Cheers @rkmonkey Glad you liked it, especially the last wee section. The drums are (all 4 parts) from Cubasis. I tap 'em out live on the pads then adjust & compress a tad. Think I may get RDM soon & have a play with that. Yeah, the vocals have been a problem area this month for me & I need to work on them in the new year to find that sweet spot both in volume & tone. Thanks.
@JohnnyGoodyear Thanks & yes there is quite a bit of reverb on the vocals, especially on the last part so that could well be the issue here. Once this man flu decides to vacate & these old lugs become clearer, I'm sure I will remix them.
I will pass on the old BS site to my bro-in-law who spends a lot of his year working not too far from Austin as, from your description, THIS place would be right up his strasse. No fuss, just a good time. Yep, you've got to cherish & support these full of old charm character ale houses. I remember (ish) when The Roxy (or was it The Vortex) closed its punk doors, that it would be the start of the end of that era of "anyone can do it" punk.
Cheers again.
Thanks @Jocphone Haha, yes, I'm off to the Post Office this morning to collect me pension. As its wet (again) I'm still undecided whether I should wear my pinned black bin liner shower proof jacket or something that is more fitting for my age. Sod it, the bin bags it is!
Let's see where 2016 takes us all musically. That is the real exciting thing for me about all this. Listening, appreciating & learning from all SOTMC efforts & hopefully then banging out something that I probably wouldn't have before. I feel some reggae/punk flowing through my cholesterol filled arteries at the mo. Yippee, onto the next one! Cheers again
No worries @Bluepunk but that wasn't a review just an observation that I liked the original being a bit harder.
Sounds like you're up for a bit of SKA..?
Yes indeed @Jocphone I love all the music from that era & how it all seemed to fuse together rather nicely. Maybe some SKA or, if I can get my voice to sound harsher, I'd like to re-visit some of The Ruts stuff as I think they managed to pair reggae & punk very well. Out of all those musicians that died far too early, Malcolm Owen was the geezer that I thought could have gone onto making brilliant, unique (still with a punk flavour) music. Was that really 35 years ago.............. Thanks kind sir
@bluepunk def. ska for you Mister. Look forward to hearing that. I think if you can persuade the Santa-person to do the needful RDM might fit well in your ripped Christmas stocking....
Yep, cheers @JohnnyGoodyear I will defo try to give it a bash in the new year as it will be a lot of fun. Oh yeah, that RDM is gunna get some serious tub thumping from me! If Santa is ultra kind & with the help of that new Geo Shred, a possible solo by this time next year!
Usual horror:
@monzo Had to get up early this morning (too early) to play racquetball and found this a) shocking to the gentle dawn and b) a perfect 'boxer-walking-into-the-ring' soundtrack.
I'm gonna absolutely kill him.
Also reminded me of three months I spent in a particularly disturbing Texan rehab center.
Both compliments.
my kind of horror:)
Great title. Horror, yes, in all the good ways for my scrambled brain.
Thanks guys it's a bit of a mess, even more than usual, but I enjoyed doing it and trying out some new toys (Auria Pro, Kuvert, TC-Data, Nebulizer). As you can probably tell, that's @JohnnyGoodyear 's vocals half way through, courtesy of the Poseidon sample mangler update.
@Bluepunk Haha! Nice one dude! U can really hear in your songs that your having fun and that you kinda can't believe that you've found a way to get these ideas out of your head and presentable using your iPad.Its infectious! I thought the second track vocal volume was much better although I still struggled to pick out a few words here and there.Im not sure if more overall vocal volume is the answer or just a bit more compression so that only the quieter words get louder? Anyhoo...I enjoyed the lovely angelic rendition of silent night at the beginning...you have a very "Aled Jones" quality to your voice!! ;D haha! Merry Christmas mate!!
my mess for the month..... Nothing clever to say...
@rkmonkey HEY Jingle Bells AND Uke Brilliant (and nicely done there at the end).
Truth is I don't like the 'lead'/melody sound on this, purely personal, doesn't do it for me, and I think or feel the drums could/should be more ballsy somehow, BUT -and having gotten my negatives out of the way- I really like the backtrack, especially as it keeps moving on. A bit savage and urgent and what the hell is that noise anyway? Perhaps weirdly there was a chunk about two thirds of the way in that made me feel you had channeled some speed-and-hammer version of an unreleased track from Bowie's 'Young Americans' sessions.
Thanks for the comments and feedback. A struggle to say the least. The backtrack is layers of shit in Auria pro. The more basic version is heavy brass mostly but sounded too clean. Couldn't come up wth any vocals so added geoshred lead/scream. Still trying to figure out how best to add punch to Lyra drum kits.
Thanks @LostBoy85 you're absolutely right. I can't believe that this time last year, I had tons of ideas, lyrics etc but cos of the non guitarist issue & was clueless about iOS music, I thought they would remain in my mangled brain forever (I wish they would, I hear you all say)! It's a small miracle to me that now I can at least push some kind of punk out.
I really need to start understanding about compression, what it does, how to use it & when. That's one of the many great things about this forum. People have the time, knowledge & good hearts to share their "Shinning lights" of wisdom to help others in improving on all aspects of iOS music making.
Haha, Aled Jones on wiz I think! A Merry Christmas to you as well. Thanks again.
JG scurries off to the airing cupboard whimpering "Aled Jones on whizz....."
@rkmonkey Acute, pressing urgent with a melody that like it or loathe it, makes you stand up & take note of it. I had a picture of running to catch a bus. As I approached, it pulled away grinning while shoving 2 fingers up to me. So I ran to the next stop & the process was repeated. Off it sped again! I gave up & phoned a taxi.
Lyra drum kit? So you're playing live drums, you play very well. Nice snappy snare & I understand about filling them out more. Are you recording them straight into the internal mic? Very interested cos it may force me to drag my old kit down from the back of the loft.
Thanks for the feedback. Like the analogy. Drums are midi in Auria pro and not played live. My drum kit is long gone. Cheers!
I'm still working on feedback, will post soon
Ah, great to see you back with YOUR music & I will be listening to your track tomorrow as I'm staying with me old mum for Christmas & she's forcing me to watch a new version of The Sound of Music tonight. I know I'd rather be spoiling my ears with your stuff but you know how it is. Have to share my time. I'm just praying that this new version has Julie Andrews giving it some hard core attitude when she sings The Hills are alive..............
Haha yes, that would be an interesting combination. I got it wrong t'other night. My bro in law works in Arlington, not Austin, sorry. I must have had too big a hit of Aled Jones!
What! Has Auria got Lyria drums included? That snare does sound incredibly real. Mmmm!
Lyra is the new midi sample player in Auria Pro.
Ah, I've got it now, I'm a bit slow. My fingers would enjoy crunching a beat out on those pads! The whole set up looks delicious. No wonder Auria pro has such great reviews. Thanks for the pic, although my wallet probably wont!
This is a great dance track Sir @monzo Starts with some nice jingly Christmas type bells then thrusts me onto a dance floor from 2032 with an almighty jolt. On this Christmas Eve morning you had me gyrating foolishly around me mums with headphones.
"What are you dancing too son?" The future mum, the future. What the hell is that noise at the very end? Sounds like my dogs after a sesh on the sprouts! Very accessible, but I'm not sure you want to hear that. I loved it.
My December contribution... I dug up a track I did for a Christmas compilation of Memphis bands in 2009. Imagine elves jamming with Brian Wilson:
"Christmastime Lalala" by Graham Burks

Oh Holy Crap: A Very Makeshift Christmas by Makeshift ChristmasMerry Christmas dudes! I hope you all have a great time!
