    Unfortunately I am on 8.3 already ;)

edit:oh,i afair someone wrote here that it's still possible to backup/restore an .ipa via iFunbox.Gotta try it myself

@Supadom:yes,in THEORY it should work that way i guess. However,i've been burned once after an iPad upgrade and realizing after that still quite a lot of content was missing. Many game saves for example.

Cool! I always used CopyTrans for my mp3's (no waiting)

does it allow you to drag and drop mp3s to your ipad?

  • @Crabman , @supadom

That's what I thought re: the ipa... but although iTools does let you archive and then restore the ipa, it seems no documents now get transferred with it.

For Gadget it seems the only way right now, on a Mac, is to just transfer the whole documents folder via iTunes. But that means you lose all your user presets*.

*Although you should still have that preset in any song you've used it in - so you could go through the process of saving presets out from songs one by one (pretty annoying!)

Yep! Straight to your iPhone/iPad's (iPod library!)

'I take no responsibility for how anyone uses it!'

  • Yep... poor show really. My Gadget .ipa backup in my iTunes folder 'mobile applications' folder is 1.35GB - so that contains everything (and was obtained pre- iOS 8.3).

When I restore Gadget via iTunes to my iPad mini which does not have Gadget installed and is on iOS8.3 - all I get is the default app. Not even my songs and wavs from the itunes shared documents folder.

  • Nice to see all the tips and tricks, but why oh, why, if this is an OS that is maturing, then why does it feel like it's maturing me, should rename iOS 8 ..... kaiOS!

That makes sense. The backup is associated with the ipad that's been backed up so if you restore it to a different one it won't transfer the docs. I think.

  • Good buy animoog iaps.....(well got them for free when there was a glitch ).

But I am not worried since iFunbox always catch up with iOS updates....so don't panic. I'm sure an update will follow...in worst case scenario I'll jailbreak.

Yep, I agree, think Tim Webb over at Palm Sounds, JB's his, so maybe worth a look, if iFunbox is crippled.

I'm sure you don't have to wait long for an update for PC but will you be able again to access other folder then"documents"?Currently it doesn't look like it...and us poor mac user will be left in the cold from the iFunbox devs me think...

  • That's my concern too @Crabman - that anything other than Documents will not be accessible. That's a real downside to the 8.3 "upgrade". As someone else pointed out, continuing to stay on 7 for as long as possible is looking more and more attractive every day .

It's associated to one particular iDevice, but related with one particular account. So, in theory, you could restore the complete content fron one to another. You have to link any device you want with a particular computer (up to five). In fact, when you restore, the iPad ask you if you trust in that particular computer.

As I can remember, that's what I did when changed iPad2 for iPad4 (with the caution, of course, the backupa manually the docs via iFunbox). In fact, first date, the iPad4 was a perfect clone and can check it out everything before delete nothing.

  • I'm going to miss getting into Z3TA folders and adding stuff.
So i went back to 8.1.2 will all my Z3TA folder structure need to be reconstructed?
So glad I did a backup of ZETA be for upgrading.

  • I can imagine gadget will be fully restored if you load a complete backup but what to do when you want to restore Gadget only? That's more important imo.

  • Yes, you're right. Apple don't make it easy when you try to do just one single thing.

  • Amazingly NanoStudio's "Nanosync" wifi thing seems to work fine. Files in and out that way on iOS8.3 no problem.

You took too long @syrupcore - so i had to try to it :).

  • I guess if you keep doing a full restore as you get new iPads - and you don't delete apps like Gadget, Animoog or Z3ta (or Alchemy) ever - then you can keep your current custom patches and timbres.

But as for my nice clean second device Mini it's come at rather a bad time :(. And I was tempted to do a completely clean rebuild of my main Air1 when I go to iOS8.3 (which i've decided it's time to do).

Oh well... 1st world problems I guess.

This is a link to an article regarding how iFunbox tried to create a workaround over the weekend. I think everyone is scrambling to fix the prob.

  • After catching up on reading all the comments hear, I was considering upgrading my iPad Air (1) from 7.1.2 to 8.2. Still possible since Apple is still signing ( so they say). My iPhone is already on 8.2, but I don't do most of my playing on it and many apps I have are iPad only.

So in preparation, I finally upgraded my Windows iTunes to 11.4 ( iOS 8.2 requires iTunes11.2 minimum). That went smoothly and so far it's better than the 11.1 I was running.

While that was running I searched the net for more info on going to 8.2 since it's a manual type upgrade and ran across what is/was being called wifried.

Anybody notice big swings in there wifi speed with 8.x?

I may just stay at 7.1.2 and see what the next iOS update brings.

I'm picking up an iPhone 6+ to replace my 5 this afternoon. My Air2 is upgraded to 8.3 (before I knew about the issues. Brain cramp) i haven't upgraded my phone. I've backed it up and used iExplorer to copy all my songwriting files from the Apps I use for that - Rode and Tascam, plus my old version of FiRe2. The question. When I restore the new 6+, will it stay at iOS 8.2 ?
Should I worry about it now or should I let it upgrade to 8.3? I haven't checked to see if iFunbox or CopyTransvare working yet, and no one here has commented in a while.

  • So far no news from iFunbox. If they fix the issues, then I will stay with 8.3 if not, I'm going back to 8.2. I really need to be able to import and export stuff Z3TA thru iFunbox.

Is there a way to go back to 8.2?

Thanks for the update. I'll have to find out how to go back to 8.2 on my iPad Air2.

  • I think I did a backup.

  • edited April 2015

@Musicman4Christ - I could be wrong, but you can only go back to an earlier version of iOS if Apple is still signing that version when restoring. Restoring a backup only restores the settings and data (if the app data is backed up). You have the choice of leaving the iOS version that is on your device there or upgrading to the current version. There is a manual method, but only works as long as Apple is signing that version ( google downgrade ios 8.3 to 8.2 for instructions) and requires a Mac/PC with iTunes. From what I found (4/20) on the web, they are still signing. Also, when doing a restore, at least from PC/iTunes, the app versions restored are the versions that are on your PC in iTunes, the app itself is not part of the backup.

Now, if someone knows otherwise, please comment. I'm still on 7.1.2 and would love to try 8.2 or 8.3, but as I understand it, there's no going back, as Apple no longer is signing 7.1.2.

  • I had no issues on 8.2. Everything I used was working great!
Man, should have listened to my gut.

I feel the same way. I hope to use the 6+ more for writing and maybe some other things, but I don't know what apps are optimized for it. Ganthofer, it looks like it'll depend on whether the seller upgraded or not. I thought restoring from my 5's backup would mean 8.2 no matter what. Well, getting ready to go check it out...

  • It's updated to 8.3.
But what a great phone/tablet/little computer!

  • F.Y.I. - Apple is still signing 8.2

I had to update my company iPhone 5C from 8.2 to 8.3, so afterwards I tried downgrading it and had no problems. Of course you need a backup to restore (or not) since it take it back to factory settings like a new one. Had a little trouble upgrading again to 8.3 ( stuck on Verifying Update ), but after doing a hard restart it finished and I'm now on 8.3

Time to see how I like it. I think my iPad Air will stay on 7.1.2 till the dust settles on 8.3 and perhaps the next version release is imminent.

  • I've been reading this thread with great interest as I've been staying at iOS 7.0 on an iPad Air. In retrospect I wish I'd at least updated to 7.1 as that seems to be something of a cut-off point requirement for several apps I'd like to be able to use or update.

I don't do any "external" file-sharing (iFunbox etc) and don't recall seeing any iOS 8.3 deal-breakers for the apps I do rely on most .. given this is it safe to say the jump from 7.0 to 8.3 is one worth making?
