Who will be the first one to make a 'ModStep' controller-template for Ruismaker?? (I don't own ModStep yet).

    The CC guru, @gonekrazy3000 .

    Good to know :)

Regarding ModStep, Is there currently a way to substitute a value with text?
(This would come in handy since in Ruismaker CC values can be used to select instruments, so selecting instrument by name instead of referring to a list of numbers would be really nice).

The 'number' to 'text' feature would be handy for off/on switches, so instead of 0 or 127 it would read off or on.
This would also make it easier to create 'patch-lists' for program change commands allowing easier bank/patch-selection.

    Back to Ruismaker :)

Oh, yes, the name can be any number or screen text.

Yes, that would be me. So this is not my first drum machine ;-)

Well I'll be buying this on launch, loyalty buy. I loved hammerhead. Introduced me to the amen break. I was so blown away that it was in all drum&bass that I found it and sampled it and used Matilda tracker in Buzz to muck around with it. Thanks for making great things :)

Well, you can always do it in Ruismaker's own UI, which gives you a normal human-readable list of instrument names. You only have to deal with the numbers if you insist on doing it via midi commands :-D

Yepp, and maybe it's smarter to use multiple instances instead of changing instruments :)

Thanks for the suggestion about conventional Key Mapping. It was a relatively easy feature to implement and it may just come in handy for some people... (and implemented like this it doesn't get in the way).

    Nice!

I'm thinking... Will Ruismaker also work as a 'stand alone' sound-module? (I'm thinking some users might wan't to use it that way on say an older iOS device if the CPU usage is not too high).

That's an unnerving app list there, comrade. Pinterest, Plague Inc., ReBirth...!

  • On paper, this app seems like a real beauty. I'm wondering (without trying to lower the tone of the discussion) what the price will be. But, right now, I'm thinking TAKE MY MONEY (at least that which I haven't wasted on the frankly bland DM2 and the oh-so-ugly iSpark)....

Starbucks Latte and a Cookie was mentioned earlier which should land at around $4.99 :)

Perfect. I hate Starbucks' coffee anyway ;)

  • am I reading correctly that this app is going to be stand alone as well as an au plug, for those of use who don't use au plugs?

No, Audio Unit only for now. Making it stand alone seemed a bit redundant as there are so many standalone drum apps out there already, and it's easy enough to load the plugin into AUM or Garageband to achieve the same thing.

  • This seems as good a place as any to ask, what happens to AUs when you swap them out or close the host app? Do they hide some place in memory like IAA instruments or do they go nicely back into their baskets till next used?

I am not sure I eligible to answer your question.

    See the photos

If you having it swiped left, the CPU stop consuming this heavy demanding app.

Maybe there is a memory space occupied by the AU app, but certainly the CPU is stopping. If this is IAA app, the CPU will keep consuming the battery according to AUM developer.

Can someone help for the memory space question?

As soon as the host app deallocates the extension (therefore indicates it is no longer needed) the system immediately removes it from memory. According to the Apple's own documentation memory is cleaned up rather aggressively in the case of extensions.

So - in a practical example - if you "eject" an Audio Unit from AUM it should stop claiming any resources except for a few MB of permanent storage on your device.

    Nice!

This time I might fall hard for ModStep, get it and create a GM2 template to control the iOS Soundcanvas (Too bad many parameters are SysEx only).

Any time-estimate as to when we can expect to see a sample-oscillator (preferably with multiple interpolation options) in the ModSteps synth?
