    Cor! You writers and your... Words! Had to go look that one up of course. Funny how defining it doesn't seem to add anything or make any more sense of it :)

    That's the point I think about limerence, it's indescribable and invisible to all but the parties involved, but wholly real yet cannot, by definition, be held or bought or made to last. Best drug on any market.

    Igneous you make lots of great little passages strung one after another but I never seem to get the overall picture. This is accomplished as ever and I did get a little more progression in the second half with the track gradually becoming more mellow but I am always left feeling something else should have happened. It's great music but needs to say something. That could be me though.

    Ta @Jocphone you've obviously tried to find the positives in something that isn't really your thing. I'd say that was dashed good constructive criticism :)

    I dunno, it's not black and white, there's a lot I do like about your piece and enjoy listening but find it difficult to hold onto something that stays in my head because I can't yet find a thread that binds it all together. Now, don't get me wrong, this same charge has been levelled at me by other forum members so I'm maybe fixating on an Issue that reflects on my own concerns but I do think the strength of SOTMC is in discussing these things.

    Agree fully, but the Wikipedia article tries to kill it with science.

    @TGiG thanks for your comments :)
    I've started a new track yesterday, I hope I'll finish it before the end of february.

    Hey, @TGiG! Did you listen to Fiesta or Treta? I Assume it was Fiesta, because Treta ends with a hard-rock guitar riff. Well, if we are talking about the same thing, it's not an organ, but a simple sound I made with two detuned sawtooths, then recorded it through a cheap compressor and my RAT guitar pedal. Thank you for the review and compliments!

    I'm sorry about the confusion, I'll start adding the track titles!
    I actually was talking about Tetra in this micro review. The keys (organ) I was referring to is in the background around 1:16. The psychedelic parat is at 1:45. Anywhoo I really dig it!

  • Just in time for Valentines Day! Good luck @Jocphone!

  • Just a short selection, more to add later (hopefully)

    @richardyot
    I'm just commenting on the mix here. It's pretty muddy with a fair bit of low mid congestion and a lack of space (frequency wise). There's a few editing errors too. A better mix / approach would serve the song better methinks.

    @crony
    Pretty decent effort. Doesn't really develop though and I'm not that keen on the flangy / phasey snare. Good mix overall.

    @JohnnyGoodyear
    I think the plaintive piano works well with the wordage. As does the restrained FX on the voice.

    @crouchie
    I'm afraid I'm not to keen on this track stylistically, but it's very well done nonetheless, perhaps the voice is buried slightly in the mix at times.

    @achromus
    Best of the bunch, refined compositionally and tonally. An great example of using Gadget in a way that most people don't. Mr Sakamoto may well approve :)

  • OK, part 2, thanks to everyone who submitted.

    @LostBoy85 - Demons:

    I really was impressed with last months acappella performance and the new microphone giving more depth to your recording but I can't get on with this month's track at all. The combination of overdoing the effort and processing most of the dynamics out of your voice leaves it sounding lifeless and generic. Sorry mate, but I've heard you do much better than this and your fantastic singing talent deserves better treatment.

    @TGiG - NiK0lA:

    Thoroughly enjoyed the journey through your song here. Was quite surprised by the drums kicking in after the freer droning earlier passage and thought oh no it'd going to tuen into a generic dance track but you quickly allayed my fears. There's an element of music of the future, from the 70s, in places which works really nicely. It can be difficult to make more abstract soundscapes hold a persons interest but you achieved a balance that never strayed too far from being musical.

    @ecamburn - just return:

    Nice contrast between the instruments. Particularly liked the vocoder like swells and the churlish bass.

    @Bluepunk - My Library is Closed:

    Hey bluey, another lively and inventive track. I hope your partner is feeling better and things have settled down. Felt quite moved by you having her sing on this as well. Technically it's a good effort and keeps pace well and your vocal performance was entertaining as usual. The only thing that stood out a little for me was that the bass maybe aped the guitar a little too closely. Sometimes worth changing the rhythm, the emphasis or the note in the bass so that it fills out the sound a little. Otherwise great stuff.

    @touchconspiracy - The crystalline level -clip:

    I found the intro a bit boomy but did enjoy the erratic rhythm of it leading into the japanese water torture ;) Found the flow of this one really pleasant and surprising in equal measure. It does change a lot but the changes built upon each other and the track as a whole gelled very well.

    @richardyot - Days:

    Loved the frenetic, slightly rushed feel of this Richard. I didn't think it suffered from not having a traditional bass instrument either. I thought the percussion in the verses could have done with a bit more clatter (the sort of drumming that Pete de Freitas was particularly good at) but the chorus is great, really catchy too. The only minor bugbear for me was that all the vocal lines in the chorus ended on the same note. It's just something that jumps out at me, it may not bother other people though.

    @gburks - Golden Spiders:

    Sorry gburks, I couldn't listen to this, I tried but couldn't see the point of it.

    @JohnnyGoodyear - Bane:

    You said this wasn't a SOTMC submission so I'm just saying I enjoyed it. You should try doing a series of these, I think it would be very strong.

    @crony - Overextend:

    Love the rough juddery bass on this. Is this the vocoder from the Korg iDS-10 by any chance? SOunds great whatever it is. Lots of atmosphere to this. Really top notch!

    I've cut down on my workload a little by only critiquing the first track that someone has submitted in SOTMC this month. Don't mind if people post updates or a variation on something they demoed earlier in the month but am finding it a little hard going if people just treat this as a means to bump their soundcloud stats.

    Thanks TGiG! :blush:

  • @jocphone Hey man,no worries,I really appreciate the honesty.Im always learning and trying to improve and I know that sometimes it's gonna be a miss and that's ok.The key thing for me is to just finish the song regardless so I can move on to the next thing.Imo theres nothing worse than a Dropbox folder full of half finished stuff! :smiley:

  • @Jocphone thank you for your good wishes, very kind. Yes, I know what you mean about the bass & that's a a great point which I would like to experiment with. Maybe that "Reverse Chord" app would help me cos I haven't really got a clue about chords. If it sounds ok, it's in & a better understanding of "why" would maybe help.

    Ah, I wondered where your vocal version was :wink: I wish you a happy, fun & full of love time with your incredible woman & look forward to listening to how this beautiful time in your life may influence your future songs. :smiley:

  • @TGiG thanks for taking the time to comment mate.Its much appreciated.

  • @jocphone haha! Are we to expect some soppy ballads from you now eh? That would be awesome! It's a shame Monzos not here anymore as I'm sure he would love that aswell! :wink:

    And it's always intended with the utmost respect. SOTMC is supposed to be about trying different things and you embrace that more than most.

    Thanks Bluey. I still intend to record some vocals for that track as I had some interesting things going on just with the guitar but I will just drop it on the forum some time.

  • @Jocphone thanks for your comments :) I used a Mininova from Novation for the vocoder. I also hae 2 apps for vocoding on Ipad, can't remember the names, seems all right also !

    @Igneous1 thanks also for your comments ! True, sometimes I hide everything with too much effects, I like it faaaat... ;)

  • Thanks mate. Intro deliberatly a shock..wake up time lol

    Cheers for listening

    @touchconspiracy An hour! Wow, you've got a hell of a lot of great stuff going on & your flow is definitely flowing well. I agree about the bass. Mmm, lush indeed. The vocal fits perfectly & when that dripping tap sound comes in opposite those vocals (0.52) is adds a different texture, especially with the bass underneath. The change of tempo over the last 30 secs is excellent & forced me into a jig whilst the bass(es) like it did to @theconnactic speakers, threatened to eat my headphones! I like that. :smile:

    Ok I have late homework. I know it's overdue but my mother always said better late than never.

    @crouchie Ahh such a refreshing departure from the "more common" tracks. And I don't mean just in SOTMC, all music. Yes, as someone noted earlier it is reminiscent of the streets but it somehow seems mo relatable to me. So cool! Thank you, I love it!

    @aaronpc Where to begin? This song by miles is head over heels my absolute favorite song entry. In fact it's the best song I've heard in 2016! Every instrument, every note, every nuance, every turn is perfection to me. I've listened to this song so many times grinning ear to ear. I love the twitchy drums, I love the breakdown at 28 secs with the whistling(?) sound, the eerie organ that goes from a depressing to inspiring tone at 1:26 is just blissful! Outro, spot on. I even love looking at the pic you have up, the nice bright colors except for one little black pixel. I'm not sure if that was intentional. I'm not sure if I sound like a freaky weirdo, but I am a huge fan of your work! Thank you and keep it up!

    @LostBoy85 Wow what a happy, upbeat song! The vocals are very, very dominant in a good way! Are you singing? If so, bravo! It sounds great. My favorite part of the vocals is at 1:57 when they kind of jump up and down. Well done!

    @ecamburn Man, honestly I had no idea where this song was heading. Obviously I enjoyed the intro (was that a hang drum?) but then I was thrown off by the next part. I felt a bit apprehensive and then the music just swept me away! Whenever the hang drums surface it really solidifies the overall tone and feeling, which is good! I dig it, thank you!

    @Bluepunk Last Sunday I had a song stuck in my head. I couldn't remember what it was, then I finally remembered a single word "Librabry"! It was this song! I grew up listening to punk and I absolutely love this song, it's so great! The nasty bass, ripping guitar, the fills and high hats by the drums, the gnarly vocals...man soo good! Thank you!

    @theconnactic Amazing guitar but you already know that! I particularly like the bass tones, the breakdowns, and the organ(?) keys at the end! Very psychedelic, I totally love this song!

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000 Dude, I love it! Such an interesting tone. Are those your vocals? I really enjoy the basses especially the right at 3:00. Those evolving tones are sick too! I totally dig this one!

    @touchconspiracy A man after my own heart! I absolutely love this song! From the bombastic intro to sexy 90's vocal hits to the random textures, this song I have to say it is one of my favorites! Very, very good. I can't wait to hear what's next! Thank you!

    @crouchie As this is my first SOTMC and I never opened soundcloud, I actually don't know what most people on this forums music sounds like. Naturally since "Just me and Bill" was the first track I heard from you, I had a certain expectation. This second song far exceeded that already high expectation! This is such an enjoyable song! So many qualities. The lead vocals are inspiring, the backing vocals are angelic, the bass is so moving and all other elements just mesh so well. I really, really love listening to this track, well done!

    @richardyot The fist section of the vocals set a certain tone for me. And honestly it wasn't a positive tone. But that because it reminded me of someone very famous and very talented that I personally don't care but most people do...sooo technically it IS a compliment but just not my cup of tea. BUT! That was just the beginning! Once you got to the chorus I instantly perked up! I had to rewind it and start it over. Then I got it! I totally love it! I really love the chorus, it reminds me of The Kinks and I love The Kinks! The guitar solo is also perfect! Did you do that? Very good. I really enjoy listening to this one!

    @gburks Take a bow! Job well done! Not only is this song such a great listen, it's for a great cause! That's so rad! Not to mention this is a great tribute to add to the SOTMC collection. Nice! I can't imagine the process of creating this song especially with the apps you mentioned, I'm sure it took some work! So much fun, thank you, thank you!

    @JohnnyGoodyear Dude. You know. This is so true. So raw. So original. So perfect. You know what you're doing! I love it!

    @crony Holy shit! Where did this come from?! Clearly from another dimension! As soon as the first vocals came up I was floored! The chorus is phenomenal! I've listened to this song on repeat all day! Bravo! Thank you :)
