GeoShred Play, Pro and Control are all the same app and we release all 3 simultaneously. The IAP to upgrade to GeoShred Play to the functionality of Pro simply turns on the Pro features. Note that Apple does not allow developers to convert one app to another, but we can upgrade GeoShred Play to the full functionality of Pro. After the upgrade, the launch screen will display "+ Pro upgrade"
Here is a comparision chart of the different versions (page 2):

Here is our FAQ about the upgrade:
http://www.moforte.com/geoShredAssets5.0/help/FAQs/#proUpgrade
Only for the single instruments, not for the bundle; the UK app store has the IAPs on £14.99 but the bundle on £69.99. The argument for becoming seventy quid lighter at a stroke is awfully compelling.
That is correct. The IAPs were accidentally visible for a few hours. We have submitted to Apple and are working through the app reviewer feedback.
Play can also purchase the IAPs and use each of the 10 presets/Geo-SWAM instrument. If you wish to create your own presets, use MIDI or AUv3, Play can be upgraded to the functionality of Pro.
Will it work to buy a single one to try the concept out and see if it fits, then still get the bundle deal afterward, or would you have to go all in from the outset?
This is probably a general iap question I guess rather than anything specific to geo/swam...
so your saying the new version of geoshred ( with swan instrument IAP’s ) was submitted to the app store? so it’s just waiting a day or two for apple to approve?
So, since SWAM is a small footprint to begin with, will be the difference between desktop and iOS versions?
I have had some GeoShred crashing problems with Cubasis in the past which leads me to thinking I will need to wait for the standalone. Anyone with similar thoughts?
Krupa, as much as we would love to support that, Apple does not give us any mechanism to "Complete Your Purchase". In our opinion, the IAP eCommerce mechanism in the app store is in need of some contemporary upgrades including "Complete Your Purchase", redemption codes for bundling with physical products, other types of sales/marketing mechanisms that have been common for the past decade on most other eCommerce platforms.
@LinearLineman, if you have crashing problems, probably best to contact us ([email protected]), we ship regular bug fix releases. We are most effective at fixing bugs when we know about them ;-)
The Geo-SWAM instruments are different than the standalone, which Audio Modeling is developing. The biggest difference is that the Geo-SWAM instruments are setup for the GeoShred Keyboard, and MPE controllers only.
I can't say, that is up to Apple. We will probably have to go through approval a couple times so that Apple can get comfortable with our marketing images.
Play can purchase the Geo-SWAM IAPs as well. If you find that you want to create your own presets, do MIDI/MPE or AUv3, then you can upgrade GeoShred Play to the functionality of GeoShred Pro. FAQ here: http://www.moforte.com/geoShredAssets5.0/help/FAQs/#proUpgrade
Thanks @moForte. Since I don’t have an MPE controller and use a keyboard I guess I’ll have to wait for the standalone. Curious, tho, how GeoSWAM will differ from the desktop version? Fewer parameters, not exactly the same level of sound?
Thanks for the answer, and I completely understand, Apple make some great products, but regularly don’t think things through from their customer’s and supplier’s perspectives, or they probably do and just don’t think they need to act in the way we’d prefer them to
Cheers!
Didn't happen last week... Hopefully this week...
Is there much reason to having the SWAM sounds if you don't have an MPE controller? For me that's why they're such a big deal - do you find a big sound benefit on a regular keyboard over other sampled instruments? I'm not trying to gear push, but I reckon you'd love an MPE controller, LinearLinnstrument would seem a very good fit.
Agree with this. If you're waiting for audio modeling's own app, but want to play it on a regular midi keyboard, you'll be disappointed. You would so dig mpe @LinearLineman despite its quirks and frustrations. These sounds only come to life with mpe. Geoshred can give you that on a screen, or an mpe keyboard. Audio Modeling's own app will be good for mpe or regular midi but will lack the touch screen interface that geoshred has. But it will be more tweakable.
It will be great for using with midi processors, or mpe keyboard, but midi keyboard use will pale in comparison to an mpe keyboard. If you want to make expressive sounds with these wonderful audio modeling sounds, you really will need an mpe keyboard. Velocity Keyboard will be a semi decent fix, but not an ideal one on various levels, despite what I used to think.
@steve99 @Gavinski, I can see what you’re saying. Maybe down the road. Is Velocity Keyboard an app?
I don't think people realize how much different a Seaboard is from a real piano keyboard.
Sure the Seaboard has extra features for glide, after touch and slide but many use mod wheels and pitch bend for many of those gestures. Some MIDI keyboards have aftertouch
but they are 3rd rate keyboards for a piano keybed.
I can't imagine what a piano keybed that adds the extra MPE feature might be like and who would pay $3,000 for one anyway. But maybe that's in the cards.
It's with mentioning that SWAM instruments ru with less storage needed and probably less
CPU/DSP resources because modeling uses CPU to run math and not schedule buffer management requests. Pianoteq has the best piano models and dozens of them can consume a few MB's of storage.
SWAM on IOS is a big deal... we've been waiting. Hopefully more will follow. PianoTeq
sells a product for Raspberry Pi's for fucks sake. Probably to recruit hardware vendors to
pair the two products and ship licensed instances for home pianos. They keep avoiding IOS
to keep the whole $159 for 3 pianos and not have an Apple split on the revenue. I'd pay the extra most won't want parity with the desktops.
Yes, it's a Blue Mangoo app. Be aware that it can not save state properly which is highly frustrating if you tend to use the scale layouts as I do, or sometimes use it for mpe and sometimes for single channel midi. Still useful if you can live with that extremely annoying aspect which at this point looks unlikely to ever be fixed.
Thanks @Gavinski. Interesting that on the video the Audio Modeling guy uses a Studiologic Sledge which has after touch. He used the mod wheel and expression pedal to control the sound. So, maybe MPE is good, but a midi keyboard can work, too.
Yes, I remember seeing them doing that, true, now that you mention it. Mpe would really seem to be the better modality though. Of course, that said, people like Hans Zimmer do a lot of their stuff on regular midi and it sounds amazing. I don't recall him playing or even mentioning any mpe devices in his Masterclass. One thing with mpe is that you can play a chord and do per note pitch bends, but that is not relevant to these SWAM sounds anyway, as they're mono.
I'm a bit confused , I thought Geoshred makes sense if not having MPE controller and the AU app for Seabord Block , or not?
@McD , have you checked out the Osmose by Expressive E? Seems like they might have finally got the mpe piano keybed right.
And by the way.... does anyone else remember when MPE stood for MULTIPLE polyphonic expression (instead of midi polyphonic expression which seems to be what is used now for some unexplained reason)? As in: multiple expressive channels on a polyphonic synth. As in: independent expression on each note being played. As in: MPE is only a relevant term for polyphonic synths. SWAM calling these monophonic instruments MPE is as weird to me as when Shockwave was calling itself MPE as a strictly monophonic synth. It's just one note being played.... unless you have a Linnstrument, and open multiple instances of Geoshred, and program them to be channel per row. I just think it's kinda funny that MPE basically just means 'has after touch' for most people these days. Or is that just me? It would honestly explain the "MPE support" in a lot of "MPE" synths being released
Unfortunately "MPE" mode in most ios synths is simply accepting midi in omni mode and have aftertouch. In some rare cases poly aftertouch
But it's not devs fault. MPE should not exist . All expressions could be done with RPN midi and not abusing all 16 midi channels
Hi, I don't fully understand this comment, what are you asking? Could you rephrase it? Cheers
Very fair point!
Would be nice if there was a polyphonic option
Sure,
I am thinking selling my MPE controller and use Geoshred wonderful GUI for Swam IAP.
If the standalone Swam AU have more expression then I'll keep my controller.
But if Swam AU can be used with 3d party virtual MPE controller there is no point in going for Geoshred IAPs and will also sell my controller .
I guess audio modeling would have to comment on that, but since it has already been said that the audio modeling swam app will accept midi input, it will surely also be controllable with things like Velocity Keyboard. Geoshred 5 swam sounds can also be played by Velocity Keyboard BTW. But I don't think you can get the same level of control from VK as you can with an actual mpe keyboard. Certainly the Audio Modeling app will be more tweakable in terms of sound than Geoshred.
Which 3rd party virtual mpe controller are you thinking of using?
I’m looking forward to both app options, using both the GeoShred touch interface and my MPE controllers with the AUv3.
I could choose one over the other, but I know ultimately I’d only be kidding myself.
