Happy New Year Everyone (late I know:-)
We are working on new stuff and I'll share more info when I can. In the meantime, Im happy to help with any issues or work arounds. What areas do you find clunky?
Hey @Matt_Fletcher_2000 happy new year to you and your team, glad to know new update coming, Hope it would not be to long away, would like to see a refinement of the UI, also would like to see things like pinch to zoom and all other issues I sorted out.
He said “We are working on new stuff.”
I’m not sure whether “new stuff” means Zenbeats, but I hope so.
Two years ago, he mentioned on the Steinberg forum that a new major version was planned for the end of 2025. As development always takes longer than expected, we can probably expect a new major version in 2026.
I have high hopes for Zenbeats — with a few additions, it could be the perfect DAW.
Hey @Matt_Fletcher_2000 is it possible in Zenbeats to use your midi keyboard on iOS to control Zenbeats playback and instruments,
That might be the wrong Matthew. Maybe @MatthewAtZenbeats is the Matthew you’re looking for
If “IOS unlock v3” is purchased, can that functionality be used offline without being logged in?
If so, does it require a periodic login to validate access?
Yes you can use a MIDI keyboard on Zenbeats.
As long as the iOS Unlock V3 is installed, you can use Zenbeats without being online.
@MatthewAtZenbeats every year or so i check in on Zenbeats hoping that pinch to zoom is implemented, and that it has full MPE recording, playback, and editing which i can’t live without unfortunately.
Has Zenbeats ever considered a public roadmap? I’d love to get a sense of what the Zenbeats team considers important.
I would love to use it. It’s an inspiring environment to work in, just missing some features for me. ❤️🩹
@MatthewAtZenbeats , i mean Bluetooth for your computer , like a keyboard case.
Any news on Zenbeats 4 development progress and its approximate release date?
Duplicated post
Is Zenbeats abandonware now, in favor of the Zenology synthesizer? There has been no update for a year and no word on this forum. Does anyone have any news?
I was just having that abandonware feeling the other day. I want to Love Zenbeats, but lately I gravitate to apps where developers are ACTIVELY involved in fixing bugs and improving the apps.
I really have no use for Zenology, I have way more synthesizers, samplers.... in my toybox, than I will ever be able to play with the rest of my life.
We need a real DAW on IOS
I feel exactly the same.
iOS already has more than enough synths, reverbs, granular effects, audio notepads, and sketch apps.
What I really need is a modern, actively developed DAW.
Something that gives the bug filled Logic Pro some competition.
What would make Zenbeats a ”real” DAW to you guys? What do you feel is missing or showstoppers?

Zenbeats ALWAYS sounded substandard to me as opposed to Cubasis , BeatHawk, GarageBand or especially the gold standard IMO Korg Module ..
What the heck does that even mean? "Sounded?" As in it doesn't make good sound? As in you never tried it but read all about it and it sounds like its features are substandard compared to other DAWs?
Is it not keeping up with BeatHawk, which hasn't been updated in years, is unstable as heck (in my experience), doesn't host plugins ... or GarageBand that doesn't even support AUv3 MIDI and has no Master FX, and that is pretty much static too at this point? Which of those are cross platform? And gee ... how often does Cubasis get updated? Not much more often than Zenbeats.
And how does comparing a DAW to a Synth / Rompler (Korg Module) even make sense?
I'm not saying Zenbeats is better than anything else. But c'mon, if we're gonna criticize something, shouldn't the criticism be meaningful and actionable?
Sorry for the rant.
Well said @wim! I like Zenbeats, but for me it does not feel as ‘streamlined’ as Cubasis. Loading times are pretty long, especially for projects with AUv3s (and a lot of those don’t scale well). And I think there are a lot of quality of life improvements for the UI that would make it much more enjoyable to work with. For me it has all the features I need, it’s just in the details of the workflow.
I should go back and see how I feel about Zenbeats these days. I haven't touched it much since Loopy Pro came along. At the time though, I greatly preferred it over Cubasis. I liked the workflow and could get things done in it better than any other DAW.
Beathawk and GarageBand aren't even on my radar. I just can't make myself use GarageBand for some reason, and Beathawk isn't useful for me other than as a sound module, but not even that much any more.
For me, a few things are missing to make Zenbeats feel like a real modern DAW: iOS clipboard and drag-and-drop integration, pinch-to-zoom, support for more than 8 external MIDI devices, song chaining, audio warping, Abtein audio link, and audio crossfades.
So if you got this, a bunch of other fixes that already are in the backlog, an updated UI, and the same efficiency that brings Zenology GX to iOS, Zenbeats would be a real DAW to you?
@MatthewAtZenbeats here’s the blueprint👊.

I would just like them to fix Zenbeats (iOS/iPadOS) broken MIDI sync when used with their own hardware... Both MC-101 and J6 will not sync properly (always one beat behind) whether Zenbeats is Master or Slave. Both hardware units sync perfectly on iPad with Logic, Cubasis, Gadget, AUM and GarageBand.
Have tried Roland support but they basically fobbed me off - have also asked @MatthewAtZenbeats but crickets...
I am a big Roland fan and own a lot of their hardware, as well as being a subscriber to Roland Cloud. Would love to be able to use Zenbeats with my mobile gear but need sync to work.
@Wim…No as in “It doesn’t really sound that good “…… as in “audio engineer needs reworking.. It just doesn’t sound crisp and as up to snuff as other sound sources.. Roland ZENOLOGY GX has received similar complaints as of late .
oh ok. It just needs a snufferizer on the master. Got it.
Do you think it needs to go all the way to 11? Or would that be overkill?
And there’s still the issue where the initial transient portion of drum samples gets faded in…
@Telstar5 I give it to you that both Zenbeats and Zenology GX have been on the quieter side. But, personally I rather have that than Moog’s Model D for example, that literally blast both headphones and speakers to pieces if not not being careful with the volume. The low volume issue is now fixed in the latest update of ZGX, and is reported regarding Zenbeats as well. I can only assume it will be fixed there too as all ZC1 sounds are Zencore.
I haven’t had an issue with this since I usually don’t mix at high levels because you quicker get ear fatigue and it is most often not necessary to get the results you want. Levels are gain-staged anyway and the issue goes away at the mixing or mastering stage. Quality-wise, the Roland ”sound” is what it is. YMMV and it can at times be perceived as ”muffled”, which I take is what you mean with it not being ”crisp”.
Lucky for us, we have a well of options and having sound sources that differ from each other is an advantage, they complement each other IMO.
Zenbeats has the option to become an even more powerful DAW on mobile, rivalling the competition. It’s literally all there to build on, and Roland is very aware of this. We are all waiting to see them push forward, and the release of ZGX is a clear signal that things are moving in that direction. I am sure that when ZGX settles down, focus will turn to Zenbeats.

By 2046 de-snuffers for that classic Roland 2020's sound will be all the rage.
