  • I'm so stoked to get Gadget on my iPhone!! My iPad 3 can't handle more than like 5 instruments at a time. It'll be nice to have more going on at the same time and be able to take it everywhere with me :D.

I know eh? i may just have to upgrade the old 4s...

  • isn't the iphone version limited to so many tracks? I thought I read 5-6 somewhere...

  • Oh no! I can't imagine the iphone 6 not being able to handle at least 10 :( the thing is like 5x more powerful than my iPad 3

  • I think that was the free LE version.

Ahh. Yes could be. Makes sense

  • An interesting screenshot has been posted by @AudioGus showing the insert EQ in greater detail. It looks that there are two Shelf EQs (High and Low) and a Parametric EQ (Mid):

    • High (Freq, Gain)
    • Mid (Freq, Q, Gain)
    • Low (Freq, Gain)

There's also what appears to be a FX dropdown selector above the High EQ, which is set to EQ on the screenshot.

Also, notice the per-track MIDI button (still unclear what this will bring new to Gadget... hopefully multi-timbral MIDI input, but that is just pure speculation).

"There's a roadmap for future updates that will add new gadgets and support audio tracks, further perfecting the system as a mobile music production studio." Copied from their current Gadget page. So I don't think it is completely killed by Korg.

That has been there since day one and I just think they havent updated the page.

I know it has always been there, but I am of the view that they still have it in mind to do it, rather than they just forgot to take it out.

  • Still no audio tracks or longer samples? :(

  • Something I am going to try, in theory it should work to get some for of audio track alongside Gadget is

Have Gadget with main song prgrammed
using Link as sync run Modstep alongside
again using link as sync run LoopyHD and send midi triggers to it from Modstep to trigger the loops at the right time.

Not true audio tracks, but should provide me with long enough samples for what i am trying to do.

The new EQ and Compressor per track suddenly makes Gadget far more than just a notepad for me :)

when is the update going to be released?

Most stores in germany says the the new controller are available mid february and since they are shipped with Gadget LE (website clearly mentions phone version as well)....

And i'm sure they won't release the controller without making Gagdet work together perfectly with them right from the beginning.

Although Korg and delivery dates are a bit shaky at best (thinking of Volcas and Electribes)....but on the other hand, the Minilogue is already available so there's hope :)
The controllers are selling for much cheaper than i thought (149,-€ instead 178,-€ ) and i'll definitely get myself a Nanokey Studio.Maybe even a Nanocontrol Studio later if the integration is THAT good...

    Don't tell me soon :D

  • Kinda soon.

    How soon is soon?

  • Soon-ish ? :)

  • Only one season exists for IOS musicians nowadays.
    It's called Spring.

I will, I probably won't get a real chance to try it out until the weekend, I had considered it before but the lack of EQ and Comp in Gadget made it seem not worth it as there would have been to much transfering of audio into a DAW for mixing, but that is all about to change :)

At some time past the present moment :)

  • As for audio tracks, I'm hoping Cubasis gets LINK.

Then I can make my song in Gadget and just LINK it up with Cubasis and record the audio tracks in there.

I know I could just export the mix to Cubasis today, but having everything "live" and available to tweak is more flexible.

    Can't wait so long....

  • I really want a decent drum synth in Gadget.

I keep trying to get Tokyo to sound good but it never does... Anyone got anything decent out of Tokyo and can share?

Patiently waiting for Cubasis to get link too, not sure when it will happen though, there is an update expected soon but no clues as to whats included, I have pretty much stopped using my guitar when when making tunes with anything else because by the time you get everything exported (individual tracks so that I could EQ and compress them in the mix) and transferred and then imported into Cubasis the moment is lost, so live jamming only :( . Using MIDICLK was pants because you have to start the song from the beginning everytime to get both Gadget and Cubasis to play and if you miss your cue point you gotta start again. (But that's an old discussion thanks to Link :) )

I'm hoping the above setup will give me enough instantness to see me over until Link does finally come to Cubasis.

  • Wonder how the new eq stuff will affect performance. I can get 14-16 tracks on my iPad 4 running. If I throw some eq on 2-3 gadgets - am I only going to be able to run 12-13 gadgets? Curious - can't wait to get my hands on the update to see.

The additional EQs and comps will obviously use the same CPU ;) I don't think it will be very demanding though,Auria and Cubasis are good examples of how minimal the usage of the (internal) EQ's and Compressor can be.And as we can see with Gadget, korg is able to optimize this app quite well.

  • I'd really love to see a proper time-line in Gadget 2.0 onto which we could drag/copy patterns and give the patterns arguments like repeat, transpose etc.

Also a simple way to record patterns to the time-line by triggering them either by touching the screen or by midi-notes. The patterns could also behave like 'samples' ie stop playback on note-off, transposed from midi-keyboard or a new 'Pattern Trigger Gadget.

Guess I'm already ahead of time thinking about Gadget Live 3.0 :D

  • Longer audio sample time. Period.

  • I hope they include options for 3D touch! The best new feature on iOS devices in the last years!

What do you mean with decent?
When I use it I've quite always been satisfied from the results, giving that it is a streamline, 4 voices, 1 master Fx. Anyway IMO I get more interesting results in Tokyo rather than on iElectribe.

Really? I find it much easier to get a wider range of sounds out of iElectribe. And the quality of the sounds are better I think.

With Tokyo, if you have any kind of decay on the kick drum and then trigger another kick drum in quick succession you get a nasty click (because it can't trigger 2 voices). I also find there 's a lot of digital noise on the drum sounds. The sounds from the other 3 instruments tend to sounds bit tinny to me - and there's not a lot of scope for variation on the snare or the tom.

I understand that it's probably been designed to be extremely efficient on CPU resources and of course you can create multiple instances to get round the single voice issue. But i'd love something a bit more fully fledged like an iElectribe/Elastic Drums Gadget if possible.
