@BvsMV Hey man,thanks very much,however I can't take credit for the music on this one.A friend of mine makes backing tracks/beats semi pro.He let me have a go with this backing track.I just wrote the song/melody.He uses Logic Pro for everything though,I know that much.cheers again mate!
P.S.: just read you actually went for a blurry sound, so it seems you're in the right track after all. Just a few more dB for the bass and the drums, and it will be really a great "dream-pop" mix. Congratulations again for the song, a good one.
Hello there,
Here's my last creation :
It has been done on an Ipad pro, sequencing with Cubasis.
I also used Imashine 2 and patterning for drum parts.
Vocoded voice has been done with a Mininova, and choir voices effect with a VoiceLive Touch. I recorded the 2 basses with the Mininova and an Analog Key from Elektron.
Finally, I reinjected the finished track into Korvpressor to make it more punchy.
Hope you'll enjoy
Edit : hmm seems we are in february, but should I wait to see the "official" february post to give the link ? New comer here...
Welcome to the Club @crony I'm glad that you snuck your tune into January because it means that we may get to hear another one this month. I look forward to that!
Great start with that wobble & crackle to announce the arrival of those very good plodding (in a good way) effective & perfect drums. You've done a fabulous job with the vocals & I especially enjoyed the part 0.55 to 1.01 where it bends up to the "over extended" part.
Then how it gently rises from 1.35 to 2.20 to that ear splitting air raid siren sound. Love it!
Thoroughly fond of your song sir.
Thanks for your comments @Bluepunk
I'm actually listening to all other tracks, very long, I know it's not cool not giving feedback, and so far, here's my comments...
@rkmonkey - Ten Years:
Production is quite okay, but voice is really out of tune to me.
@Jocphone - Purpose jolts the thistle:
Production is quite nice, but too much saturation, and not so evolving, too bad, it finishes by bore a bit...
@Igneous1 - Object:
Prod a bit 90' , sound is clean, but theme is messy.
@achromus - Bottomless:
Liked it, poetic and sweet, warm sound, too bad it's a bit too long OMHO.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 - Adventure:
Nice production also, interesting beat, but it does not stay in my head.
@High5denied - Peaceful Chaos 2.0 at Zertrainia:
Peaceful ambiant track...Not that much to say...
@BvsMV - We've Come So Far (To New Beginnings):
One of my favorite, with a nice evolution, but still a bit messy to me.
@hellquist - Timeless:
90' pads, nice, but very simple.
@orchardman - Hollow:
Sorry, voice is hard to me...
@theconnactic - Fiesta:
Good guitarist, but the mix sounds a bit weird to me. Love the bass solo part the most.
@rickwaugh - Changing Times:
Very complex piece, very interesting in harmonics, but still looks like too much a "demo" to me.
@crouchie - Just Me and Bill:
Production is fine, up tempo, it's okay.
@aaronpc - Blotto Staccato:
Like this one ! Interesting sounds, nice harmonic progression, my favorite of the month !
@LostBoy85 - Demons:
Very clean voice and beat, too cluby for my hears, but nicely done.
@TGiG - NiK0lA:
Interesting progression, too much saturation in the mix for me, too bad, as the sounds are really crazy Then it ends up in too much stuffs.
@ecamburn - just return:
Nice beat, but so much repetitive...
@Bluepunk - My Library is Closed:
Yeah punk ! The only thing that does not fit for me are the drums, too clean, but except for that, it's nice !
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 - Best not to Look:
Like this one better ! More coherent in the progression, love the infra bass.
@touchconspiracy - The crystalline level -clip:
Liked this one also, the production is very clean, and love the harmonic progression !
@crouchie - Knot:
Very nice beginning, love the voice really, too bad too muh saturation in some sounds even the pad. But one of my favorite also this month...
@richardyot - Days:
Hmmm, pop songs are okay, but production needs more work, voices are out of tunes...
@gburks - Golden Spiders:
Nice tribute, a bit messy sometimes.
@JohnnyGoodyear - Bane:
Sweet poem, like the voice, piano a bit overmixed for me.
Sorry, it's a bit expeditive, but arriving at the real end of the month...Hope you won't take my comments in a bad way, just tried to be sincere, really.
@crony Thank you for your feedback on my tune & well done on listening & commenting on everyone's songs in January.
After your colossal effort it would be a shame if peeps didn't read your comments on their songs so a wee reminder to add the "@" in front of their names so they can pick them up when they sign into the forum.
@crony said.
Thanks crony. What does "too much saturation" mean? Too bright? Too distorted?
Sorry if I bored you Thanks for listening!
@crony, you forgot to review one of my songs: I'm upset!
Lol, thank you for the feedback and the compliments to my playing. All the best!
@crony, thanks for the comments on my tune. Yes, it needs a bit more ummpph, to make it grab you more. Next months is in the can and ready to go, and I think it's a large improvement in that department.
Great sounds in your piece, excellent production. I also love the static in the intro, really grabs. Rhythmically, I always want more out of this style of music, but I understand that's not really what electro is about. Voice is great, but would be nice if it was a touch more understandable.
P.S.: @crony, loved your song. I have a weakness for vocoder sounds: going to investigate the possibilities of mininova soon. To the mix to really shine, perhaps you could add more definition to the low end with some EQ cuts. Nice entry. Keep it up!
I meant too distorted, but I first listen your track using a JBL bluetooth speaker, and it didn't handle all frequencies and distorted the bass much more. With headphones I can understand it's an esthetic purpose, but still think it's a bit overmixed or saturated at some points. (between 3:52 and 4:44 for instance)
If you check your master level, I'm almost sure you're banging the red 0db all the time.
Hehe, I felt the same thing for the second track, too me it sounds like a remix of the first one...
You're right, I'm going to redo the voices to make them more understandable...About rythm, I also agree, but for this track I really wanted something quite simple, very efficient, because of all synths sounds going around...I was affraid to make the mix too messy, but I should test some drum tricks... > @theconnactic said:
I'll defenetly try the EQ to see how it goes...
Thanks for all your feedbacks !
Ok that makes sense. I don't do a lot of listening outside a decent pair of headphones and the iPad internal speakers. It does get a bit blustery on the iPad speakers. I do like a good bit of distortion but don't want to make the listening experience too unpleasant on speakers that can't handle the bassier frequencies.
Thanks for the feedback.
@crony cool track, love the vocoder at the beginning and in the verses, very rich sound. Nice production, and definitely an edge to the song, especially in the section with the one-note buzz synth in the middle. Chorus section very edgy too, and contrasts nicely with the verse (although for me the verse section is much stronger).
@crony Welcome mate! thanks for the feedback.I was really impressed with your track.I don't think we've really heard anything like it on Sotmc yet.Theres some very technical wizardry going on it.Are you singing or sampling a song? Either way,it's very cool! Congrats on a great first entry!
@LostBoy85 , thanks for your feedback and welcoming
It's all singing by myself.
The voice live touch hardware effect helps a lot achieving the magic, then effects into Cubasis to polish them are great.
This is my second track using an Ipad, (using classical software/hardware sequencers for very long before...) I still miss a bit the mouse and some easy drag'n'drop shortcuts, but the hardware and workflow since Ipad Air 2 starts to be really okay now...
Ok I have late homework. I know it's overdue but my mother always said better late than never.
@crouchie Ahh such a refreshing departure from the "more common" tracks. And I don't mean just in SOTMC, all music. Yes, as someone noted earlier it is reminiscent of the streets but it somehow seems mo relatable to me. So cool! Thank you, I love it!
@aaronpc Where to begin? This song by miles is head over heels my absolute favorite song entry. In fact it's the best song I've heard in 2016! Every instrument, every note, every nuance, every turn is perfection to me. I've listened to this song so many times grinning ear to ear. I love the twitchy drums, I love the breakdown at 28 secs with the whistling(?) sound, the eerie organ that goes from a depressing to inspiring tone at 1:26 is just blissful! Outro, spot on. I even love looking at the pic you have up, the nice bright colors except for one little black pixel. I'm not sure if that was intentional. I'm not sure if I sound like a freaky weirdo, but I am a huge fan of your work! Thank you and keep it up!
@LostBoy85 Wow what a happy, upbeat song! The vocals are very, very dominant in a good way! Are you singing? If so, bravo! It sounds great. My favorite part of the vocals is at 1:57 when they kind of jump up and down. Well done!
@ecamburn Man, honestly I had no idea where this song was heading. Obviously I enjoyed the intro (was that a hang drum?) but then I was thrown off by the next part. I felt a bit apprehensive and then the music just swept me away! Whenever the hang drums surface it really solidifies the overall tone and feeling, which is good! I dig it, thank you!
@Bluepunk Last Sunday I had a song stuck in my head. I couldn't remember what it was, then I finally remembered a single word "Librabry"! It was this song! I grew up listening to punk and I absolutely love this song, it's so great! The nasty bass, ripping guitar, the fills and high hats by the drums, the gnarly vocals...man soo good! Thank you!
@theconnactic Amazing guitar but you already know that! I particularly like the bass tones, the breakdowns, and the organ(?) keys at the end! Very psychedelic, I totally love this song!
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 Dude, I love it! Such an interesting tone. Are those your vocals? I really enjoy the basses especially the right at 3:00. Those evolving tones are sick too! I totally dig this one!
@touchconspiracy A man after my own heart! I absolutely love this song! From the bombastic intro to sexy 90's vocal hits to the random textures, this song I have to say it is one of my favorites! Very, very good. I can't wait to hear what's next! Thank you!
@crouchie As this is my first SOTMC and I never opened soundcloud, I actually don't know what most people on this forums music sounds like. Naturally since "Just me and Bill" was the first track I heard from you, I had a certain expectation. This second song far exceeded that already high expectation! This is such an enjoyable song! So many qualities. The lead vocals are inspiring, the backing vocals are angelic, the bass is so moving and all other elements just mesh so well. I really, really love listening to this track, well done!
@richardyot The fist section of the vocals set a certain tone for me. And honestly it wasn't a positive tone. But that because it reminded me of someone very famous and very talented that I personally don't care but most people do...sooo technically it IS a compliment but just not my cup of tea. BUT! That was just the beginning! Once you got to the chorus I instantly perked up! I had to rewind it and start it over. Then I got it! I totally love it! I really love the chorus, it reminds me of The Kinks and I love The Kinks! The guitar solo is also perfect! Did you do that? Very good. I really enjoy listening to this one!
@gburks Take a bow! Job well done! Not only is this song such a great listen, it's for a great cause! That's so rad! Not to mention this is a great tribute to add to the SOTMC collection. Nice! I can't imagine the process of creating this song especially with the apps you mentioned, I'm sure it took some work! So much fun, thank you, thank you!
@JohnnyGoodyear Dude. You know. This is so true. So raw. So original. So perfect. You know what you're doing! I love it!
@crony Holy shit! Where did this come from?! Clearly from another dimension! As soon as the first vocals came up I was floored! The chorus is phenomenal! I've listened to this song on repeat all day! Bravo! Thank you
Yes I know this is now last month. In my defense I met an incredible woman who has occupied my waking thoughts since the start of January and have had little time to devote to anything SOTMC as a consequence. So my January's song didn't get sung and I fear February's may suffer too. Life is sweet
So, this will only be a quick run through and I will only have heard many of your songs once as there are so many again.
@rkmonkey - Ten Years:
Damn! thought I was going to be first this month! Love the opening sense of urgency. Can't hear the words as much as I'd like to. Strays a bit out of pitch but that didn't seem to matter gives it a bit of a live feel and I like the way it is sung. The percussion is great and and there are some interesting things happening with the bass but I had a hard time picking that out to. Like the deconstruction at the end.
@Igneous1 - Object:
Igneous you make lots of great little passages strung one after another but I never seem to get the overall picture. This is accomplished as ever and I did get a little more progression in the second half with the track gradually becoming more mellow but I am always left feeling something else should have happened. It's great music but needs to say something. That could be me though.
@achromus - Bottomless:
I like how this track sits in the air for the first third or so. The repeated refrain that comes in here is a little strident but as others will atest, I like that and the subtler variations work nicely. Overall I found it engaging but did think it may benefit from a slight reduction in length as it occasionally got a little too repetitive and could have been tightened up. Dug the atmosphere of it.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 - Adventure:
I'm really enjoying listening to this one Matt. I think it has more of a return to the invention that was a trademark of your earlier SOTMC entries. That little scream half way through caught me unawares. There's a track on the recent Tricky album that does the same thing and that had the same effect. Love it! This is one track that would bear multiple listens. It's understated and beautiful in less obvious ways. I would just say though that there is a repeated three note refrain trying to bust out which I would have liked to hear developed.
@High5denied - Peaceful Chaos 2.0 at Zertrainia:
Didn't experience any major emotions around this one. It was kind of nice to have on in the background and the notes chosen were interesting enough to keep it speaking but I would have liked something else. Just not sure what
@BvsMV - We've Come So Far (To New Beginnings):
Wow interesting track. I enjoyed how the snare takes up the lead, kind of grabbing the mic for itself. That mixed with the unresolving melodies makes it a slightly difficult listen in some senses but I found it challenging and interesting and full of possibilities.
@hellquist - Timeless:
I had to listen to this one twice because I got distracted (sorry). It's a nice enough track, nice melody, the textures work OK together but I had a hard time focussing on it and felt it could have brought something else along with it.
@orchardman - Hollow:
There's the makings of a good songs in here orch. Your wife has a good singing voice and the tune works well for this. The guitar solo has a nice disruptive quality when it enters but feels like it sticks around a bit too long. There are some good variations after the guitar solo too. Overall though it doesn't feel like all the parts are in the right order somehow and the unchanging, slightly stiff drums don't really help.
@theconnactic - Fiesta:
What an unusual track for SOTMC this is! I found the underlying dancey track a bit Eurovision and generic but your guitar playing definitely rescued it. I especially enjoyed the slightly discordant section near the middle and you have great feel which made the track feel quite live.
@rickwaugh - Changing Times:
A really pleasant listen. The guitars were well placed/mixed against each other and had a nice musical/harmonic quality. I especially liked the sections with a high harmonic note and some of the later variations. The faster runs could have done slightly tighter timing and much less echo as this made it sound a little confused. My only other crit might be that it if it was to reflect lifes changes it could have done with a bit more drama. But then maybe your own life isn't like that so much
@crouchie - Just Me and Bill:
Very entertaining crouchie. There was very much a touch of laid back Scroobius Pip, with the clever lyrics and delivery. Nice that the music became the narrative at times as well.
@aaronpc - Blotto Staccato:
Insistent from the start, I loved the pacing on this. It's a great tune that carries me along with it. Loved the initially slightly ambient percussion which in places almost sounded like field recordings and that slightly muted and cutoff bell like noise is delicious. It almost feels like it's trying to stop time. Great stuff, loved the progression and drama of it all.
Well that's the first half done, a great listen as always and I will get onto the rest soon.
@Jocphone @crony @TGiG
Thanks for the wonderful comments, guys! And everyone else this month. I've been needing help to get off my ass and back to making finished products again, and this has been the shot in the arm I was looking for. I don't know if I'll be contributing every month (I'm pretty meticulous) but the ice has been broken.
@Jocphone well I expect more, not less, inspiration from the new turn in your life
Ha ha! Early days..
@Jocphone, thank you so much for the review and compliments!
Hey, @TGiG! Did you listen to Fiesta or Treta? I Assume it was Fiesta, because Treta ends with a hard-rock guitar riff. Well, if we are talking about the same thing, it's not an organ, but a simple sound I made with two detuned sawtooths, then recorded it through a cheap compressor and my RAT guitar pedal. Thank you for the review and compliments!
@Jocphone Limerence is the gun's one true grease.
@TGiG Thank you very much for such a positive review. Glad you enjoyed it so much & something from the song stuck. Cheers.
@Jocphone thanks for the comments. I try and veer away from making anything that is too accessible. It's accessible, but I want people too still think there's something a little off.
Thanks @Jocphone, yes, there was too much reverb. The title was more of a play on words I guess. I have a hard time coming up with meaningful titles, that tie into the emotion, as my pieces are rarely inspired by life, but rather a musical idea.
Cor! You writers and your... Words! Had to go look that one up of course. Funny how defining it doesn't seem to add anything or make any more sense of it
My kind of motives. Enjoyed listening
I was cribbing from your notes on soundcloud about the track.
I know. Trying to tie it in to life.
