I have been using the Griffin StudioConnect audio/MIDI interface for my iPad; and have been very satisfied with the quality of sound. It really makes a difference over the headphone output of the iPad. I take the RCA stereo phone plug output to a small Behringer mixer; and It has a 1/4 inch headphone output. It provides power to the iPad indefinitely.
I think an external audio interface is essential for high-quality monitoring of stereo mixes from your iPad.
Here's an article on ANR where Michael, Sebastian and Rolf among others are talking about what they think about iPad Pro:
http://audionewsroom.net/2015/09/ipad-pro-mobile-music-apps-and-ios-9-qa-with-ios-developers.html
@Munibeast Thank you, that's a great article!
I think they are missing some of the possibilities with the iPad Pro. I hope it's adopted by some creative musicians that really show what is possible. If they buy it....the apps will come!
In homage, the iPad Pro, 'one small step for Apple, one giant iPad for mankind'
I think it's ultimately a good thing @Fruitbat1919
Especially since if they intend to market towards professionals and consumers with one iOS they will have to focus on making iOS more stable and more advanced to attract more high end software development.
Yes the more iOS gets into other professional markets, the more the music market may reap benefits.
My vision of what the kind of thing iPad Pros needs to do before i am tempted to get one...
...Just managed to setup onedrive for both my SP3 & (studio)PC on same account. I can now share & keep in sync across both devices whatever folders i like such as my samples, ableton live packs & projects etc...
This means (after some time intensive serious file/folder reorganisation syncing for hours etc) that i can now start a track in ableton on SP3 and finish it in the studio or vice versa just by syncing onedrive
Logic Pro X's most recent update incorporated a similar online sharing feature, not iCloud but third party provider, maybe for the future, sharing projects between iOS and Mac OS?
Is that this gobbler thing?
Yep, that's it forgot it's name, but at the moment it's intended for collaboration, I think, but for the future GarageBand, iLogic?
I have an iPhone 6 plus 128g
I have an iPad Air II 128g
I have a Macbook Air 13in 128g
I write, I draw, I animate, I design, I make songs, videos/editing and do photography on my idevices and transfer video/image files from my DSLR and GoPro all to my idevices. What is my Macbook for? Mostly, getting media in/off my mobile devices and organizing mundane stuff . Oh, and watching movies.
What do I want a Pro for? More real estate and more power for such great intuitive touch controls for video editing, animation, music creation and drawing/design application.
I'll wait before buying the Pro just to see what the DEVs come up with!

Graz from SonicState says that gobbler is free for now and that we should all create accounts while it still is
Thanks for the heads up, will be doing so ASAP.
Oops that's Gaz * Mr. Gaz Williams (damn spell check)

surface pro 4 is out next month isn't it? Rumoured to have a bigger display I think. I might be tempted by that.
Honest question: why Surface Pro? One can buy, and upgrade/max out, other Windows tablets for a fraction of the price
Is it the best in class? (Ie: windows tablets)
If some iOS developers would make some windows apps i would be in love with a surface pro 4 maybe. But how is the latency with the windows multi touch devices compared to iPads?
I didn't know
I think the iPad Pro should be very useful with apps like duet as a touchscreen for the mac.
Good point. You will have to use an external sound interface to achieve the same result and give up your mobility. This is exactly the reason why i choose for ios.Surface pro is more a replacement for your laptop/notebook.
Wonder if we might see Thumbjam for Windows? I think it would be cool on the Surface Pro.
Is the Surface Pro's built in sound a problem, I use my laptops headphone out on my ASUS, ASIO4ALL, no problem for portability, when needed my USB interface for better audio quality in and out, but it's the same for iOS.
No noticeable latency when im using ableton, I tend to use a combination of the pen for creating patches in Synthmaster and doing detailed work editing etc....and the windows (full) pop up on screen keyboard (that is multitouch) with all the shortcuts and Xotopad 2 beta for performing and playing in the drums & notes etc.
@DaveMagoo, what do you use as the sound driver? BTW I've got Sundog Scale Studio by Hauke, works well with Ableton, good for sketching out ideas.
I have Sunrizer & Z3ta +2 which are great and I'm tempted by Nave although its a lot more expensive. Also the Fab Filter stuff, SynthMaster Full version.....
Reason is quite easy on CPU, depending on usage, if you keep an eye on the KVR For Sale posts it can be picked up for quite a small amount when compared to the retail price.
