Has anyone used OneShot within Grooverider 2?
GR2 is the main app I use, and I wonder how well OneShot runs in it. Would love to hear your experience.
I'm not a big user of GR2 (hope to become) but I did a quick test just for you and it runs as smooth as can be expected from 2 excellent apps. You might find better answer in a thread for GR2 though, not sure all of them more experienced users check here. OneShot is a must have. So good!
I use it in GR2 and works well.
Couple of approaches you can take:
1) Play and record midi
2) as above - then add a sampler as new layer in same part - then sample the midi to audio. You can setup record bar in settings - then press record in sampler. It will wait until you press play. Then stop recording on sampler before the end of the pattern and it will automatically stop at the end of the pattern.
Another thing I do is add Ochatron as MIDI FX and use it as a step sequencer. (then do print to midi)
I have had some issues recording into sampler, where now and again for some reason it shoots my CPU into the red.
I’m finding that Binarhythmic works great for all of the Klevgrand percussion suites.
(ting, Borsta, OneShot, skaka, slammer)
If you happen to have it laying around you should try it. Oh, and MuseBud with Skaka is pretty cool.
You can edit the loopers to create extremely long and dynamic sequences on top of the further in app tweaking of the sequence that Skaka allows.
Oh, and because of yesterday's store issues, Klevgrand support said they are going to extend their summer sale, so maybe if anyone was trying to panic and score it on sale, you have a while on the sale.
I am really happy with the addition of Borsta and Skaka to Oneshot. I didn't think I wanted it or needed it, but that's silly. It sounds too good.
I reckon a skaka type player is possible in Mozaic too.
Was just messing with octachron and oneShot, specifically the velocity sliders. Changing velocity also changes the sound/timbre of the drums! I’m guessing there’s multiple samples programmed for different velocity triggers? No wonder it’s so large. This app is amazing…
Yeah, it’s nice. Soooo many quality samples, you can trigger pads out the wazoo and they all sound natural to me.
EDIT: Ignore me, a couple of logic restarts has sorted it
I have a logic pro project using oneshot multi out. I’ve just tried opening it and I’m getting this message:
The multi out issues are sorted in logic, no? If I load a new oneshot I seem to be able to do multi out busses.
Anyone know what’s going on? I don’t really want to lose the drums in this track!
Thank you for doing that! It's great to know it runs well. I'll be having some fun with them!
Thank you! Those are great tips. I hadn't considered combining it with Octachron or sampling it, but that can have very interesting results. I'll be trying that out on the weekend.
It's a faux round robin/velocity layer combo
Example numbers ahead, not sure on specifics
So there's like 20 different velocity samples of the snare. Imagine it as a column. Your striking velocity creates a bracket around 4 samples in that velocity range, and one of those is randomly chosen
Brilliant concept really. Much smaller footprint, easier recording... But still a VERY exceptional sound
I AM curious if there's any auto volume leveling applied if it chooses one of the lower or higher velocity sample than the exact one you hit. Feels like that could really help in variety of sounds from the samples
And fwiw, Ochtachron x OneShot is a match made in heaven
Anyone want to share their OCTACHRON/OneShot midi mapping?
One that already has CC's defined.
Hi . Tested a bit of Klevgränd Oneshot with Korg Module and some Beathawk in my Loopy Pro template. Was really surprised of the quality of OneShot - it really is having great presets.. So I also wanted to add them to my Loopy Pro Song Creation Template. Feel that with OneShot and Koala I'm not needing anymore so much Maschine and MPC in beat making..
They've already done it for you. Click on the octopus, go to Midi Mapping > Apps. Then scroll down to Oneshot Kit.
UPDATE: You said CC defined - so don't know if you want their default mapping or not.
Actually the kits change a lot depending on genre what not*. General Midi will be a good start but then you might have to change things around to get the right CC or note for the right target. So a OneShot map will only take you so far.
*do a comparison between the kits in Electronic Drums and e.g Pop & Rock and you'll see what I mean.
The first pad in OneShot presets is always B1, as far as I can tell. And chromatic from there. So just generate a scale in Octachron and save it as OneShot. There's no use labelling the tracks because OneShot isn't consistent with where the snares, hats, toms etc. are placed. Mostly but not always.
I find them more often arranged to the GM drum map, which is essentially chromatic, but with some organization behind it.
Do the slammer, ting, etc. presets just bring those sounds into OneShot? Does that make either standalone app redundant? I assume not, as there are parameters that can be tweaked in the standalone’s.
You can map and share various cc's In case anyone wanted to share their's. I'll make some and share them.
Also, I had the absurd notion that ting was going to be some tiny high pitched sounding tops. You can get some deep industrial full drum sounds out of it.
rE: the presets, I could see them negating buying the original software for some. I think the apps are a great value for the control you get over the sounds. The app is made with like 2000 samples, where's that oneshit kit maybe has 30-40. lol, I don't really know-
Nah, it’s a small fraction of both apps I believe
Ah, thanks. I have all the iOS apps already, no real reason to get the free downloads, right? Redundancy at best?
Correct, prolly a means of getting people to buy slammer and ting. Just a lil taste…
Sorry, prolly shoulda said something. I had emailed them and they responded saying those banks are not for people on iOS. Bummer, but a kind soul a few posts up did provide a work around. You can get the samples in, but not the presets afaik. Tbh I have so many folders of field/foley recordings that I think I’ll be ok without them. Only issue I have now is there’s no “Create Folder” option in OneShot so my user samples list is an absolute mess 😬
Yup
I hate the messiness of user created kits
I agree
That’s why DPp rules ! (lol jk but not really)
Is anybody having succès creating kits with their own third party samples. I am still having this problem. I tought it was solved. I did put my samples in the One Shot folder.
I bought these samples to create my own kit. https://bogrendigital.com/collections/mixing-drums-samples/products/krimh-drums-mix-samples
Please, please, let the update include an export import kit option for those that want to use the desktop version to create kits for the mobile version.
I found my problem. I was saving the kit I built in the presets but I also needed to save each slots. I was missing the slot saving step.
No, none whatsoever.
