) or ipad1(5.1) no problem...

  • With iOS 8 and all the troubles it has caused, now with iFunbox, iTunes over the years has become more and more bloated besides being a pain in the arse to use, my love of all things Apple is sadly waning.....feels like the time to say goodbye to iOS, draws a little closer.

  • What are the top 5 things lost to iFunbox users with this update?

Being able to backup my Auria files to the desktop

Being able to add Drumagog files to Auria

Being able to backup and restore my Alchemy IAPS, these will probably be lost forever next time I upgrade my iPad

Being able to add timbres to Animoog

  • @richardyot said:

ifunbox on the PC(not sure about Mac version) has just been updated, you can now access all the file sharing folders, so that's something good anyway. So Auria project files can be copied quickly.

  • The mac version on their website dates 2013

So my guess is that sooner or later we'll be able to access the file sharing documents folder for each app via 3rd party applications on both PC and Mac.

But being able to explore the full file structure of the app looks like it's gone (forever maybe). Unless the app specifically allows access (perhaps).

I wonder if the whole Nanosync infrastructure (that digs into the Nanostudio filesystem via wi-fi) is now broken? I'll let @syrupcore test that one out :).

  • i love my iPad 3 troglodyte headache maker that it is but sometimes I feel like the whole point of making music is to make music and when you fire up something extremely light like a macbook air, connect a midi controller to it and fire up ableton live all of the iOS demons just go away, and since I use them both daily it's a feeling I'm always running into. I think the mac is what allows me to use the iPad though because if I only used an iPad I think I would lose my mind. If you just look at what we have to go through standing on pins and needles with audiobus alone, hoping that this app or that app works correctly etc... you'd have to travel back in time many years to arrive at the macbook/pc equivalent time and space. Think about it in the iOS realm we are still at the point where we don't have complete midi , or we still don't have appropriate audio copy paste etc.. unless we use audio share, again I'd lose my mind without that app.
we go on and beg apple to give us an iPad with a modicum of power, and the ability to transfer files with usb, and this and that and all of these things are trivial on laptops made by apple and other manufacturers that are more powerful than an iPad will be for quite some time, and these laptops are very light and portable too.

still I'm finding my way with some very creative and inspiring apps and looking forward to upgrading to a better iPad but 'm also learning that for me personally my perspective on the iPad has had to slow down a good bit and not out run the iPads perspective on me :D I guess

I think it really depends on your budget and reason for making music. For me it's just a hobby, so the cost of the iPad and apps is a lot cheaper than the hardware synths and hardware recorders I lust after. If I was playing keyboards in a live band though I'd definitely invest in the hardware versions.

Computer recording-wise - I'm very happy with Logic on the Mac, it's superb, but I rarely use it because picking up the iPad is so quick and immediate, particularly since I bought the Air 2, and it gets me out of the office. Plus adding plugin synths and effects is more expensive. Again though, if my goal was to produce professional quality recordings then I'd invest more in the Mac and a proper desk.

The iPad provides a quick, cheap, fun way of creating some silly tunes and noises so that's what works for me but I get that it's not enough for pro users. I would say though (aside from the iFunbox issues and a few remaining glitches) 8.3 has dramatically improved what I can do on the Air 2. For the first week I had it I was a bit disappointed, now it runs like a demon. I still get the odd issue - I was demonstrating it to a friend yesterday and a Thumbjam/FLUX/Audiobus combo froze. But that's a rare thing now and the new performance from apps such as Gadget makes it worth the price for that alone.

  • I wonder how i can backup my Gadget stuff the next time it will be necessary. Not even talking about presets for the synths but thinking about 150+ sounds/kits i made for Abu and Bilbao.Roundabout 1 GB of samples including....

  • well said Monzo, although I do consider the iPad a professional tool, that's probably where my frustrations come from. It's capable of so many great things I just wish they would give it more muscle and flexibility. we used to be living in the past waiting on the future but now we are living in the future and still waiting on the future :(

i love the creative intuitive new ways on iOS, dont make music with my Laptop since 2-3years,
but i hate the golden cage without the trivial usage of copy and paste things over USB...
just wanna copy MY! own music/sample into, just with the explorer, no additional SW!, thats all.

    apple this sucks

and for me its unbelievable that iTunes become "Standard" and people accepted this....everytime i plug my pad in my computer have to wait the syncFUCK minutes to use it,
    i cant believe it...

And while waiting you can't even turn on some music. I think it really is time to separate the music player iTunes from the iOS device file manager part. It's hard to believe they couldn't come up with a better solution yet.

  • i always cancel the auto backups of iTunes.Things got much easier though since i have a 128GB ipad an not enough space on my macbook for a backup.ITunes just shows a little warning then and that's it.No backup wait or even more annoying is the sync of my purchased apps...This ended ALWAYS in a big mess.

Launch iTunes and open “Preferences” from the iTunes menu.

    Click on the “Devices” tab.

Check the box next to “Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically”

Click “OK” to exit out of Preferences.

(I haven't used iTunes for an age, hope ^ still works!)

  • yes, that's right. It was not what i meant, though. My mistake.I should add to my previous post that this happens when i just want to move a new itunes playlist to my iPad.Instead of doing JUST this itunes annoys with the appsync and backup shit.

THX yes, i will look into....but i just wanna use the memory of my expensive device as i want too, but i am not mature enough with my 41years...thx apple to protect us from ourself.

  • Cool! I always used CopyTrans for my mp3's (no waiting)

Didn't use any of their other transfer software.

    iTunes ’Tut Tut'

I am in the process of doing exactly that.

Best case is that you can archive the whole Gadget .ipa (with all docs and data) and then restore that .ipa to an iOS8.3 ipad via iTunes.

If I ever had problems with restoring from backup and loosing app data it was because I could not understand apple's logic. I think as Matt said above, if iTunes box for backup to this computer is checked everything including IPAs and content will be stored within that backup. I haven't tried it with gadget but it worked for me with loopy. So every time one reinstalls the app and then syncs it with iTunes data should reappear within the app.
