  • Making Drumcomputers great again :p

  • Surprised at the complaints about sound. Try dialing down the compression and saturation on the master maybe?

  • Give me a double time and half time button, and I'll break up with my girlfriend and buy a wedding ring for drum computer.

Bonus points for the free demo. IE: the real game changer. Every app should have this.

  • It really says something about the developers of iOs apps when I'm willing to use an Apple product to be able to use their products. The app store is a hot dumpster fire. Yet sugar bytes has figured out a work around. Wow!

  • You know, this is all making me think I can do this in Drambo. Not kidding.

You could build an 8 bit computer within a Minecraft engine within Drambo. Gonna be hard to do what Drumcomputer does within seconds of using it.

Genuine question - because I truly don’t know: Could one employ Drambo to create randomized voices per genre (character parameters of Snare, Tom etc) the way DrumComputer can?

To me this makes DC worth it alone: building kits by tapping on single voices and getting endless variations back WITH an ‘undo’ button that reverts said voice to previous version (this is Huge).

    (nah ain't paying 35€ for a cap)

That hat costs more than the app 🤯

I could have had Drum Computer, but all I got was this hat instead

    🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  • This thing’s a monster. Very deep. I spent a good part of the day with the app and the manual and there’s a ton more there. Don’t give up on this one thinking it doesn’t sound good or doesn’t do this or that. You’re probably wrong! 😎👍🏼

I didn‘t complain (it‘s free to try...) but I consider myself experienced enough to judge a synth engine without being trapped by loudness.
Tbh I was really surprised how „stale“ this sounded.
The sequencer auto-jam options are cool, but the generators/processors aren‘t my cup of tea at all. Stroke-Machine comes to mind as a counterpart...

    Haha.

I just don't love the sounds in Drum Computer, and I think if I persevere, I'll be able to import all my BM3 and iMaschine samples into dedicated Drambo kits. DC looks beautiful, but what it does naturally just isn't my sweet spot. I feel the same way about Egotist. I love it and I love its flexibility, but what comes forth naturally sounds like somebody else's music. (I'll probably pick it up anyway, and if the $26.99 was an intro price, I already would have!)

    Must investigate.

    Dang. And it's midi mappable.

  • can’t praise this drum computer enough.
i’ve been making some fantastic sounding sequences with this for the better part of the day.
what i’ve been doing to get started is just delete all the steps of a sequence, and put down a kick pattern first, about 3 kicks then give those a little pitch flavor to bring some movement. then add some probability but always have the 1 playing

then i’ll lay down 2 closed hat tracks (my favorite and most used drum) similar in sound but different enough to make it alive. between the two i’ll make a pattern that plays well with each other then go in and add some “roll” and “pitch” randomness from the seq page , immediately the hats get a new flavor... then a touch of probability

    then i’ll grab a clap/snare and do a simple pattern on the 3 .

once i have that basic pattern i’ll pin it in and either “make kit” or scroll thru the presets , not the main presets, but the individual sounds from the kit screen until i get sounds closer to what i want, as that happens save the sound in a slot then keep scrolling to the next drum for the rest

I wish the pitch and decay mod sliders in the sequencer were Bipolar. It seems like a massive oversight that you can't decrease those per step, only increase.

Just bumped into this... would be nice to take it into negative (Decay)... Maybe a Feature Request thread... Bank Presets IAP could be nice too..

Love this app.. Game Changer for me....

Good one. I feel like DC rewards a more is less approach. It's so cool what sounds you can achieve just by modulating a kick, esp pitch. Having a blast with some of the factory patterns just by soloing 3-4 channels making it much more stripped down.

  • Run thesys into dc - make the 16 pattern variatons/breaks or whatever - then get thesys to mess them up.

It just went semi Mills on some basic patterns.

    Gamechanger? Maybe not

    More low end!!!

def agree that more is less. the preset patterns are way too busy and designed just to show off sounds i think rather useable drums
i am a drum minimalist tho i’ve always felt like more movement on one sound and less sounds/clashing/chaos all at once is the way to go, and dc really can get you there!
    tame the beast

Yeah, I don't know if you're into techno, but I feel like Robert Henke's monolake stuff has this vibe. 3-4 perc voices max, often not traditional sounds like snares, cymbals, etc, but the kind of sounds that come out of drumcomputer. Lots of modulation on the small # of voices.

DrumComputer + Looperator is just obnoxious.

    Listening to Cap'n WIllie @iansainsbury ?

    And he's right. M(u)y goodness.

  • I’d like to trigger DC patterns in Zenbeats but the internal keyboard only goes down to C-1 while DC patterns start on C-2. Anyone know a way to make this work? I tried using KB-1 as a midi effect to trigger DC but ZB crashes.

@michael is this possible without creating a new profile?

Yep! Shall I do it now?

Yeah randomizing a voice to just output snares, or kicks would be simple enough. It’s just a matter of selecting the desired parameters to randomize, and setting minimum and maximum thresholds for their values. There are a number of ways to achieve this, but using a RNG or S&H fed by a manual trigger should do the trick. There are a number of modules you could use to scale or convert the randomized output including min/max modules, the graphic modulator and more. Of course, you’d have to do the initial patching and routing yourself first, but once that’s done you can drop those percussion templates into any project or track.
One major advantage of the Drambo method of randomization is that you can randomize your voices on any and every step, or every 4 bars for example. It seems like you can’t automate randomization from within DC.

I’m planning on doing a Drum Computer vs Drambo comparison video in time. There are some things like the resynth and formant filters which set DC apart, but there are even more features which set Drambo apart. I’ll try to highlight what they have in common though, and a few big things each one does differently. I think Drum Computer has a faster workflow at the outset, but my biggest concern with apps like these is that they tend to have a ‘sound’. That is, many of the play demos I’ve heard the last few days sound like Drum Computer, like Sugar Bytes, but not really like the person playing it. In those regards, I think coaxing ‘personal’ sounds and character out of DC may prove more difficult in the long run. I can’t speak for others, but I’ve never had an identity crisis with Drambo. IMO, by its design Drambo always ends up sounding like the person playing it whether they like that or not. The choices, parameters and modulations are much more deliberately selected.

Not to derail the thread, but here’s an example of randomizing an impulse generator + modal resonator for every hit. (Turns into a jam after about 30 seconds. This was a while ago). Could do the same thing with a snare device, toms, kick, etc. There's a couple more randomization videos on my channel, including one for mirack's modal synth.
