how much ram is in the new mini 4?
Nobody knows, 2 I guess
Pencil promo
I agree with a few earlier posters ... 4 GB of RAM puts it on a par with what used to ship standard on the MacBook Air just a year or so back, so my biggest concern is storage space. 128 GB on my iPad Air 1 ain't cuttin' it. I need at least 256 on my next iPad.
I'd like to have more than 10-15 songs alive and kicking in Auria (Pro).
Yes, storage looks to be the one area which is rather less than expected of something called Pro (I still want one though!).
Yeah, size does mater. Don't fully understand their strategic thinking behind this limitation. Let us guzzlers pay, why not?
256gb next year guys, the pro plus
Or MegaPad!
With the new contact power/data transfer, how soon do you think (if at all) 3rd party co.'s will introduce off-line docks with data storage?
Here's a pro plus tablet http://www.chemistdirect.co.uk/pro-plus-tablets/prd-h02
"helping you feel to more awake and alert" ^^
do we need more alarm in here?
I'm hoping my mind can be changed, but it doesn't seem obvious how the Pro would make sense for making music at the moment over other offerings. I can't see what advantages it offers over the Air 2 except for screen size, which might be good for 2x applications but reduces portability massively. The Air 2 is more than capable of running anything currently available without issue, and not all apps are even currently optimised for 64 bit or 2gb RAM never mind 4 gb. When compared to Surface 3 (or 2) or MBA for the price and size, those offer much more value for money depending on your OS preference for mobile music applications. The Mini 4 on the other hand might just be the sly dog for music if the configuration between screen size and power is right, the Mini 2 was a revelation for me when I got it, and now thinking the Mini 4 might be too if multitasking is useable.
Well, not to sound crazy, but this will open the door for the Pro Air and Pro Mini in the next couple of years. In other words this is probably the next iPad iteration which will be brought down into the other iPad form factors.
There is a reason the Pencil is being sold separately beyond simply improving the base price for the Pro.
With the 4 GB ram confirmed in XCode, I'm even more all in on this.
A lot of people seem worried this will suffer as the iPad 3 did, but I somewhat doubt it. it is quad core compared to the Air 2's tri-core, and a year further in chipset development, so I think it will definitely keep up with demand.
I do wonder whether I should offload my Air 2 though since this is also a very useful form factor.
IMHO, anything without external storage can't be really cosidered "Pro".
It's almost impossible manage several HR portfolios with only 128 Gb, imagine with video files...
Even as architect, I barely can load light version of my projects and documents.
There's a lot of money around cloud storage accounts, so I can see a team at Cuppertino thing which is best (for them): to pay for physical (internal and/or external) or cloud storage. Or both. I bet for the "both" option.
The sure thing is "if you want, you have to pay for".
I don't know, the basic 13" MacBook Pro is $1299 for 128GB, $1499 for 256GB.
I would like if they added a 256GB with its higher price, but people and the media would have been pooping their pants even worse than they are now.
I'm sure it will get the bump next year and everyone can poop their pants all over again.
Are the wireless passport drives not an option for many uses? 1TB drives cost £130 and are meant to last for 6 hours on one charge.
roflmao
Apple does offer iCloud Drive. I opted for the 200 Gb for $3.99/month. They also offer a 500 Gb and 1TB option. AudioShare and BeatHawk ditectly connect to iCloud Drive. I am surprised that Apple does not encourage all app developers to adopt this storage option. If they would also support wireless hard drives, that would be great.
I thought I read that iOS9 would allow for a lightning to USB cable to connect your iPad to your Mac and transfer files directly (non-iTunes?). That would be a way to offload files on the iPad, back them up on a Mac, and retreive them at a later date. I might be getting this wrong.
Ok. I was talking from my spanish perspective, where wireless performance are far away from what other countries offer.
Who will be the first to make a velocity sensitive drum app using two pencils? Haha maybe @IKMultimedia and they'll also make 3rd party pencil/drumsticks
If air 3 comes out in October I'll be aiming at getting that eventually. Have no need for 13" display as much as more ram.

That's great news. Also waiting for the air 3.
The key word is "if" - I very much doubt there will be a new Air this year.
Maybe it's the first 3d touch iPad to be? spring Next year
With a 128GB iPhone 6s at $849 and 128GB 6s Plus at $949, I can safely project there will definitely not be an Air 3 with 3D touch coming in this year with the current 128GB Air 2 price being $699, besides the fact Apple won't try to undermine the iPad Pro during its launch year, this is obviously part of their plan to create more demand for the Pro this year.
Before audiobus I was waiting for a way to connect apps, then for multi-routing, then to be able to run many apps at once. Now that I can do all this the only thing I'll be actively waiting for is a supertight clock sync, be it on one device or/and between devices,
I'm not here for the carrot but for the love of music

Agreed. that and the Nanny OS limitations cutting you off from quickly loading whatever you want into whatever else you want. The whole architecture was based on 'consuming content' as they said in the early days. Totaly not the ideal platform for PROductivitity with maybe the arguable exception of digital painting.
What i would like to know is also how the sound is compared to the smaller iPads. F.e. when i plug in my headphones in my macbook it sounds great even without additional sound card, audio device and/or headphone amp.
The iPad (and iPhone) sounds a bit thin here.
So i really doesn't need an audio interface or headphone amp for my notebook while i would need one for an iPad if i want to do a proper mix via headphones (which i always do since i have no other choice).
Great point !
I send my audio through iconnect and then through an external soundcard to my headphones..
It does sound thin through the iPad DAC
