You can not use the AUv3 UI to automate since there is no way to record the events from the AUv3 UI.

Technically that is actually possible, but no hosts have implemented this to date. All they have to do is put a 'listener' on the AU's parameter tree.

Oki, I'll give a 'hint' to @mathieugarcia about that ;)

My testing main focus has been on sampling & synthesis when it comes to the app in question to be totally honest...

Howdy Lars, I tried to log on to the Steinberg forum but am having issues (contradictory errors of 'email unknown' when I try to log in but then it says the email exists already when I try to register anew with it, yada yada etc.)

Anyway, I was going to post a feature request for:

    'Time Stretching Midi Objects'

This is an awesome feature I use on a PC Daw all the time to double or halve the playback of a midi object. It is super useful for building tracks and the button already exists on the Cubasis UI for audio, it just gets greyed out when selecting a midi object. I don't imagine this would be too difficult to do. Even if you could only halve or double the length and it was destructive, that would be fine too!

    Hi AudioGus,

Thanks for your suggestion, added to the list of feature requests.

    Best,
    Lars

    Cool, thanks Lars!

I am curious if AU parameters may show up in the Automation section at some point? Not sure if this is technicaly possible given the AU framework but If Cubasis had that and midi time stretching, well I would rarely turn my PC on.

Auria Pro automates Both instrument and effect AUx. So it's definitely already possible. Just not implemented yet in cubasis.

Does this work similarly to how Samu describes BM3 does in this comment?https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/comment/344612/#Comment_344612

That is, you can control the parameters from knobs you assign in Auria, or even draw on an X&Y graph?
Point being, that you can NOT, record the parameter changes made from within the UI of the AU itself?

Yea. It's only drawing the lines. Still better than Nothing in cubasis in terms of AUx effects.

    Thanks for the tech tip!
I'm assuming this API exposes the 'plain english' names for parameters. So the DAW could use those descriptions in automation displays.

Now we just need to get the AU supporting DAWs to implement this :)

Huh, that's funny Apple doesn't seem to have an account here :/

@Samu can you comment on how BM3 will handle AU parameter automation?

Currently you can 'draw' automations for AUv3 parameters.
You can not use the AUv3 UI to automate since there is no way to record the events from the AUv3 UI.

You can however assign AUv3 parameters to BM3's 'macro knobs' and those can be 'recorded'...
(This is still being worked to make things even smoother and it's one of the areas of the sequencer I'm currently testing together with the rest of the app).

My personal focus with BM3-Testing is on 'sampling & synthesis as that's the area i feel most comfortable with :)

On the subject of BM3's sequencer perhaps you can assuage @hellquist concerns on this thread:

But they do read threads here from time to time.

Not the worst way to go, methinks.

  • Little confused about the Au parameter automation - in AEM here a screenshot of Ape Filter loaded in, seems you can Edit, save, recall Params... is this what you all refer to?

Interesting, can you record those parameters by tweaking the knobs on the AU's user interface? That's what we were talking about.

@brambos Don't think so, but will check when back on tonight- emailed dev to ask as well.

I've tried it a few times - I'm still unsure if I'm doing something wrong, or it's not possible - haven't got word back. You can definitely draw in all the available parameters on the timeline/waveform. I'm down for advocating this feature tho - I work mostly with a Host - being able to pick up, save, recall those parameters would be be one of those beneficial Host/Parasite relations

Absolutely! It has become a central hub of most of my projects now since then.
