iMPC Pro just updated with Link.

I've noticed that dearly and the released version of iMPC Pro is so full of bugs I wonder how much they paid Apple to push it thru a review. 'Sample Locators' are misplaced when loading a sample, pressing 'Audition Left' in the sample editor kills the audio-engine and renders the app very unstable, and that's just the tip of the ice-berg. The previous version was somewhat useable. So it's a bit ironic that the description states "Various other bug Fixes" when in reality there is even more bugs in the released version... (Tried all the usual suspects, reinstalling the app etc. no go).

Wished I'd seen your post first. It's a real mess now.

Same. Premature download. I got excited and updated iMPC Pro too early. What a mess.

  • It is so nice recording Fugue machine notes into Gadget this way.

  • Elastic Drums and LP5 work well together. Just got to remember to switch off Link in ED after a session, so it is ok when started up next time.

I wonder when other developers are going to get access to the Link SDK. not just our favourite devs from Germany :)

Who are the favourite devs from Germany?

    First of all, YAY!

Second, will LINK be available to other desktop DAW developers, or is Abelton keeping it just for LIVE?

Though, not sure it matters since there is Alexandernaut's LINK to MIDI app. Double YAY!

  • OMG!!!!!!
(Pulls hair running out of excitement and runs into wall, feeling nothing!)

    ROCK ON!!!

  • This is so good for jamming out ambient stuff:

  • I just tried it with Gadget and Elastic Drums (in Auria as a"Mixer" and just parallel running without any other app involved) and while it starts/stop or connect without a problem,it's definitely not tight.ED runs behind.Unfortunately not usable for me like this. Will test a little more later...

  • @gsm909 great find from a great developer.

I'm gonna guess that it will be for Live only. That way people will buy only Ableton Live. Maybe later, they may license it out to other companies.......... Or............ The other companies will design there own version.... But we all will see where this goes?...
But I'm with you on......... " Yaaaaayyyyyyyyy!"........

  • This is BIG! Thank you very much all devs.

  • A true milestone reached. Thank you.

  • A few teething troubles, but I don't think we can underestimate how big this will become.

  • I wonder if this is a "Big Toe Dip in the water" for Ableton? If it's a huge success, I love them to make an "Ableton Live Mobile"...... With the warp technology in Auria now a reality..... Imagine pasting a sample from Audioshare into the DAW automatically time stretches & syncs to BPM in your track( the same a the Desktop).....?? Nice thought I suppose? But hey............ "yaaaaaayyyyyyy!".....

  • Am I the only one running into gadget crashing on launch here? On both iPads gadget won't even load after updating to the latest version :-[

  • Sorry if someone already mentioned it. But this works really well with AB remote as well!

  • Ilectribe and elastic drums don't seem to work together at all either. Pretty frustrated after all the hype.

Same here but the two work together inside Audiobus.

  • By the way, the iaa panel of elastic drums is obstructing menu and play options, you noticed, @Munibeast?

  • Gadget works after reinstalling.

Afair that does mean i would lose all my presets because i can't backup them. Not an option for me unfortunately and i'm not gonna do a full restore of my 128GB pad for that purpose, lol.

I'm going to see what I can do with LINK to MIDI, Studiomux and Cubase

LINK disable all other sync options like CLOCK, but CLOCK is using in so many apps....
is it possible to use the LINKed BPM to send these BPM as CLOCK to another app who have NO LINK?

You should be able to use a link enabled app as a midi master for external devices or other apps. But you cannot use it as a slave, because that messes with the whole concept.

@Sebastian So does this mean that I can use a LINK enabled DAW (when it comes out), and use its transport controls to control everyting that is LINK enabled? For example, if I press record on my DAW, everything starts? If I hit rewind on my DAW, everything rewinds to the beginning and is ready for me to press play again?

  • I gather that AB acting as a master control is only applicable on the same device, or is there a way to do this across devices?

  • WoW, great first hour of link EXP Live session and i am impressed. Thx.

Use ipad air2 with gadget / modrum /ikaossilator in AB Link to
Iphone 5s with alexanders "Link to midi" app.
    this syncs over Midi clock
    Modrum / drumjam / loopy
You could set the the launch quantization from 1/16 to 8Bars in "Link to Midi" look .png
And could trigger the startpoint (the one) of the synced apps (mo/dj/loopy) where you want....yippiii

  • I've never been into Ableton, it's just not my cuppa tea I guess, but Link is simply frickin' amazing. Tried it with Fugue Machine and Loopy HD on the same iPad and it worked like a charm. Can't wait to add Patterning to the game in a couple of days. If SamplR gets Link-support with the next update....well, then I'll be in heaven. :)

  • wow doesn't get any easier than this. I hope the sdk will be available to other apps on pc and mac and other mobie devices at some point.

  • No quantization when stopping is a huge oversight, and ultimately a major flaw. Expecting users to stop everything on time on their own without quantization is asking too much.

Ableton said they wanted to bring that same timing an acoustic band has to electronic music, but then they don't offer the proper tool to do it.

With so many involved, how did this get missed?

damn, wish I had seen this as well!
this is worse than damn, this is vandamn!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was experiencing those same types of 'Audition Left/right' errors before the latest update. Another irony with Retronym's latest release is that they failed to include the long awaited Akai MPC desktop export. Instead, they released an update that bolsters one of Akai's chief rivals. Ableton's Push 2 has stolen the thunder of Akai's new MPC Touch and is poised to become the leading integrated MIDI production controller.

It's up to the individual developer to do this. They have all the information they need.
