The updated version now works with iOS v12 and v13. I just installed it on my iPad Air 1. No testing yet, but very excited. I've been using Loopy and Loopy HD since iPad 2.

First impressions after a few hours with iPad Air 1 on iOS v12.

    • In standalone more, LP's interface feels a little less responsive compared with AUM. That's a report, not a criticism. Keep in mind: the iPad Air 1 was introduced in Nov. 2013, eight years ago. AUM was designed when machines were slower, and things have moved on.

    • Everything works so far. I love being able to record a track, idle the generator app, and move on to another layer. There were ways of doing this in AUM, but never in a way that seemed as natural as working with Audiobus 2 and Loopy HD. Result: a lot of projects never progressed beyond the first four bars.

    • I look forward to exploring LP as a standalone DAW. Unfortunately, some of my favorite drum apps are IAA-only. With the help of Richard Yot's video -- -- I was able to record DrumJam into Loopy Pro...and it works great. Projects saved this way are seemingly "stuck" in AUM, but it's easy to export them (in AUM-hosted LP) to LP's own folder in the iPad file system. If this were all LP did -- be Loopy in AUM -- I would be thrilled. I feel like I have an old friend back, after he's learned some new tricks.

THANK YOU, Michael, for supporting this older gear. I didn't realize my iPad was this old until I looked up the date. It can still do a lot, if given the chance!

If you save the loopy project from the AU extension in AUM you can just switch to loopy stand-alone and load the project straight from there, you’ll find it in the AU Extension folder.

If you watch my video right to the end you’ll see me do that.

    Found it, @wim

But I am not able to recognise the sequence of colors that would be used, or the next position.

Purple was added in the slot after Blue.
    Then Aqua before Blue.
And next Dark Blue between Blue and Purple.

I cannot see logic in the position where the new color is added.
And I cannot see this sequence of colors in the color selector:

Right now, it seems random 😳

Far from random. They appear to be added in order of colors in the spectrum. Aka the colors of the rainbow. I like it this way, FWIW. Much better than having to choose a color every single time you add a channel. Or donut, etc.

Then it may be a good idea to show them in this order also in the color picker 😉

EDIT: I dont see that the sequence that was added is from the sequence in the color spectrum. How did you come to that idea? Blue - Purple - Aqua - Dark Blue

The colour addition order is one that I selected empirically, with the goal of progressively leaving you with colours that are as distinct from one another as possible. They’re listed by hue order in the selectors, and they stay in that order within the mixer, primarily for aesthetic reasons, to be honest. But as you’ve discovered you can re-order them however you like and you can tap to change the colour.

So looking forward to midi clips

Oddly, as one of the very early whiners about it not being planned for initial release way back when Loopy Pro was announced, I'm no longer looking forward to this like I was. In some way it has become irrelevant and also seems like a retreat from the spontaneity I'm finding with committing to audio loops. It's very weird.

In the interest of beta testing I've been loading up LK, Atom2, Midi Tape Recorder, and others, but somehow I just don't have as much fun, and, with the ones that allow editing, get distracted with tweaking parts and synth patches rather than recording better or different takes.

I'm going to be happy to see it, but also might not be using it as much as I thought. Go figure. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤔

I’m on the same boat. At first I tried to implement the “usual” midi workflow, using LK and whatever synth, trying to trigger LK scenes, output mapping, etc… But I got bored and opted for just bouncing whatever midi to an audio loop. So liberating!!. Try out stuff, record it to a donut, move on…
I keep the original midi info in an idle LK instance in case I want to redo something, but that’s about it. I’m not organized enough to recall every setting, synth, preset in case I want to change something further on, so I’ll just do it again. But the benefits of just “moving on” and settling on stuff are very rewarding.
So my workflow with midi is: LK as a midi source. Set destination/s auv3 instruments, record some phrases, try out stuff. Commit to audio and mute LK. Repeat and rinse. If you wish you’d done something different you can come back to LK and try to recreate the sound, will probably not happen but you’ll find something else that you like and you use that instead.

The wonderful thing about Loopy Pro is you can get back to those sounds. You can leave all the apps and FX in the project, but idle them, and they really do free up all their resources. This has always been a big problem for me until now as I have woefully under powered devices. My dilemma has always been the difficulty of getting back to where I was to record new parts because if having to remove all the apps to save CPU. Now I don’t need to. I can go on for hours adding as many apps and FX as I need, knowing whenever I want I can pick up where I left off if I get new ideas.

BTW - this was great. 👍🏼

For a moment there I thought “Oh, Wim is as messy as me!. Relief. Look at that donut mess, just like mine!”. 😂

Another funny about apps is that they sort of lead you in a musical style… I don’t know if this makes any sense, probably horseshit, but the glow, the colors, the round donuts… makes me feel like doing more “hippy” stuff!. Mellow… Zenbeats for example looks “harsher’ and makes me want to do more “steady rock”. Is this a thing?.

Stop it. You're making me see those donuts in some really inappropriate ways.

  • Awww, thought that was a video. :(

  • Just having a go with LK in Loopy - I can launch clips using loopy button widgets, but can’t stop them! Midi learn for the stop button is n/a - anyone know how this can be achieved?

MIDI Learn the track's stop button. Clip triggers by midi seem to be start only.

Has anyone here tried to use Beatstep Pro to control LP? I seem to recall @krassmann you're a BSP guru and perhaps there are some more of you or there... Thanks in advance! 🙏

I was kind of offline during Christmas, so I didn’t spend much time with LP and my BSP yet. I wish I would be a BSP guru but actually I often need to look at the BSP cheat sheet that’s hanging on my wall 😂 I did a short session with my BSP to drive synths hosted in LP and then create loops with it. So far this works well and is a lot of fun. I actually used the BSP to quickly sketch out a drum loop or record a melody that is then quantized by the BSP before I record its audio into a donut. That is actually quite a neat workflow and I think in that sense the BSP is a very good companion for LP.

Apart from that I’m not sure if using the BSP‘s control section with LP makes sense. Probably for the mixer it does. But without visual feedback... I think LP‘s widgets are way more flexible than anything a hardware controller can do. For now, almost each of my LP projects has a different widget layout. What does make sense is a deeper out of the box integration as Michael did for Launchpads or the Akai APC 40. But I think in the next days I’ll try to explore that.

Jokes aside, but I think actually with Loopy I can finally do something musically with Bebot. That’s a great idea.

  • Ok... just went to test the 'pitch' in LoopyPro... and seems the demo has ended...

Well, my IAP is going to happen tonight...

But how is the pitch in LP, anyone?

  • Quick fix to the AU issues, plus the loops and MIDI controller combo, has sold me on it.

Feels like it could be a nice way to compose. :)

Currently, it isn’t implemented for instruments. I expect that will change relatively soon.

  • I have not figured out if I can map AuV3’s to Midi controllers, I just want to map a Knob Twist in Moog Model 15 to an external slider I have (that is sending on CC 74). Plz halp

  • @Michael
It would be nice to be able to set the glide range of a midi controller to a AuV3, if its quicker to add that functionality than all the rest of the parameters. I can cheat in a CC binding from using Moog Model 15 in standalone before I open Loopy Pro.l, but it looses it’s CC binding, and glide setting ,when I minimize LP

  • A thought out of the blue ... I find it strange that Gavinsky, Jakob Haq, Jamie Mallender and soundforme has not done any videos on Loopy Pro yet. Jakob clarified about the pricing model and that's about it.

    I wonder why ... ?

Those guys are thorough and spend a lot of time on their videos making them accurate, with good musical content, and entertaining. That takes time. Learning Loopy takes time.

The app has only been out for a week. And there was this little distraction called Christmas a few days ago, I think.
