btw. the Scene module is unique among visual and shader editors on iOS. It’s like a processing.org style language built on Metal, where you can store custom state, and even build a playable game. Something that is difficult or impossible to achieve with pixel shaders.

ok, and is, or where is that documented?

    Yes, working on that.

@lukesleepwalker just paging you in case you didn't see my edit above.

Edit: more info; so the video demo above is just a single layer. I'm sure you can tell the image I posted first has two layers of this, along with a third layer depicting the "sun" effect. I also have one in my current project where I have a ladybug (emoji) flying around randomly.

I had missed the edit so thanks for the nudge. It looks GREAT. Now you've inspired me...

Thanks! I have a new, better version cooking that has a wider variety of flower types, I wider color palette, and now the flowers don't all face the camera (which would never happen in the wild).

Also added a bloom speed knob, and the stems now grow quicker when a MIDI note is received, but the flower bloom only starts on MIDI note release.

    YES!

Next idea, cooking on an adjacent burner, a procedural MIDI City Constructor! (I'm never working on a single project at any one time)

Built upon the same idea as the flowers, MIDI notes start a timelapsed building of a skyscraper going up. Velocity will determine which building type; high velocity = modern skyscraper, while lower velocities create parking garages and shorter apartment buildings... you get the idea.

Details include cranes, scaffolding, etc. Day night cycle will be working. Sun/moon etc etc

    Initial version 1.00

    Simply awesome.

I love that you've creating a whole world.

  • On my part I'm still in Fractal land and loving it.

Nice! I totally dig that cartoon-like texture. This would make an excellent anime background IMO

I seen it now, pretty lovely! Somehow reminds me of moebius (the comic legend, one of my favorites if not the absolute fave)

    Thank you.
Yeah the raymarcher is called Toon cell which gives it that comic/manga look.
When animators catch on to the capabilities of dRambo visual
we're going to have a swathe of storytellers creating with dRambo.

I've just looked up Moebius and agreed this piece certainly has that look.
Good company to be with. :)

  • Yes, I also thought of Moebius. Lovely palette, nice use of fractal exploration.

  • Very nice @Edward_Alexander!

Was it a choice to have the sun appear to be in front of the buildings or a technical limitation? Personally, I think it would be more effective if it were behind them.

I'm glad you asked. I'm still working on that lol

The sun is actually, according to the mixer layer, behind everything believe it or not. It's just the sun ray effect in the shader processor which is making it seem like it's in the foreground. I guess I went a little overboard on its effect.

I guess I could dial it back a little. I figured I might get away with saying it's shining through the windows? 🤣

  • This is cool as f!!!.

A suggestion in regards to the sun ray effect.
The Scene module can accept a Texture input so maybe you could try
placing the sun in the background that way or another way would be to use
Keying after the Scene module and mix it in using the visual mixer,
a suggestion only because I think what you've done is pretty damn cool.

  • Here's the sun without the sun ray effect. Btw, the sun ray effect isn't actually part of the scene. It's a shader that I added via visual mixer.

I was just thinking, maybe I could convince the LLM to write another version, without drawing any buildings in front of the sun. (I did have the density up rather high on this run.) That way I might be able to get away with the effect layer.

Anyway, like I mentioned, still a WIP. I just wanted to get something out there. I have other projects I want to work on.

  • @Edward_Alexander would you mind if I shared this over on the dRambo Facebook group?

Thank you 🙏 and thanks for the suggestions. I'm still exploring a few possibilities. The texture input is a great idea!
