This sounds like the voice of reason from the UK at least
I recommend VoxSyn
I would love it if someone would release a vocoder that allows you to input both the carrier and the modulator.
Great stuff , might buy this to cheer myself up after the abysmal UK Brexit vote
Does the apesoft app Sparkle do something similar to that?
Could build something in S'uX to attempt this but it only has one stereo input. Although you could use a looped sample for the carrier or modulator I guess.
Did you have a particular effect in mind?
Being able to choose both the carrier and the modulator gives you unlimited choice. It is nice that this app gives you 600 Tera presets to chose from, but imagine being able to plug in any app/sound and use it. 600 vs. unlimited. I want unlimited.
I understand, unlimited choice sounds nice. Just wondering whether useful or musical is also applicable. I guess we won't know until someone makes such a thing.
This isn't my original concept. There are hardware and software vocoders that already do this.
it's probably the same (or a similiar) approach as in Sparkle
while VoxSyn is focusssed on a note based 'vocoding' effect, in Sparkle it's rather a side effect of the spectral processing when a vocal sound is fed into any side of the IO
Sparkle does an amazing job, imho it outperforms former ProSoniq (now Zynaptiq) stuff (Morph)
it can process any sample (or subsection thereof) with live sound = any synth you like
the user interface is extraordinarily convenient + perfect midi control
one of my most crucial apps... which means it's justified to buy an iPad just to run this app
cheers, Tom
Thanks, I have Sparkle and it is fun, but it isn't a 10 (or more) band vocoder capable of processing two realtime signals.
Oh, I forgot to mention that I bought Voxsyn. I haven't had a chance to give it a good go yet, but I have it on my phone and it is fun. Most vocoder apps are. I haven't had a chance to really see how accurate the pitch tracking is; this is the feature that got me to buy it. The percussion presets didn't work as well as I had hoped, but otherwise pretty good.
I still want a real-time dual vocoder that takes any carrier signal.
Would be more interested if I could edit the synth settings and make my own presets....
It does have the VirSyn randomizer button for sounds so maybe there is or will be a way to import sounds from another of their synth apps. When Poseidon came out lots of people asked for sample import and they provided it in the next update, so they do listen to suggestions.
I'm most likely going to buy it when I get home as I think it sounds pretty good. Poseidon is still one of my favourite synths too.
Fair enough. I would probably buy this too if it existed, I just don't what it would give me.. yet
.
That'd be useful - I've got nearly all their other synths so an export / import option would be better than nothing
Follow-up comments: Unless I'm missing something, you can only use a mic with this. No feeding it drumloops or other apps. The random generator can hurt your ears, be careful. And as Carol noted no editing of the patches so you can't tweak them (the synth part). It has midi out, so if the pitch tracking works well that could be useful.
Thanks you all for your interest in VoxSyn...
Want to mention a fact which might not be visible at first sight:
The pitch follower in VoxSyn not only triggers the notes of the built in synthesizer, the synthesizer carrier pitch follows the voice after note on. The built in synthesizer also gives another major advantage: the latency between your voice signal and the note start / pitch following process is significantly shorter ( and barely noticeable in VoxSyn ) than any solution with a separate synthesizer.
@MrNezumi: our App iVoxel can take any carrier signal if you use it in an Audiobus context !
@Virsyn ,
Congrats!
What is the difference between Effect and Muisc Effect selection when in IAA effect slot?
I think one or the other is midi controllable
Yes, I knew. But which is for which generally.
Thank you. I am a bit lazy to find out.
Can someone educate me this valuable information?
shure, it's not even a vocoder at all... as I wrote: if it sounds 'vocodery', then by a side effect of processing
the 'similiar approach' term was in response to Jocphone's question: Does the apesoft app Sparkle do something similar to that? regarding spectral processing
cheers, Tom
@VirSyn Great release and you are one of these companies which produce excellent powerful apps. This apps demonstrate the power of the IOS platform
Already released my article: http://www.synthanatomy.com/2016/06/virsyn-released-voxsyn-for-iphone-and.html
@Virsyn ,
The 'music effect' can not be loaded or reloaded to AUM IAA slot. It is just locked, no matter how I open VoXSyn first and off it Or any method to have it on that AUM fx.
If I insert it as 'music', there is no sound can be passing through the chain on Modstep.
My device: iPad Air 2 iOS9.32

Locked

No output sound even though I am entered into VoxSyn keyboard to play.
@Telefunky - I know. I'm trying to watch my four year old boy and type at the same time which always leads to curt/slightly off replies.
@VirSyn - Do you mean the modulator? I can see how to feed it drum loops now (thanks), but is there a way to change the carrier?
@MrNezumi - no i meant another App: iVoxel ( https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/ivoxel/id382428641?mt=8 )
In VoxSyn it is not possible to have an external carrier. The unique way VoxSyn is working (as outlined in my other post) can only be done with a tightly integrated synthesizer engine.
@Kaikoo2 will recheck this later and come back to you.
@VirSyn Would Tera patch imports be possible?
@VirSyn - OK. I missed the bit about iVoxel. I already own that. I took it off my iPad a long time ago for some reason (no Audiobus?), I'll reinstall and check it out.
Voxsyn is interesting in its own way and I look forward to giving a good test run this weekend.
I am now running it with Cream to Animoog, chained from Audiobus to AUM.
Each preset has its own synth engine buried deep inside the sound Engine.
It is kind of picking sounds from electronic voices for your original sound. Quite a different perspective. It is not I like or love or not. It is a brand new voice wave.
For example, the default Animoog sound passing it, the output can sound like anything from VoxSyn preset I prefer to choose from. It can be organ, or pluck or any...
Cream has the gate, octave and rate to tune patterns further on arpeggiation
@VirSyn I love it
I'm buying it now but booooo to no au
