Tried out in ModStep
Top tip for ModStep:
Sounding good. Random button is great.
I'm wondering how much diversity you can get (no rim shot or cow bell?) but it's cool and sounds 'quality'.
Was the missing presets window in Modstep solved? Not sure how to find it.
For some reason when I drag the AU into a track, Ruismaker comes up as "melody," and so I cannot get a drum pad as a keyboard.
And excellent suggestions!
Unfortunately the Modstep keyboard doesn't accommodate the full scale.
Even if you change the key to C# Major you're still missing the F#3.

@ExAsperis99 ,
There is a RUISmaker CC template, save it as another one under Pad section.
Design your own pad with that CC template by inserting notes indicated and giving each pad a name. Then you can play pad while you are modulating RUIS CC.
Save your Pad with that CC, because Modstep has binding ability for BOTH CC and Pad.
If you don't, you can not have pad to play when you morphing your midi CC.
Great. AOK. Thank you, sir.
But what about the presets? I'm stuck with an 808 in modstep till the update? Or am I missing something.
Mapping can be changed in Ruismakers iOS settings (main device settings page) to GM drum mapping, which fits the Modstep keys...that way you can get your from the keys gui preset button
Preset button on lower right corner of pad board. Press it you can see 13 presets there.
Useful combo, Ruismaker instances mapped to Patterning MIDI out notes and CC controlling parameters too for multi-layered percussive synchronicity.
D'oh!
DOH = Dog of house!
i had no idea it was out already! ill get tomorrow. too tires to go out for a gift card now, fak.
man, au plugins have spoiled me. i cant buy anything anymore unless its AU.
Hey, I know everyone here gets crazy about every single new app that comes out. Then go over the top talking about it being an "insta-buy". Then, 2 weeks later everyone is complaining about lack of features or bugs. You know it's true.
So, if I already have Patterning, Elastic Drums, DM2, etc. Why do I want this? Yes, I know it's AU... but why is that a benefit with a drum machine?
Dont' get me wrong, I'm not dissing this... just asking what the real benefit of AU in a drum machine is, and where this one shines over all of the others I already have?
No idea how to load the template.
@skiphunt i am a sucker for drum synthesizers. elastic drum is the most used drum machine of the ones i have, then ielectribe [the iphone version, only because of the way it looks]. sample based drum machines are ok, but they dont get my attention like synth based ones.
i have impc pro and that one never gets used. might just deleted it one of these days. patterning is funky and nicely designed, but i don't use it at all [one of the apps that the hype got me to buy it] - ispark though, this one is what i use for all sample based drums, unless im using modstep [which is what i do 90% of the time now] then i just go with the built in sampler.
i was going to get dm-2 but when i saw this thread at the beginning, i decided to hold on. i was also interested in two other synth based drum machines, but i never got around to getting them, and its a good thing [i believe those were modrum and synthdurm pads] because i might not have used them i think, being so reliant on elastic drums and ielectribe.
I've likely got all I need when it comes to drum stuff, but I'm still intrigued by an AU drum synth.
I like elastic drums a lot, and maybe DM-2 about the same or maybe a bit more since it's more straightforward. Patterning is really cool, but I haven't had it that long. I think the hype on that one is justified though. Love playing/sequencing other synths and imported recordings as samples with it too.
Just not sure I need or want another one now, but like I said, I'm intrigued by the AU component. Not sure how I'd use it though.
@skiphunt using patterning to sequence synths? what? i need to try this now! had no idea. hehe.
but yes, with the way things are on ios, its so easy to just buy almost every new app that comes out and then ignore them when the hot new thing comes out. there are some that i haven't bought yet and probably wont in a long while because i realized i had a problem [for example, havent done anyting wit cyclop or sector even, ids-10 was fun for a while but i never started anything at all] so no model-15 for me for a long while at least. hehe.
btw, if you think you dont need it, then its because you dont. i realized that sometimes having too much is too bloating and at least for me, leaves me doing nothing. im starting to trim a lot of stuff, or limiting to using specific things on a specific project.
Yeah, it's pretty freakin awesome. You can even assign a different synth to each of the 8 patterns.
No drumsynth would be complete without a cowbell!
If you mean 'more cowbell diversity' let me know.. I may add different cowbell models in a later update.
I'm hoping that the answers to this question will clear up a few grey areas for me.
How are you meant to use Ruismaker from within AUM? Is it just a realtime "bang on the pads" kind of thing? Can I sequece Ruismaker inside AUM, and if so, how? Can I somehow point Auria at it?
I've got Cubasis and will use Ruismaker there. Was just wondering about Ruismaker's use in AUM.
Aum has no midi sequencing abilities, just routing external signals; so no, you can't sequence anything in aum
EDIT : this is related to ALL apps running thru AUM while not connected to any apps, it's NOT a Ruismark issue at all...
Okay, in fact that sound issue does not happen when I connect it to my soundcard ! It does sound softer only if you use the Ipad alone...
I have it running actually, and I wonder if I have a problem with Modstep, because it's really not regular...I mean the tempo.
Going to test with Cubasis...
_NERK/Benjamin let me know there are going to be some Audio Unit fixes and improvements in the next Modstep update, so it may already have been fixed and otherwise I'll work with him to get it to work (first figure out if it's a problem on my end or on Modstep's).
AU on iOS is still pretty much a Wild West affair, with very little in terms of documentation and support from Apple's side (even Garageband hasn't implemented tempo syncing properly). So it's a matter of iOS devs working together to help each other out. It's a great scene to be developing in.
Awesme, the only thing i noticed so far but iam not sure if its software specific, but the knobs are a bit "fast" i dont know might be my gat fingers. But maybe make them a little stickier ?
That should be relatively simple to implement. Thanks for the suggestion.
You can load it into AUM and sequence with an external sequencer. I have used it with Genome and Modstep this way. Auria Pro should work as well.
The slide list on the left is hidden with Modstep ! You can reach the kits, but you can't see the names of them.

But as Kaikoo2 said , you can reach presets with Modstep.
But the problem is there if you want to load presets into AUM...
In Cubasis, the list of presets there's no problem, but Cubasis handle presets in his own interface.
I also noticed that the slow-down of the beats happens only while you load Ruismaker into AUM, then you control it from an external sequencer using just midi.
It is very stable in IAA mode...
At least the problem is there into Modstep, gonna test midi with Cubasis...
Can you make the white list slide in? (Press the little name-widget that pops up when you tap a channel button). The list should then slide into view. But it's clear I need to fix this, because this same issue is also responsible for the erratic behavior of the list in AUM's floating windows.
Thanks!
