I found them! I was wondering if someone could tell me if I can directly download the Sound Fonts to my iPad or if do I need to use Mac to import them into the bsi.

    Hmm...

Has anyone been able to convert the 'ProteusVX' *.exb bank with corresponding *.ebl files (In the SamplePool folder) into a useable *.sf2 archive? (Keeping my fingers crossed that some of us here managed to do this and is willing to share).

I admit i Googled for converters but none of those i found worked, bummer...

  • I finally feel like I've made some good progress in getting my own sounds made with iM1 and then imported into Gadget.

Working out I had to turn on the res on the filter was a start.

I've found that messing with filter modulation and filter envelopes at the extremes of the filter, mixed with maybe some pitch modulation - plus chorus / reverb / delay on the effects works well for creating your own pads.

It's good to get things fairly extreme in iM1 and then use the dials you get in Gadget to then turn things up and down to taste (eg the 2 wet/dry dials on the effects and the filter).

You can also, in Gadget, change the balance between the two source sounds. If you make them, and the filter settings on them, quite different - you get quite a lot of automation possibilities in Gadget so the sound can change and evolve.

All in all, quite good for creating interesting evolving pads. Reminds me a bit of Alchemy pads. The source sounds from iM1 can be pretty much anything - and there's a lot to choose from.

Thanks for that, that's one of the few really useful bits of info about the iM1 that I've seen. I may well retract my earlier thoughts and buy this after all.

Thanks :). Yes I'm keen on using it as new programable synth for Gadget. Not so interested in just using the presets. (Although I'm sure there are some great ones).

It's kind of still a bit restricted - but it feels like you can get some mileage out of it as a sort of audio source sample manipulator.

  • I haven't even looked at what you can do with with drum kits yet.

  • We might even be able to share iM1 presets for use in Gadget. Because iM1 has import / export of presets I believe.

    keep the infos coming,appreciated :)

  • IM1 just made it to Apples Best New Apps list, . Not a big surprise really .

While I am still somewhat diligently going through the presets it was understanding this part of the iM1/Darwin equation which really opened up the possibilities for me.

I hope the sharing/import/export thing is a go, I'd love to hear/see what you've been up to.

  • I think it is. I've got to investigate further though.

Should be able to save out a 'user card' to the iTunes's folder - then send that to someone else.

    That would be quite cool.

  • I've mostly been trying to make things a bit like the Universe patch, which aren't the Universe patch.

  • It feels a bit like working out how to use a 1982 beta max though.

It is an interesting time (of which there is not enough of :), what with Darwin and also taking a new look at Alchemy, especially with your notion of recording perfect sections for easy import into Bilbao kits which I have found a real liberator (so thanks again for that :)

In iM1 the velocity of a note can be made to impact on the modulation timing and amount. That's quite cool (eg the patch could get wilder as you play louder).

I'm wondering if that gets pushed through to when the patch is played inside Gadget. Would be great if it is.

You're welcome. Haven't actually done that myself yet. But when I get time...

By the way, just reading the manual on my phone, designing home brewed drum kits in iM1 - for use in Gadget, seems pretty cool actually. I need to get stuck in and see what sounds are available though.

  • When sampling what the Im1 offered for sound in gadget I was very happy to see that it would add a whole lot to gadgets drum samples that I had previously found to be lacking.

It is indeed a go. I've found thousands of patches online, in the form of .syx files, that I've imported via iTunes. The patches import to your user cards, so be careful to not overwrite any patches you might already have there.

To find said patches, Patch Arena has MANY collections nicely zipped and ready to download, but if you do a Google search for M1 syx you'll find those and plenty others.

    Thanks for the update Guv'nor!

Maybe someone can help. There are two kinds of keyboards. The small one, where you can enable chords, choose the scale, a.s.o.. To the right you can switch to the big keyboard. But with this, if you have chosen chords before, they will not be played anymore. Same from external keyboard. Tried to find out in the manual something about it, but there is nothing. Whats the trick?

  • Can someone give me a quick tutorial on how to get M1 syx files from computer to M1 app. Thanks.

That's really useful. Thanks. Will check out.

    2 questions

    • can you chose which user card it will overwrite?

    • what's the difference between a 'user' card and a 'library' card? Is there any difference?

  • edited May 2015

To be honest, I haven't gotten far enough to be able to answer those questions.

I tried selecting specific user cards hoping that the presets would load to those cards, but they always seem to load to the first user card. If the preset bank I'm importing has more than 50 presets, the second 50 load into user card 2. But, I haven't seen any presets load to user card 3 or 4.

  • Yup. Would be good to know about the where of the importing :) Would also very much like to know (unless it's just a legacy thing) what the difference between the Library and User cards is? Perhaps just that you can use Library cards in Darwin and not the others?

I downloaded the syx files to my desktop and then used iTunes to copy them to the documents folder of iM1.

Within iM1, go to the File menu and select Import from M1. There you'll see all the syx files you've copied over.

Thanks @rocco. I did that but don't see files in any users banks.

  • I got it. Had it set to Combi, and had to change to Program. Thanks again @rocco.

  • Ok, to answer the question of the difference between a user and a library card. I read the iM1 manual this afternoon and, as far as I understood it:

You can write your own presets to user and library cards.

The user cards are saved in a session and so can be imported and exported by saving sessions from the File menu.

The library cards are shared amongst all sessions, and Darwin.

If I have that wrong then feel free to correct me because I would like to be confident I'm not going to lose presets when saving.
