Once again, fell for the new app hype. This thing keeps crashing for me. Reinstalled. Somewhat stable now, but end up losing all audio and have to do reboot. ipadAir2 latest iOS

Doesn't really feel like such a new app. Kinda sorta like they cannibalized updates intended for their other apps, and just repackaged them all into a new app with a new name to sell at an "introductory" price that's basically the same price as their other apps. Am I missing something here? Kinda feel like I paid to be a beta tester with this crashing already. :(

Oh well... cost less than the lousy matinee movie I went to see yesterday, and maybe the next update will fix it.

Hasn't crashed for me but there are bugs.

I like it, I'm getting a fivers worth of fun out of it and will look forward to the fixes. Would love to be able to edit the synth settings though.

I'm sure it'll get ironed out. I haven't spent enough time with it yet, but it should be cool for soundscape fx... which is really the only reason I bought it. Was just initially put off by the bugs of completely losing all audio for the ipadAir2 that I could only get back with a hard restart. Happened twice. Was using Blocs Wave as the input. Did the same with Animoog as the input. The first time I just did a restart and it crashed with no audio again. The second time I did the shut/down hold home button thing, THEN did a hard reset... so far, seems to have taken care of it, but kind of offputting out of the gate.

I've had a lot of fun putting a rhythm (e.g. Patterning) through it, and using the performance section to change key - you can build up interesting rhythmic melodies that way - good to use in Blocs or just jam over.

    @MrNezumi - no i meant another App: iVoxel ( https://itunes.apple.com/en/app/ivoxel/id382428641?mt=8 )
In VoxSyn it is not possible to have an external carrier. The unique way VoxSyn is working (as outlined in my other post) can only be done with a tightly integrated synthesizer engine.

Can the note matrix be made to have chords instead of single notes? I always find it tricky to play on screen accurately, especially chords. If not, could this be added, with resizeable buttons if possible for live use.

Congrats on launch, looks like ivoxel pro. I'm very fond of the original.

Voting no, for me anyway, was about so much more than individual issues. This country was being destroyed by the unelected bureaucrats of the EU. In the past we had two world wars to stop unaccountable elite enacting their will. Surely, it's better to get change via democracy?

I seldom react on forums but that was really sad and pathetic to read.
Such an appalling ignorance! I didn't know people could be that stupid, actually.

  • can we keep vocoding and politics as separate topics? :)

Anyone tried this on guitar? (Voxsyn as apposed to leaving the EU)

Yes please. I go to Reddit for the back and forth political bashing, I don't need it here.

@iamspoon The pitch follower only works with strict monophonic sounds, the cleaner the sound the better. But if you switch the follower off ( Settings -> Follow Voice Pitch ) then everything will work.

@supadom Ideas are always welcome... The chord feature is already in my mind :-)

@kobamoto MIDI learn is not there yet.

  • @VirSyn I've been having random crashes with Tera Synth ad the 'Export' feature lately.

I do have a suggestion to extend the import and share/export functionality of all l Virsyn apps to include support for iCloud Drive/iOS-Document Picker. This would make patch-sharing and importing of patches and recordings a lot smoother. I think I need to isolate myself when playing with VoxSyn or people might think I'm bonkers :D

  • @Samu we have experienced this too lately and are already trying to iron this out.

The unification of sharing functionality over all our Apps is a major theme here too.

Testing here was also only possible with strict isolation rules :D

I own and enjoy most of the Virsyn apps, so will probably pick this one up as well. But I am not sure the difference between this an iVoxel in practice.

    My understanding of VoxSyn is:
    a) I pick a TERA synth preset
    b) I sing into the app
    c) The app detects pitch and envelope, and uses to play the synth preset at right pitch, applying appropriate formant filters given spoken sound

Would this sound different than playing TERA through Audiobus to iVoxel and singing the same part, or even just speaking the part if TERA synth provides pitched notes?

    Just curious! Thanks.

Your understanding of VoxSyn is perfectly right.

There are two major differences between VoxSyn and other solutions:

    1) There is nearly no latency between your voice and the output of VoxSyn because no inter app (MIDI) communication is needed. This makes a lot for the "snappy" feeling of the app.

    2) In VoxSyn the pitch follows your voice at any time ( e.g. between note on and off ). Vibrato, slides, ... all are immediately changing the pitch of the carrier wave from the synth engine.

Brilliant! The chord buttons don't have to be all there. It could be just a few hexagons with assignaeable chords required for particular song. Chordion has nailed it IMO.

...but I'm sure you can make it even awesome...r!

  • @VirSyn , question please, Sometimes sound doesn't come out through the Voxsyn, for example using a mic or sound from another app, there is simply no sound coming out (of Voxsyn.
I tested with variety of different loops (from drums, voice, piano, to bass etc) and it will start to play then stop, sometimes no sound at all... Does it have anything to do with the type and pitch of sound coming in and a type of patch?
Sometimes it will only let sound pass if I play the keys....
    Thanks

I had this last night putting Patterning through it via aum - couldn't get any sound from it, even when pressing the keys and turning off the pitch follow. Bit weird, but after clicking a few different presets it started working.

@VirSyn any chance of letting us have access to they synth controls? :)

  • As I've understood VoxSyn uses the same synthesis engine and patch format as Tera Synth and is even (with a little workaround) able to use Tera patches.

So one awesome thing @VirSyn could do is to apply 'shared storage container' between their own apps just like the 'bond' between Korg apps(Module, iM1 and Gadget) and AUM&AudioShare. That would make it all a pretty seamless experience :)

  • @VirSyn record bug fix works great. Thanks for quick work :)

  • thanks for the info

  • @VirSyn is there an ETA for the AU version?

  • Any way to configure this to be used as a talkbox or similar? I'd like to play my guitar and have it mix the sound of the guitar with the pitch/sound of my voice. Already I can see this app is super powerful, and I was already a huge fan of iVoxel (but I like this better). I'm thinking something in Audiobus or some kind of mixing but I need some hints how I might configure things.

  • @fprintf You could try this - audio to midi app converter then feed the midi into VoxSyn and your voice should follow the incoming midi notes.

  • This app is pretty impressive. Vocoding with pitch detection and minimal lag with plenty of experimental and useful sounds. I have been playing with vocoders for about fifteen years, some I paid way too much for.

This is on par with a Fairlight Voicetracker or Roland VT-70 pitch to midi tracker WITH a synth and effects section that you can tweak. Having lots of fun here processing other synths and drum machines, using a contact mic and avoiding feedback while playing with it like Impaktor on steroids. Feedback can be fun too.

    7 bucks.

  • Could we make a poll on this forum for a Nathanexit ?

    Just sayin...

  • I tried to update the app, but it just says waiting and won't open it also won't delete.
Anybody else having problems since the last update?

  • No all good here

  • Tried this a little and was making a right mess, but subsequent to Sir Doug's video plugged in the Microkey and must say the possibilities and quality opened up. Yes, you have to figure out how not to sound like Jeff Lynne or the daft boys, but it has real instrumental and atmospheric options. Pleased with the purchase.

Haven't tried it with an external keyboard - is there much of a difference compared to the on-screen one?

There is for me, but I am a very poor player and that is multiplied by screen fiddling (a disadvantage I labor through on iOS daily :))

Just an example of some extreme weirdness I recorded live last night with VoxSyn, showing it can do more than just standard vocoder stuff.
