I finally done assembling a kit from the samples I bought from Bogren digital. https://bogrendigital.com/collections/mixing-drums-samples/products/krimh-drums-mix-samples

I did a quick comparaison between it and Unholy drums from One Shot. Nothing as been eq yet but it’s definitively sounding more like I want then Unholy drums.

This is also a test of a metal Bass from a sample in Halion. I am going for a klangy metal bass a la Overkill. It’s OK but could be better,
Can anybody recommend bass samples with a very bright strings sound ?

    What you think ?

Personally, I much prefer the Bogren drum kit — it’s punchier, less muddy, and brighter. Whether it’s the kick, the snare, or the toms, the result is better across the whole mix

That muddyness lead me to look for another kit.

Does the Bogren library come with cymbals and hi-hats?

No ! I use the unholy Cymbals and hi-haits

The downside of the Bogren is they have top and bottom mic samples. So you need to trigger both to get a good sound. One shot cannot do that, so you need 2 copies of Oneshot and you need to send the same midi to both.

’d say the downside isn’t really on Bogren’s side, but more on Klevgrand’s. The way Oneshot handles samples makes it tricky, since it can’t combine top and bottom mic layers without duplicating the instance and sending the same MIDI twice
I’ve already encountered the same limitation with my own samples. It’s really a shame, especially with the window not displaying the full sample names when trying to reorder them.

I had a talk with the dev and explained my case and he tought it was interesting. He will talk the the dev comité about it. If they get more request that could convince them to implement it.

What samples are you using ?

  • I also find using my drum one shots in Oneshot do not sound as good as their packs. My oneshots work much better in Balboa and Hammerhead.

I did cop the following oneshot expansions though: Unholy Drums, Kalimba, Glovkenspiel(favorite), forest, and Acoustic oddities. The samples are really good. Not $100 good, but very good.

Are you removing all slot effects, send effects and Outputs effects. It should sound the same as Hammerhead.

  • I start with a new slot, and then load each sample. I'll check the effects/sends- I assumed everything would be null.

Maybe it's the quality of my oneshots, or maybe the packs sound better because they were made to go together. I'm loading in all kinds of random drum one shots yanked from my old Akai MPC one shots usually.

some drum drops libs and master you r ons too :

  • @ecou you were 100 bro- I didn't realize the compression was active on several of the samples. I think I was loading my samples thru edit instead of importing.

After playing with the expansions, the only ones I would recommend dropping money on is the Unholy Drums and Forest packs. It's super expensive for what you actually get (imo)

I have a shared one shot directory for every drum machine I have been able to get sampled. Will share them here: They sound great in oneshot if imported properly.

That Forest pack is neat, thanks for the recc! Any idea if these expansion packs ever go on sale? They cost more than I paid for OneShot itself 🙃

  • i dont think they ever go on sale. You dont really get a lot of "kits" for what it costs. you get a slew of samples but lots are just subtle variations imo.

    costly and underwhelming.

Saw link. Clicked, downloaded. Hit copy, navigated to samples folder to paste and... pHatMix is already there 🤣🤣

So if I didn't say it before, thanks!

And if I did say it before, thanks again!

Great collection! Apparently I just gotta watch myself around the greenery 😬

I haven't picked up any oneshot packs, yet, but I did pick up some Tomofon packs. I bought them on their website, when they were on sale, I think, I paid 6 each instead of 15. I wouldn't rule out, they do it similarly every now and then with the oneshot packs.

I don’t understand why Klevgrad don’t make more drum kit extension. I really don’t care about this weird forest drum kit or other instruments that have nothing to do with drums. I don’t get that direction they are taking with the extension.

Give me some synthwave drum kit, 80’s hard rock, Thrash, extreme metal , industrial and dark wave. I would buy stuff along that line.

Totally agree! That’s the reason i never got into the app in my laptop. I git it as a gift for purchasing my midi keyboard but never got into it due to all the weird drum sounds.

I enjoy the forest one as it has some beautiful flowing water, bird sounds, branches crackling, wind sounds. It's really good for ambient stuff or if you are going for a nature vibe obviously. I expected a bit more from the Unholy drums- like the dual drumsets of pigface / ministry live- however those old drum sampler I posted like the Alesis and emu go hard and are perfect for gnarly industrial- just remember the effect chain... reverb, distortion, compressor.

  • Also, I find that using a midi controller with the forest kit is better than using OCTACHRON- you miss out on a lot of great overlapping sounds. The BIG preset is a good example. Several of those sounds won't be found in that oneshot template in OCTACHRON unless you tell it.

Wow. Thank you - I have been trying to find decent samples for a few of the kits in the Boss drum machines of yore (because I’m too lazy to sample the ones I have). This looks promising!

Sweet! What a great sample collection - I’ll have tons of fun using these with my sampling toys. Thanks!

  • @egobeats wow, thanks a lot for that nice and neat sample collection!

  • Maybe a really dumb question
but one shots only has shots?
    I mean you can’t make a track?

You need to use it as an auv3 and connect it to a sequencer like octachron?

Exactly. It’s a multi-velocity oneshot sample player that must be triggered by something else.

  • The cajon expansion is so good. Such simple, dry, yet organic sounds. I’m also particularly fond of the Jazz and UNHOLY DRUMS kits. The keyboard mapping is very well thought out in terms of placement for a real acoustic kit. Haven’t dug much into the other kits yet since they’re pretty niche (wtf is Forest Sounds? lol)

Are there any other well put together kits out there not from Klevgrand?

    Oke,
    What is used the most?
I only know octachron and a sequencer from the rozetta collection.
