  • Yes, got the M1 cards now, much more choice. Is there anything different about the T1 or is it more of the same? Will probably get it anyway. The editing abilities are impressive enough not to worry too much about the presets.

  • More classic samples and patches on the T1 cards :)

I stand corrected, this is much better than I thought it would be, but am I the only one who thinks that Korg have done an odd thing in that the stand-alone app seems much more powerful than the Darwin Gadget ?
Surely porting over some of it's editing capabilities into Gadget would make Gadget itself much better in terms of integration ?
Unless I'm missing something, I'm unable to use the combi and multi patches in Gadget while you can in the iM1, that seems a strange oversight.

But back to the positives, it really is darn good (even as a rompler) !

Wasn't the original M1 considered a rompler, as well?

  • I suspect there are some memory restrictions in gadget because it's doing so much else as well.

A bit more functionality in Darwin would have been nice though.

You can emulate the multi and combos by adding more Darwins and duplicating their piano rolls.

I'd like some vibrato control in Darwin (unless I've missed it).

I'm really enjoying the traditional sounds - I was expecting tinkle overload but there are some beautiful presets - clarinets, oboes and strings, plus a few Mellotron samples....loads of percussion. Two thirds of the sounds I'll probably never use - but that still leaves me with over a thousand great sounds to use in my Gadget tracks - and that's before I start mucking about with them.

Really helps with the compositional side of things if you've got some decent 'go to' samples to build your track with.

  • Yeah, welcome to the Dark Side Mister Monzo, the daughter's lovely....

@Matt_Fletcher_2000 You can emulate the multi and combos by adding more Darwins and duplicating their piano rolls. this is good advice, and also a sentence I would like Mister Charles Darwin hisself to read upon his next visit to the future... :)

  • @monzo You can draw 'automation' for modulation wheel which will add vibrato to darwin.

This is but only one of the reasons why I requested a 'bigger' keyboard (with pitch & mod wheels naturally) for Gadget in the Gadget forums over at Korg.

Ah great - thanks for the tip :)

  • I somewhere-I-can't-recall picked up a folder of M1 sysex files & four out of five have loaded properly so far in iM1, this is 50-200 patches per file, each file is 30kb or less, The folder I acquired is 38mb, so I guess there are a lot of presets to be had for this app....

    Funny...

You can? Ooooh good tip - thanks... Is this the case on other gadgets? Does the mod wheel always relate to vibrato?

Bought the M1 as well now (along the iAPs) and really looking forward to my 1000 km car travel tomorrow.I'm not the driver so i have a lot of time to explore that thing :)

  • I'm in total awe for this new iM1 guys! I dreamed of owning one so much in the 80's but we couldn't afford it, so we settled for our old Roland D20. But, I am completely amazed how awesome this thing sounds. This is an amazing sounding synth and I will definitely be using this baby live at church for worship. I still need to learn how to save the combis in a place where I can select them in an order to be used live. I think this synth has great and amazing sounding pads and strings. I might get mimix to mix Synthmaster, Z3TA and iM1 for live use.

What an awesome month May was. So many awesome synths!

  • I added Darwin & now Bilbao & Abu are un-purchased & Gadget can't connect to the app store to restore my purchases. :/

Where is Point A and Point B? I think we need a road song out of you :)

Yeah Bilbao decided to un-purchase itself for me too. It does restore once you are connected though. It made me realise Abu Dhabi was on sale again. Not sure what I will use it for yet..

  • Just went through the same. Had a holy terror for ten minutes that all my (many) user kits would be killed, but all's well.

From the manual, it says iM1 responds to MIDI program changes, if that is any use to you?

    Agreed.

  • So @soundtestroom which sounds from your initial iM1 vid were from the IAP's and which were from the basic app? I couldn't keep track, but you hit some real iconic sounds I want to find. It would save time going through the 3,500 sounds looking for a couple..

  • Looks like I am not the only one. Seems to be something that has to be fixed.

Maybe someone can help. There are two kinds of keyboards. The small one, where you can enable chords, choose the scale, a.s.o.. To the right you can switch to the big keyboard. But with this, if you have chosen chords before, they will not be played anymore. Same from external keyboard. Tried to find out in the manual something about it, but there is nothing. Whats the trick?
