    I must confess to not being so much a fan of long wobbly guitar notes and rock sounding vocals - on the whole. And there's a fair bit of both in this track.

    That withstanding - I felt it was a pretty complete song. And Mr Yot is right about the anguish. I thought the vocals sounded raw, but not especially out of tune to my very amateurish ear.

    Hope that's helpful - but I doubt it is!

    The lyrics I liked.

  • @Matt_Fletcher_2000 I am a fan of your work. We are so used to your developed tracks. I like this one as raw as it may be.

    @rkmonkey I really feel the anguish when listening to this one, it's very powerful, and for the most part I really like it, particularly the swirling guitars. The only think that could be improved is the vocals, out of tune in places, but overall the vocal performance doesn't quite match up to the song - vocals are really hard though, as I know only too well.

    It's a great tune though, so keep working on that singing and I'm sure you will be able to get the kind of performance you need.

    Thanks for the feedback. You have a great ear and better than most. Vocals will always be a work for me. I almost posted as an instrumental but thought back to your comment last month and...... This is what came out.

  • @Bluepunk said:
    @rkmonkey Definitely not your usual as you say but a cool change of pace & intensity to kick off your New Year. I listened yesterday & racked my brain to search who it slightly reminded me of. Today I've got it. There's a hint of Duran Duran melody in there. Especially at 0.40 to 0.55 & also running through your tune.

    I particularly like your heady, whirly guitar work & sound. I can hear the vocals & just as importantly, feel the emotion flowing through your veins as you sing. The bouncy, boingy spring (3.13 to 3.18) is great & not expected. Like the way you've ended your song as well. Yeah, great start to the year! :smiley:

    Thanks man. I appreciate the comments.

    Mmm - I can hear them working on the roof... moving about a fair bit up there.

    Ah... the robots have arrived.

    Yep, still working on the roof. Doing some hammering now.

    Ah, cool... i'll stop being silly now - loving the piano part coming in.

    And from there on in I really love it. Beautiful piano playing combined with that lovely metallic beat.

    For me the intro is just a bit too weird. But the rest sounds really accomplished to be honest (in a pretty avant garde kind of way). One of my favourite tracks of yours.

    For once I'm inclined to agree with you about the intro. Putting a song together is a bit of a journey. The later, more melodic part, probably wouldn't have have happened without the madness near the start. I was tempted to ditch the very raucous section. Am quite happy adding stuff, think I need to learn what to chop away as well.

  • @Jocphone When I was listening to your intro, I was picturing Predator v Alien v Freddy Krueger but then................you lead me into what I think, is my favourite track of yours yet.
    A beautifully understated song that I enjoyed sat down with a clear head & open mind.

    Even when you introduced the edgy sound at 3.50 it compliments the softer melody underneath & chief, it is a lovely melody! The creaking mast sound allied to the soft beat throughout adds enough percussion to gently tease your tune along its wonderful, peaceful path. A great start to your SOTMC year. :smiley:

  • @rkmonkey

    I don't know why, but it reminds me of Pink Floyd, Steve Miller vocals and Floyd. I don't listen to PF, so I'm not sure why it reminds me of them lol. I really like the song, the lead guitar tone that comes in and is present through the whole song is great. It's like, there is a lot going on in this song. It appears to be a simple classic Rock style song, but there are a lot of digital/space type sounds going on throughout. Even the drums, are normal percussion, with some mixed in different sounding electric pots and pans.

    Well done, catchy little tune. Things seemed to be mixed together well, the lead stands out, vocals fit well.

    @Jocphone

    Starts off very interesting and kinda Chaotic. Nothing wrong with that. When the Bass Synth comes in, it becomes calm and soothing. Then the other synth, with the piano style riffs adds to the smoothness of the song. The noise/sound at around 2:19 or so reminds me of I think War of Worlds when they get sucked up into the Space craft to be destroyed? I don't know if it fits the song that well, but what do i know. Soon after that. More of the cool piano style riffs, catchy song. @3:50, that song I didn't think fit, strangely, I think it works really well at this point.

    The little distorted/gritty drum beat every so often sounds great, adds just enough boom to the song. Nice song!

    @achromus

    Ahhh, relaxing tune. Little subtle Bass line in the background. The faster piano style riff is very cool and catchy. @1:19 or so.....The accenting piano adds another layer that fits really well into the song. All the synths are mixed together great to my ears. The additional synth additions in the song all fit well too, each one being added throughout the song adds another well mixed layer. I can pick out each synth sound prior, and the newly added one. Great job, excellent song.

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000

    The beginning, I thought started off a bit slow. I'm at about a minute 45 in now and I think the addition of a steady drum beat, and a few added synth sounds helps the fullness of the song. The very subtle and slow piano riff that has been there since the beginning is like the backbone of the song, it sounds great in there. @ 3:48 the breakdown, my gosh I sound like I'm talking about Metal Core...lol........ It hits nicely, and is a great part of the song. Then the drum beat comes in again and adds the spice back at the right time.

    I can't really tell if it is missing anything???? It does sound like a full featured song ATM. I wouldn't think adding any thing would be a bad thing. But certainly not needed. I deff. say keep going with it. Polish it.

  • Okee-Dokeey,

    I'm re-working my song from last month-----High5Denied-------. Taking all yer comments into account. Upping the Bass, Re-tracking the vocals, shortning my phrases, mostly through the Chorus. Took out the pops that were heard, which was a weird one. It was part of a drum track from Rock DM. Pro-q helped out with that, using the left - right option, I stuck a high cut filter(I think) just on the left, and Boom popping gone!

    Thanks everyone for the comments and critique on it, it has helped a lot. I jsut need to find time to re-track the vocals. Then I'll post it again, and hopefully it will be more polished.

    Oh, also, I changed it to a Country-Techno song instead of Rock. It seemed to fit better. Just kidding.

    Here be mine:

    It's a song I did for the Synthmaster contest a while back. Hence, all Synthmaster synths. All played through Midimorphosis. I re-mixed it a bit, and re-mastered it too.(I use those terms lightly) ;) I'm still learning a lot so ya. Auria used for the lightly termed stuff........

    Thanks high5 a good breakdown of the song and in answer to your question 'what do I know', you know as much as any of us, just different experiences so don't be shy in offering an opinion.

    Sounds like sucking space craft noise won you over by the end of the song so that's kinda good no? I've still got to do last month and I like to listen a few times to each song so it's going to be a while till I get round to this month's submissions. We all seem to have got in really early!

    @rkmonkey hey man,so I gave your track a few spins.This was ambitious to say the least eh? Man,theres loads going on and if I'm honest it's a little too all over the place for me.good intro and outro but there's too much going on while your singing dude.My fave bit though is definitely the guitar hook,I do feel it's overused BUT...it's very catchy and has stayed in my head throughout the day.I like the vocal trick your using with the harmony/effects.You have created this kind of chaotic atmosphere which I have to say does serve the song,but I just think for the sake of dynamics it could be toned down in places mate.

    Bloody good job being first out the gate for the new year though man! :smiley:

  • @High5denied thanks for the feedback. A layered mess of an all iOS creation with vocals.

    Enjoying your track for the third listen now. Ahh, peaceful chaos. Sometimes it is the most I hope for. The song helps. Great job. Looking forward to your reworked tune also.

    Thanks as always. Right on too, as always. Layers of "too much" I intended to leave as an instrumental initially. The vocals and lyrics just happened. The vocals needed a bit of sprucing. May work on the mix some day.........

  • @Igneous1 this one is an interesting evolution on your previous work - it's anchored by the bass line around which the rhythmic and melodic instruments are constantly changing and evolving. With the bass line to provide some continuity the track feels is anchored and it provides some contrast with the rest of the instruments as they chop and change - but crucially the experience isn't as bewildering as when everything is changing, having that anchor really makes a big difference to the experience.

    As usual there are lots of interesting rhythms and melodies, some of them quite catchy (that could probably bear to be repeated more), It's a very good tune and one that I enjoyed listening to.

  • @achromus very nice tune with some great melodic elements. I like the fact that it's a beat-less piece of electronica, which gives it a very cinematic feel. Nice pianos, and lovely recurring melodies. Also it sounds like you're using either a pentatonic or exotic scale, particularly the phrase that comes in at the 2 minute mark, which gives the melody an unusual flavour which I really like.

    My only crit is that the limiting is a bit harsh, at 2.20 I can hear some subtle distortion on the highs, and then at around 4.40 again the chimes and strings sound like they are distorting to me - not sure if it's Final Touch or the limiter in Gadget that is being pushed too hard.

  • @Igneous1 Intriguing intro, great sound, slightly warped & catchy to waken up my "hook" nerve endings. You said you've added some more bass this time & this is something that has worked well. It's given an anchor to allow all your jaunty bits to flow, jar & dance around. I like that little bass riff at 0.53 to 0.60. Then tapering off to finish with the bass was a good shout.

    I have to go back to your intro though. There could be a whole song using that bit from 0 to 0.16. That "da, duddle a dud da" got me straight away & could be used throughout. Everyone seems to be on top form & you have certainly delivered a cracker to open up this years account. :smiley:

  • Here's my humble feedback, not got the depth of knowledge of many here so apologies in advance. Going through a creative drought after a rather tricky holiday season but hoping to get back to it soon.

    @rkmonkey I really think there is a good son in there, and I like a lot about it. The vocal is good but could do with a bit of tightening up. Also I just wonder if the guitar and vocal clash a little in places and you might consider giving your voice a bit more space at times. But overall a great dramatic feel to it.

    @Jocphone impressed by the use of sunvox. I bought it a while back cos I thought I'd feel really good about myself if I could work out how to use that. I didn't and so I don't.... Love the progression into the melody that really holds the track together. My kind of tune.

    @Igneous1 this flows really nicely and the mix of sounds works well, not cluttered to my ear. I like the way you use gadget to get this sound, I love how convenient it is but can rarely get the sound I want, as my previous Soundcloud struggles show. Good tune.

    @achromus nice atmosphere, good mix and help my attention. Ditto use of Gadget in the above comment. I really got on with this tune.

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000 like it as a beginning, looking forward to hearing how it progresses.

    @High5denied different to the last one! Looking forward to hearing how that has progressed. This fits in well with this months apparent theme of downtempo electronica, and I think it holds its own really well. Would like a bit more variety in the last third, a bit of a loop to give it some more emotion maybe. But really good.

    Again, apologies for the lack of depth and I'll be getting something ready over the next couple of weeks. Grateful to everyone for making this such a supportive forum.

    Sorry to hear you had a rough time over the holiday season. Maybe channel the negative feelings into something?

    My best advice if you still wanted to get something from SunVox would be:

    1. watch the Solar Lune videos and try to copy what he makes
    2. start very simple so you get comfortable with the basics of the interface and the inidivdual modules.
    3. keep going. It took me months to get to the point where I could create something interesting and repeatable.

    Again, apologies for the lack of depth and I'll be getting something ready over the next couple of weeks. Grateful to everyone for making this such a supportive forum.

    There are many ways to get over a mental block. Trying something you haven't done before usually works for me.

  • @Jocphone thanks for that, will check out the videos. Good advice about the block too - have started a downtempo number and have a good old sing over it, see what nonsense I can generate! Cheers

  • @rkmonkey

    Thanks for the listen and feedback on my song, I appreciate it. I'm happy it was the right style for the moment you were in. :)

    @crouchie

    Thanks for the thoughts on my song! I agree that it becomes a bit redundant towards the end. I have thought what I may want to do to un-redundant it, still doing some thinking.

    Ya, this song is quite a bit different than last months. I'm a bit all over the place with my music. My love is 80's Metal and pop. But, I also love a whole lot of other stuff too.

    @Jocphone Well,this is my favourite of yours so far mate.I really like the chord sequence and that part for me was very easy on the ears and I think could def work with some vocals.It took a little while for this one to get going but for me I think other than the vocal track you recently did this one is your most accessible track to my ears.Nice work man! :smile:

  • @Igneous1 Hey dude,Another good track.You have a very distinct style and sound palette which makes your music very distinguishable as a "Igneous1" track,which is great and you are very talented... but... I just worry that things might start sounding a bit "samey" after a while.I say that with respect mate.I think it's the sounds you use.I kind of feel that you obviously have some great moves but I would love to see you push the envelope a bit and I honestly don't know how...it's just kind of how I feel.

    Thanks, I'm always interested to hear your thoughts as you obviously give things a good listen to before commenting.

    @Bluepunk
    Same as for Richard, I really appreciate that you've given the track a good listen through, too !

    @crouchie
    Ta, the choice of sounds and leaving space, I find is part and parcel on getting a good mix.

    @Matt_Fletcher_2000
    I'm Mister pop briefly ! Yes, it does meander, I tend to get a little bored with what I'm doing unless it 'goes off on one'.

    @rkmonkey
    Ditto, regarding flow and build , cheers.

    @LostBoy85
    You know, that's a good point you make. These tracks are going to be part of an album of some sort, so a certain 'homogeneity' of sounds is actually what I'm looking for. I stick to fairly standard sounds and hopefully the composition is the more interesting element.

    Pleasure. I'm not very good with all the technical stuff/advice so I just let the song tell me a story. It may not be exactly what the writer had in mind but I enjoy what the writer made me feel & think.
    Forgot to say that it's fabulous as it is but like @LostBoy85 I think your song would definitely take vocals both quietly low & soaringly high (more LostBoy85's than my drivel). It's the melody. It really shines through. :smiley:

    Yes thanks both. Now I have to consider doing even more work this month!

    Though I think what your saying bluey is that it probably could do with vocals from someone with skills beyond my own. Might have to get a bit creative..

  • @crouchie thanks for listening and the comments. Agree there is much going on at the same time. Much to improve upon.
