Haha, no, I think you yourself can do a top job on the singing front. My motto is:
"if in doubt....... shout!" Good luck & hope it all goes to plan if you do decide to give it a whirl.
Don't worry I'm not to let lack of talent or experience stop me before and I'm old enough to have stopped caring about making a fool of myself.
Though with Blackstar about to be released you may find me getting all mock Bowie on it!
@achromus Welcome sir & a fine first song for the club you've crafted. That's a lovely melody throughout which is gently highlighted by the skilful adding & taking away of those well played synth layers. I don't own Gadget but you, & others on here are certainly making a very strong case for me to maybe look further into it this year.
A dreamy, almost mystical feel that along with the Radox has soothed & soaked away the aches & pains of normal life. Bottomless is an apt title & fits with the airy, floaty textures that your song sends out. Yes, maybe a lead would slot in somewhere although it doesn't feel empty without it. Good start achromas.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 listening to the first minute, I was both excited & unsure as to which avenue you would be heading down next. Would it veer completely off piste & into @Jocphone & @monzo (where are you)? territory or maintain its lighter less manic feel. I didn't mind either way but I'm really impressed with what you've ended up with. It's mysteriously dancy in its own unique way.
Your questions answered IMHO:
I also think it could have some subtle dreamy vocals with some delay at the end of most lines. Everyone's on fine form & you have added to that with your new song.
Wondering if this should maybe get its own category or something...
@High5denied As a well know (to these shores) dance judge says when he's happy with what he's just seen............"Simply gorwgus" (gorgeous). Those chords you are playing are achingly sad & melancholic but also heart pumpingly enlightening & I love 'em! Sometimes when I listen I can hear a smidgen of Simple Minds then on another listen I pick up Enya......or both!
With the oriental played parts snuggled in amongst those rock solid chords I mentioned, it knocks on my softer, less brutal front door & I welcome it in with open arms & heart.
Really good stuff indeed.
Country Techno version?? Now that I'd love to hear! Well done for continuing the work on your last song & I'm looking forward to experiencing the fruits of your labour.
Thanks very much
@Bluepunk's poetic reviews? I think he might get a bit lonely on his own..
Thanks for the feedback. I know Gadget quite well now but I haven't used Final Touch much yet so that probably accounts for the issues. I'll keep trying.
Thanks for the feedback. Gadget is a lot of fun and easy to learn.
@Bluepunk
Thanks so much for the feedback! Happy you like the song and enjoyed it.
Aw thank you. Yes, I don't like it on my own Have you had a chance to have a crack on those vocals yet sir?
Not a chance of that yet. Am trying to clear the decks for listening to the December submissions.
Am thinking of something like a gregorian chant might work (omen style) but I know it will end up nothing like
Ooh yeah, now that would be splendid. Just had a quick listen to your melody then to a clip of a Gregorian chant. Ooh yeah again! Best of luck. Could be spectacular.
Not sure it needs it - it's vibrant and busy here, and it works well as a monthly thread. The danger of putting it into a category is that it might encourage the idea of starting separate threads (one per submission instead of one per month), and I think that would kill it. It works nicely as one big messy communal conversation.
@achromus Welcome to the club mate.I enjoyed your track. It was nice and easy on the ears and evolved nicely.I really liked the layer that came in around the two min mark.Very good stuff!
My triumphant return: more ambiance, atmosphere, less downtempo, and this one is BIG. I finished this up right at the end of the year for a compilation and wanted to share it with you guys. I used TF7 and GarageBand iOS for pads, and a desktop Synth, Gadget, and my microkorg for leads and bass. I started by recording my microkorg, TF7, and my guitar through Audiobus into Cubasis for 8 bars. I recorded a bunch of Gadget lines through Audiobus as well into it live, but only used them in the transitions. Recorded the beginning drum beats in iMachine with their Neon Drive pack. I overdubbed the finale drums in GarageBand on my iPhone. I exported the whole lot in Abelton and converted some to midi again and recorded with Synth 1 for Mac. I arranged and mastered in Abelton. Sorry I know that's a lot! Anyway I look forward to hearing what the crew has to offer this month!

Think you said it! Great complete tune. Will enjoy this one for a while. Posting with the cool pic.
Thanks! The artwork was a mix of Assembly and Enlight.
As for your track, I really enjoyed it. I agree with others, it is different than your last few offerings, I liked the mix of Rock with glitch. Kudos on the vocals! I keep telling @JohnnyGoodyear that I will do it, and then I give up or chicken out. If you keep up this style, and practicing your vocals, you could really be on to a unique and accessible rock/electronic style.
Nice work! I am always a fan of your challenging music, but this has a wonderful melody that is very pretty to counteract the noise. Super impressed that you did this with Son Vox, that's amazing that you would challenge yourself to work in that way!
Dude, your experiments keep getting more out there and I think you need to go with your gut on something like this, and mix and polish. The Animoog is beautiful, and the beat keeps it all from going off into the ether. I don't particularly care for the drum sounds themselves, that kick is a little too dead for me, but that is a minor point. The modulations you having going on are great, and the FM sounding bells are wonderful. I think that this stands on its own two feet.
Maybe it was the month off being busy with work, but this month is just killing it out of the gates. This is absolutely gorgeous! Dreamy, well mixed and mastered, and the synth lines harmonize with each other beautifully. This is right up my alley and if this came one month earlier would have definitely been in my best of 2015. Wonderful bells at the end, great synth modulations keeping it lively, and as I said the mixing is great! This could have all gotten very muddy. Nice work!
Really good track! I love the middle section where the synths cut in and out, almost like samples playing off each other. Really unique, almost like a call and response between all of the different synths. The bass keeps it all together, and the drums stay interesting but it never feels like there is too much happening for me. It reminds me of 10 Peter Gabriel songs playing at the same time, in a good way.
Very peaceful track. Those Synthmaster sounds are nice, I like the interweaving synth lines. Not hearing this last month, I would have to say that bass feels a little too heavy, or that the mastering/eq took a little too much off the top. It feels as if I am hearing it muffled when I want those pretty FM sounds to shine through. Other than that personal preference, great job!
Agree with The General on this one.
@Matt_Fletcher_2000 At the start I definitely found this to be on the experimental/difficult side of the spectrum, but funnily enough as the track went on (and on further listens) it became a little easier on the ear. The sounds in the intro are uncomfortable, but later on as the track builds up those same sounds seem to soften as the track builds up around them.
I'm not crazy on the drums though: the hi-hat rhythm is stuttery while the kick and snare are straight ahead boom-tish, it doesn't feel funky or groovy at all to me, and the choice of sounds is also very harsh - I can understand the sounds in the context of a more experimental track but I think the rhythm itself could be improved, it sounds very jarring which I assume that's a deliberate choice but when I listen it does feel a bit relentlessly harsh and difficult.
I do like the way the sounds evolve towards the end of the track, and there are some interesting ideas here, as well as a departure from your normal style. If was your producer I would advise you to add just a little sweetness and beauty here and there to contrast against the harshness and I think that would improve the track immensely.
Thanks @richardyot and others. The feedback is much appreciated.
What I've ended up doing is copying the midi patterns I used for the track out of bassline and put them into Gadget.
Inspired by another track in this thread, I've had a really thorough play with Keiv and got it to make much more interesting sounds than I was previously able to.
I've also changed the drums and added a lead and two repeating chords.
So it's quite a different track now. In Gadget. Without Animoog. I'll post at some point. Still working on it.
Thank you @BvsMV! The piano melody does seem popular this month
SunVox isn't that challenging once you get into it. It's just like Gadget with all the extras that people ask for and the ability to build your own, or download, extra gadgets when you feel like it. The main challenge for me is making something interesting.
Interesting....
Right, my first submission:
It is basically me and FabFilters Timeless2 bouncing things around. One take for the master track, then adding a few other tracks to enhance/emphasize things. Good lesson as a first project with midi in Auria Pro.
I actually intended to add all kinds of things to it, such as a beat and a defined bass etc, but everything I added made it all sound wonky/weird, so I scaled it all back down and went with the basics instead.
