Thanks. Yep, percentage chance is cool.

Would be nice if you could generate some slightly random fills on the fly somehow. Not sure how you could do that.

The ability to rotate patterns or reverse them on the fly is nice. Can't do that in Gadget.

Nearly there on the slightly random fills front. Set up one pattern for the fill. Use Auto rotate, Pendulum and Percentage chance. Trigger it from the pattern select on the main page while occasionally altering the rotate value....sort of works.

  • I'd like to see sample preview, and a little more intricacy on sample editing.

    Nice app.

yug some of my beta testers were on iPad 2, and they didn't complain, but having not tried it myself, I thought I should be safe. If you want to give it a go, I won't fault you if you ask for a refund if it's not going well.

Great, thanks. I'm gonna give it a shot.

No loop export yet? Oh. Ah well, I'll work around it for now!

    Really?

  • In File, 'Save as' works but then unable to delete. Using the 'delete' option puts a selection circle next to all of the entries except the entry that has been saved using the 'Save as' option.

  • Great app :)
Lots of good kits and great that midi out is flexible, plays well with others.

Although strange that when I send different channels out to Waldorf Attack I have to select the first 4 tracks as sending to Attack then the last 4 channels as Patterning to work with all channels.
My requests to add to the others, more song mode options for duplicating arrangements on the timeline, cut copy paste etc

For the future...and here's a biggie, a synthesis engine. It seems like the ideal environment for its own synth engine with the Ui Not just samples. maybe that's Patterning 2?

  • Most likely, the attitude is "hey let me get this app before anyone else, and hope the dev gives me a promocode in exchange"

But, having said that, it is also up to the dev to ensure all is functioning correct and that all essential features arrive on launch...there should be no hurry in releasing cause first impressions last..

Maybe he felt some pressure cause peeps were getting all excited here and impatient lol

I mean there was a thread entitled "we want patterning now", which sound like toddlers being impatient for toys lol

If I were the dev, that would have made me nervous and hurried...

What bogs my mind is how some pretty 'essential' features are missing(like import & export). What did the beta-testers focus on? Getting early access to the app??

  • Hmmm, the unexpected feature i love is the nice seamless transition between kits. That is soooo useful for me. 8)

I don't have a problem with it - when I import via Audioshare I can preview the sample in that, and there's a nice little sample wave crop option once it's in.

Haven't tried other import options but working fine for me via AS

no AcP, nahh I don't believe it lets wait until ben chimes in, it's gotta be in there somewhere :)
I wanna use patterning with my iPhone 6+ though! pretty please.

First off, the app is amazing. Didn't have a ton of time with it last night, but I was instantly able to appreciate the design and put beats together. I actually think $9.99 is a fair price, but the UI and assortment of kits did have the feel of a more expensive app.

That said, the lack of AudioCopy/Paste and "real" export of loops is a little surprising. I think some developers just don't know that people still use it. A lot of the synth apps had raw audio recorders with .wav export, and that was what you did before AudioBus came around. But with rhythm apps, where perfect timing/loop size are important and content is often copied and pasted, ACP still makes a lot of sense.

It be nice to have a "bounce loop" feature with a selector for exporting 1, 2, or 4 measures, and then maybe an "Open In" option for AudioShare. But this is an initial release, so there's plenty of time to figure that out.

I wouldn't call it a problem. I'd just prefer a slightly better editing area. Let's say I have a WAV with all (8) sounds on it. Instead of slicing it into separate samples in Audioshare, then loading each into Patterning, I'd prefer to load that single WAV into Patterning, into each of the 8 layers, then just go into each and adjust markers to isolate one sound for each.

    Easier.

  • I just imported a sample, works great 8)

@AudioGus In the case of Patterning mostly export, import works just fine.

  • I've just been using cubasis for recording and it works great. The iaa sync is so exceptionaly tight on this.

  • Yepp, but one still needs to record and trim the output. The export feature would save some time and well I just took 'export feature' for granted since the app already had an option to import from AudioShare...

    Ditto.

  • does it do triplets?

  • edited August 2015

@blanksmaiden Yepp, but the 'grid' is pretty weird as it can't show correct number of hits per beat when using triplets. (So for example 1/8t would require 12 steps for a 4/4 beat (app shows 3 beats), and 1/16t is good with 24 steps, but shows up as 6 beats). Maybe this will be fixed in a future update, who knows...

Cool. Just saw the import button. Dunno how I missed it.

I agree with others that audio copying/pasting of fixed length loops would be a real workflow enhancement.

  • well then i'm definitely buying it on pay day :)

That's a pretty advanced request, to be fair to the dev I think the current sample import works well and for this price I wouldn't expect that sort of functionality considering how much else it does already.

  • The multiple samples per file could also come in handy if there was a way to automate the sample-start (this would allow multiple sounds per 'ring').

  • i think we are talking about Patterning 2, already :)

I don't see that at all. I'm already pulling the sample in. It's just a question of being able to fine-tune the start and end points a little better. In fact, just about everything else Patterning does is more "advanced".

Look at AudioShare's method. Tap / Hold enlarges the waveform so you can drag the marker a bit more accurately. Simple and effective.

  • Can anyone explain what the repeater/echo pencil is/does?

Does it effect Midi coming out?

  • turn it on, draw a note and watch what happens will explain it better than words

I dont need to trim in cubasis. i just set the loop points for the recording, recording a stream for a bit, soloing etc to get isolated chunks, then export the loops i like. I actualy find it quicker then export, which i never use in programs. I totaly get how some workflows would benefit from it though.

In the end I find with patterning.... what is a loop in the end? Things dont start and end for me at a specific loop. Could be a tough feature to nail, unlike with dm1

  • Warning: just imported a 98meg file for the heck of it. Now when I go to user samples it crashes so i need to reinstall the app as nothing shows up in itunes or ifunbox. Beware! 8)
