I'm not sure I think the comparison fits but point taken. It seems to me that this is to an iPad Air 2 what the iPhone 6 Plus was to an iPhone 5. That is, when the iPad came out it was a new category. I'm not sure the iPad Pro is a new category.
I'm not naysaying the product—I'm sure it's solid and it'll sell like hot cakes. I am saying that it doesn't turn me on. Like the first iPhone, first iPad, first Apple TV and first Apple Watch: it's underpowered. And what's on offer doesn't compel me to want to shell out for it when I think the Air 2 will suit me just fine. I'm not sure I'll ever want a larger iOS device but, of course, it all depends on what happens with the software.
One thing is for sure: there are only 24 hours in a day. If developers have to target this screen size, split screen sizes and iPad screen sizes, iPhone development is probably going to lose out.
I did some research on that topic before, and there are plenty of Surface Pro users and they mostly use it as mobile studio with DAWs like Studio One eg. But proper configuration for that kind of setup will cost a good money. So that's why I have now my Air 2 with basic configuration:)
I wonder, though, if the muscle of the iPad Pro heralds the coming of Logic Pro for iPad? If that happens, I'll find the money for an iPad Pro.
They should've announced Logic Pro for iPad with the announcement of the device itself. It would certainly have boosted sales for the device. that would have been something worth celebrating.
I've changed my mind, if this now turns out to be upgraded ram and all else works well, I might get the next iteration.
The Weiner Filter. It's huge.
At that point we would be at a Macbook Air level of cumbersomeness. I can already imagine walking into a lounge and hearing comments from the chicks..."excuse me, is that a bluetooth mouse in your pants, or are you just happy to see me?"
i was really expecting some kind of logic lite bundled together with Alchemy Player IF they gonna release an iPad"Pro".Yeah,well...they missed that beat as usual. But sometimes apple surprises and i still think there is a good chance that we'll see this later (Logic lite+Alchemy Player).
iLogic!
If this pad truly rocks the power of 80% of all notebooks sold within the last 12 months, there's no reason we can't have a full-featured Logic, optimized for iOS.
Isn't Garageband the same thing as a "Logic Lite"? Of course, what we currently have on iOS is a Garageband Lite, what would sort of be a "Logic Lite Squared", but anyway...
P.S.: we'll soon have Auria Pro with elastic audio (meaning "flex pitch" and "flex time"). Do we really need Logic for iOS?
I'm a bit tired of looking at the next new thing constantly. Its endless and next year we have another new device we only think we need.Im happy with what I have and just gonna wait for a tablet that can really replace a laptop with a full OS and an open file share system.
Only if we want something that's elegant, with a GUI that doesn't look like it was designed by a 70's ski lodge manager.
GUI of auria doesn't bother me, but I do know that the upcoming pro upgrade will have a different gui.
I'm all about the snow bunnies me....
no,not at all.For me at least. But Alchemy Player would be nice
I agree about how "the iPad is just a big iPhone" comments were wrong and I think it's the same here. The CPU and RAM (that started with the Air 2), and the screen size are game changers for developers. The catch is how well it sells to spark developer's interest. And I'm talking about iPad Pro only apps - not ports from the smaller iPads.
I was interested in the iPad Pro until I realized it has only max 128 GB storage, like my iPad Air 2. My iPad Air 2 is almost filled-up. Not only do I do multi-track music production, but I also do a lot creative photography, artwork and video animation on my iPad. That eats-up a lot of space. I was hoping for the iPad Pro to have at least 256 GB storage on the top end for me to need one. For generating artwork with the new Pencil, photography and video applications, I am very much interested; except for the limited storage.
What would happen if all our music apps were to automatically or manually back-up any data created in these apps to one's iCloud Drive? Automatically when it is plugged-in and recharging. A number of apps besides Apple's KeyNote, Pages, Numbers and iMovie already do this including: AudioShare, PixelMator, ChordPolyPad and probably more. Everyone who buys an iPad already has an iCloud account; so, why not make the most use of it. I sprung for the 200 GB extra iCloud storage for $3.99 a month. I store all kinds of extra loops, sound files, and MIDI files on my iCloud Drive that can be shared effortlessly, back-and-forth between my iPad, iPhone and Mac. Since Apple's philosophy is to not use USB to backup data onto external hard drives, and just go wireless; the iCloud Drive approach might be a good alternative.
It should have gotten USB C and 64/128/256, that would have been awesome.
But Angry Birds will look awesome on it..... (sorry, couldn't resist;)
Logic would work just fine on a mini retina or iPad Air 1 I think..
If one can run six tracks of Auria on iPad 1, why not lol
Maybe.... but how to load the over 50GB additional Logic content then. No way we see a Logic soon. I said it and i say it again. First we need to see a "full" garage band on iOS.
Been a longtime since I even touched a laptop, so desktop app sizes elude me
To be honest, I doubt Apple will release a full GB for iOS because they need the desktop customers..if iOS enables everything desktop OS does then their MacBook sales will decline
If Korg regularly update Gadget, and things like Nanostudio2 come out then we don't need logic etc
But if apple makes more money with iOS why they should bother about OS X then. But then i would have to go the windows route
You're right, there are (and there will be) some great DAW for iOS. But still far away from what a huge desktop DAW like Logic, Abelton Live etc. can do. Of course not everybody needs all the stuff.
I am/have been puzzled that GB hasn't been fattened up on iOS. Can only think it's a conscious gateway drug strategy on their part...
At the rate Apple takes the iCar will go 'Pro' before the iPad, it'll get MotoX OS, full velocity, accelerometer and be the fastest processor out, flat out 0-60 in 5 seconds.
The tesla S already does 0-60 in 3 seconds XD
I find it interesting that so many people want osx on the iPad. Ios is the thing that alludes me to the iPad. Snappy fast simple. I have osx and windows computers, and I enjoy using the iPad because they don't run these os's. Stable reliable and fast is what I love about ios. I don't think I would buy an iPad with osx, at that point I'd just use my laptop.
Its an interesting juncture where to some, it has become apparent that the Apple 'Vision' is somewhat blurry (or at least the perception of it).
My vision of the ipad and where it reaches (what i would perceive to be) professional maturity, always seemed to be just over the next horizon...
This is still the case (in my perception righty or wrongly) and i got 4 gens into the dream from a 3 to an air 2....
4 years on...the saga continues...
We'll see what happens next year when they announce iOS X. Maybe the right time for a more OSXish iOS or even one combined system a la Windows...
Right. The only thing that bugs me, is that some of the ports from desktop computers are gimped: they change less and you get less. The native iOS apps are fine.
