I was actually noticing some crackling with certain Soundfonts and samples that I originally thought was just the sample or Soundfont itself.
It wasn’t until I started messing around with AUM yesterday (which was rare, as I haven’t started AUM in months!) and started going through some older projects, when I noticed a lot of crackling there, which wasn’t the case when I created those older projects.
So I then took a look at my audio settings in AUM and noticed my buffer size stuck at only 160 samples. Weird right? Of course I made sure any and all apps were closed, and then went through all of my host apps and made sure “background audio” was turned off in all of them.
Then restarted my iPad and started AUM. Nothing. Still stuck at 160 with the message “this cannot be changed as another application may be using etc”
So then I had to do some searching. I discovered a post about “Apple Intelligence” having some sort of bug in iPadOS 18.3.1 in the way that Siri works with audio (I assume the listening part but idrk).
Anyway, Siri is now part of Apple Intelligence, so in order to turn off Siri, I had to turn off Apple Intelligence. 🤷🏻♂️ So I turned it off and alls well in Smallsville. No more crackling in AUM! (Tho I still need to go find those Soundfonts and samples I was hearing crackling in in GR2 to confirm)
In Clips mode, no Song in timeline, just multiple Parts in multiple Scenes. If you go to Settings Menu > Export and select ‘Render Pattern to Audio File’ my expectation is the whole Pattern (Project) would render to audio file but actually only the currently selected Scene does. Am I missing something?
For me it barely moved, 0% cpu
Oooh yeah, i updated to ios 18, had 0 crackling before 🤡
Anyone own standalone sequencer like Xequence 2 can sync the with the clock of GR2 and how?
You'd see it in the change notes for updates if it had been added.
The crackling went away in the same project when i got home last night. Maybe my change of buffer never took cause the app wasn’t closed long enough. I was swiping up to rid the app, but relaunching from the dock without truly going home first.
Also thanks @Edward_Alexander , i was hoping someone mentioned that thread regarding siri & apple ai. I remember UncleDave starting it, but forgot the details.
Big shout out once again to @jwmmakerofmusic
He told me to get pure acid and poison 202 for internal gr2 integration and now I feel like the man for having the Jim audio collection thanks to Jim. Really thanks for sharing and also for being a cool dude making acid, techno, hip hop, salsa, jigs, country , master of DAWs and genres.
GR2 is without a doubt the greatest thing on ipad (besides Cubasis 3.)
And big shout out to LP as well; cb3 watch out (
What would be the best integration for Playbeat 4 in GR2? How would I go from Playbeat to the clips? Maybe just exporting the audio and importing into the sampler?
iPhone mirroring is so cool btw
Now you can use GR2 and Cubasis on the Mac
Can you full screen mirrored apps on a Mac?
I’m just getting started with playbeat, but my first throught for me would be to use playbeat as a midi fx & then print the midi as I hit on good patterns. Then it might be possible to use it as an auv3 instrument to pick the final sounds?
My take would be to use playbeat to sequence and make the sounds then send midi to it to sequence the different patterns
Thanks mate. Can't wait to hear someday what you make in it!
I'll have to agree there mate.
Lol. Cheers. 🥂
I asked a stupid question... GR2 actually work under AUM as IAA.
I can start and stop everything including my MPE tracks on Xequence 2 but the GR 2 clock is not sync with AUM
I'll need to watch some videos about printing to midi, it's very new to me!
You mean that you would make a few patterns then launch the different patterns using a midi signal? I'll need to dig deeper in Playbeat to figure this out!
Did you enable IAA Host Sync in GR-2 settings > audio? Probably you should disable Ableton Link if using IAA Host Sync to be safe. Just asking - I haven't tried myself, but that seems like it should work. If not, it could be a bug.
+1
It's very cool. If you have an AUv3 midi plugin on a layer and it's playing something successfully on that part, then just stop the transport and long-press in an empty cell in the clip launcher. Select Print Midi from the popup menu, it'll play through one pattern length, capturing the mid output, then ask if you want to switch to the clip and disable the plugin.
Set the default clip length in the pattern settings before printing the midi.
That works perfectly
I will try that tomorrow, thanks!
Anyone have recordings of their workflow in GR2? I’d love to get some ideas from other folks workflows.
All good now after rebooting, changing the setting!
edit: I am spoiled by AUv3 I have to admit this is my very first timing playing with IAA
I'm very happy to have everything I like putting together. Now GR2 has midi clip and song mode and I wonder how Loopy Pro will react.
I believe even Drambo diehard users, which they most likely use the internal modules, will like the idea to host Drambo under GR2 for gaining the clips and song mode.
Drambo already has a very good clip launcher mode (which I use as a vertical “song mode” and/or timeline).
GR2 does admittedly have some nice features in it’s clip mode over Drambo (and some that I’d like to see come to Drambo eventually, like the clip follow actions etc.)
But indeed, using the Drambo AUV3 inside GR2 is great, as an instrument, OR as an AUV3 MIDI processor, OR both.
Thanks man, man How I love this app
Poison 202 and pure acid are almost like IAP with this; perfect integration like with Cubasis 3…maybe why I love this groovebox so much is it reminds me of if cb3 was turned into a groove box or something
The dev is really special and I finally appreciate Jim Audio![ Thanks Jim and wim]
I already had Pure Acid and after getting GR2 I quickly bought Poison-202. I especially love the stripped down Pure Acid. At times I want the bass as an instrument without the sequencer. I can’t seem to get a flow for the combination of button presses it takes to set it up in Pure Acid so the straightforward editor is significantly less frustrating.
The manual says:
I’m selecting all clips in Session Mode but Render Pattern to Audio File: still only renders the last played Scene - nothing more.
Should this export option by changed to say ‘Render Scene to Audio File:’? Could someone check if I’m misinterpreting something or explain how it works with the full pattern? My understanding of which is GRII’s definition of a pattern is the whole project not a just a scene, clip, part or layer.
It may be that you need to have the clips set with the follow actions set so that they play through as a song. I'm referring to where you set the number of repeats for each clip and which pattern they play next. My guess is its rendering the clip launcher "performance" to audio file. I think you need to set things up so that the clips play through in the order you want before rendering.
It might be quicker to record a clip performance to the the timeline, triggering each scene as needed, then render from the timeline.
The clip launcher page really needs to have follow actions and repeats that you can set at the scene level in addition to at the clip level.
