I would not need 'Files & Folders' at all if there was sufficient filtering and tagging available
As long as I know I have a file it would be nice to not have bother where it's stored....

Something to replace the idea of a file is over my head, and maybe I haven’t worked with tags enough, but creating a system of folders and subfolders is a hierarchy I can see and work with visually. Tags and filters serve a purpose, but they don’t replace that established system for me. If I have a file, I think saving it in a place is often easier than tagging it, and sometimes I won’t be able to remember a tag, but I can see a list of folders that tell me what’s in them. Dragging a folder somewhere with all its files is easier than coming up with a unique tag that will reliably filter so as to get only the files I want. I like files and folders, but I’m not going to turn down tags, filters, or any quantum thingamobobs that might help.
Well, think 'smart search' so a 'folder' is just a smart search containing containing objects with a search criteria set by you
Say all *.wav files from a certain date-interval with song/project-name as 'tag' as an example. I do this for all my photos and it beats dedicated file/folder structure for sure.
In practice the file system is already a huge data-base with a few alternate methods of exploring the content.
Robust file management is a momumental pain - especially when the OS works against you rather than for you.
In an actual computer, on an actual storage medium, there isn't actually such a thing as a folder. On the disc surface, there's pieces of file scattered across sectors and tracks, but you won't find a thing that corresponds to a folder. That's purely a figment of the imagination of the disc operating system, extended to the user by a jedi mind trick of filtering, so that when you open a 'folder' you see not every file on the drive, but only some of them, that have that particular 'folder' (along with its name) as an attribute of the file. The problem with folders is that a file can only be in one of them at a time. With tags, a file can have more than one tag and therefore as long as you've tagged it with good tags it will show up under a variety of approaches to search for it.
Tagging is very much useful for photography - I'd hate to squirrel photos away into dead-end folders, I'd never remember which particular one it was in, years later. With tags, as long as I've tagged it with a fair number of tags, I'm likely to remember at least one of those and get it back later.

No problemo. if I was living near the 'Cubasis HQ' I would have already paid them a visit and showed them in person all the 'issues' and how it affects the more 'advanced' users of Cubasis. A lot easier to 'show' and 'discuss' rather than trying to put everything into words
@Samu I would really like to see them implement also Folder/Group tracks
I guess there are worse things than having users complain about what to do with all the copious files they're making with your software.

Regarding the 'Track Freeze Issues' I'm writing this 'Dear Lars(@LFS) Letter' that should kindly forwarded to the Cubasis development team for evaluation and potential 'correction' as soon as possible.
As mentioned in many previous posts here at the forum this 'bug' has plagued Cubasis for a long time!
With the arrival of IAA-Instruments and AudioUnit-Extension(AUv3) Plug-Ins track-freezing has become an essential tool to save CPU-Resources and to overcome the limitation of only being able to use one instance instance of an IAA-Instrument.
The attached image shows the 'bug'(frozen audio is not aligned to the grid thus doesn't match the midi-notes) in action when freezing a simple track containing an AUv3 Plug-in (The amazing Ruismaker FM by @brambos).
This bug is not present when freezing tracks containing Cubasis Mini-Sampler or Cubasis Microsonic but is present when freezing tracks containing Cubasis Micrologue and just about any available IAA-Instrument or AUv3 Instrument!
This 'bug' is also present when doing a 'Mixdown' of a project...
I know that not all IAA-Instruments or AUv3 Plug-Ins are created equal and this will be a challenging task to fix.
I do know that the Cubasis 'buffer-size' and 'midi-delay' play an important role here as they affect the results of the frozen track as changing these parameters affects the outcome of the frozen track.
My current somewhat tedious work-around is to create an empty midi-region at the start of the track to avoid having the initial transients being 'cut-off'(the audio arrives too early!) and after that do precise trimming in 'time-mode' for sample-accuracy...
I would appreciate an honest answer regarding this issue and also a hint on what is being done to 'correct/fix' it?
(I'm using Cubasis 2.0 on an iPad AIr 2 iOS10.0.2).

I see this all the time at work with email. There are people who compulsively store every email in organized folders, and then there are people who do no organization but rely on search to find what they need.
My experience (having dealt with 1,000's of users) is the ones who organized were more successful up until the last 15 years or so, but now that search tools are so robust and fast virtually 100% of the time people are more successful with search than they are with filing. The Internet itself is proof of that. Just think back to the days of Yahoo "organizing" the Internet, and Google's subsequent triumph.
That said, my experience is there is absolutely no way to change people thinking one way or another. "Filers" are set in their need to do so, and "Pilers" are incapable of it. Fortunately, search doesn't care either way.
The difference is one doesn't even need to tag to search files, web pages, email, etc to be able to quickly search them. Audio is different as there are no built in words. So, tagging is a good alternative IMO.
@u0421793 is completely right. "Folders" are really only tags that an OS or application sort, group, and then represent as folders. I wonder if people who organize files into folders realize that all they are really doing is a specialized type of tagging? Only instead of typing in a tag name, it is applied by dragging the file into the folder.
I doubt that there is any serious challenge in sorting, grouping, and then presenting a pile of files this way. The OS only gets in the way if you're relying on it to it to organize files. There's nothing to stop an application presenting files as if they're in folders (even though they're really not). Absolutely it can't be anywhere near as difficult as the serious audio and GUI shit these guys do.
However I can totally see why people geared toward audio processing programming would be put off by having to divert into something so mundane as file organization. And in the scale of thinking about "what is going to sell more of this product", I can't imagine file organization being high on the list. As much as we want (need) it, I can't imagine new customers browsing the App Store looking for DAWs based on files organization.

Cubasis is and will remain my DAW of choice for my iPad even with all the 'new' stuff coming out I always return to Cubasis!
Thankfully importing audio from other apps is pretty smooth but the 'file/document management' is another area that needs some attention.(I know you're all well aware of this).
The 'objects' inside Cubasis could be 'tagged' with BPM, Projectname, Filetype, Genre etc.
Finding/Selecting files could then be done using a 'filter' and a 'tag cloud' making it easy to find the item we're looking for.
Files 'saved' to the Mediabay would naturally and automatically get tagged with BPM and 'Source Project Name' etc.
That 'tags' should also be as easy to edit as changing a filename.
I trust you'll all do the right thing(s) when push comes to shovel

I'm new to cubasis , just picked it up as the half price offer seemed to good to pass on, anyway I'm hooked... As a writing tool it's amazing, intuitive and quick to get ideas down along with a decent set of usable sounds.
One question I saŵ a few times on this thread which didn't get an answer as far as I see.
Is there any plan to do some screen enhancements for those of us on the 12.9" iPad Pro? It's just a little too blocky in some ways at the moment, for want of a better description.

Hi, as someone whom has had cubasis a long time now yet not used it I could do with some advice so I can decide whether to delve deeper and use it or just not spend my time on it.
I use a mix of iOS and hardware in my set up and this is all midi synced from a Beatstep Pro which is used as the master clock and works well for this function at least.
Can cubasis be set into a slave mode so it can be controlled from the Beatstep Pro (clock and transport controls) ?
Hoping one of you more knowledgable experts can advise.
All my hardware & IOS gets mixed down and recorded into external hardware mixing / recording desk but would love to be able to record midi tracks into cubasis and sync all hardware / IOS together into the external mixer/ recorder.
Just to add to above would only be using cubasis to control apps within IOS, all the hardware have their own in built sequencers / arps, just need it all to sync.
For that AUM and ModStep are honestly a better solutions. If I understood the situation correctly you wan't to use your iOS device as a 'sound-module' and keep all the apps 'in sync' since you already do the recording on other devices?
This really puzzled me, the new channel strip has a set of controls labeled "Side Chain"...
I found that too. But can't seem to figure out how it works. @LFS could you please

Thanks for the advice, you may well be right. I do on the whole use the iPad as a 'sound module' although I am tempted to look at more in depth use. Generally i am not a great fan of DAWS, but sometimes feel I should drag myself into the 21st century.
I use AUM at moment and it works very well within my requirements. I would like to be able to record the IOS elements of my workflow and then be able to remix the IOS elements as required and re-record. At the moment if I record the iPad output externally then obviously I am recording the output signal as it is and then that mix is 'fixed' on the hardware recording.
Tend to use the iPad for drums (usually patterning plus one other) and polysynth type stuff.
I will look at Modstep as I have not used it.
I would also like to look at Cubasis as a means to put down ideas which I can develop further into my hardware etc. later.

For me that was somewhat obvious. You can 'tune in'(Using frequency and q) on the noise that the noise-gate will cut out(To my ear, that's is the way it works?!).
When you press the 'listen' button you will hear the audio that will be filtered out.

I don't use/see it/need it as filing per se, an organization of the past and work done, but want something that allows me to designate and organize things to be ready and easily accessible for work as yet undone....I will accept that some of this is also a need to 'tidy up', but as it is the nature of (my) work on iOS to generate a lot of different bits and pieces and Cubasis now (in a good way) exacerbates that, I would like to see this issue addressed in some way....
