sending vast amounts of MIDI information via a web interface in realtime will clog very quickly, fine if you dont want to do it in realtime.

For sure. I'm just saying the amount of data involved with bi-direction communication on the Circuit is minimal compared to something like Reaper (and the Reaper Web UI works pretty well it would appear). Or even minimal compared to something like a KMI instrument, which will fill a MIDI pipe quickly with just a couple of notes played, yet KMI use it as an example controller for a Web MIDI tutorial here: https://www.keithmcmillen.com/blog/making-music-in-the-browser-web-midi-api/

Considering they're doing sample and session transfer via web midi, I'm guessing there's some other (non-technical) reason they haven't implemented their own synth editor.

Could this be a security measure, isn't the transfer of this data, a low level firmware flash.

Could be. I'm really not sure.

  • I saw a post on the circuit owners group that said isotonik have no plans for an iOS editor/librarian, even after all the requests and people (including me) being willing to pay for it.
My circuit is stuck on v1.2 I think, so no flipping sample flipping for me :(
I can't bring myself to buy another laptop just to have that functionality.

I'm not letting that corrupted 'isotonik' program anywhere near my Mac. A week or so ago I got my Mac out of the place of storage, connected it all up to monitor, keyboard and so on, and tried it. OS X pointed out that it is damaged, and that I should delete it. So I did. Too dodgy.

This is a well-documented issue and a driver needs updated on the Mac, and likely a security feature to temporarily disable.

    I had this happen too.

It's not true that any Mac software downloaded from outside the App Store does this. I've downloaded and installed lots of other Mac apps recently that don't say they are broken.

I have mailed tech support for a work around as their website said I should but 2 days later they have not replied yet.

There's a blurb about it on the Isotonik site toward the bottom of page: http://isotonikstudios.com/novation-x-isotonik/novation-circuit-editor/.

Here's a link to more tech explanation: https://macmule.com/2015/11/12/some-mac-app-store-apps-damaged-prompting-for-redownload/

Thanks. They got back to me about it and it's now installed. Ready for Xmas day :)

Do you know someone with a laptop who can upgrade the Circuit for you, v1.4 really is worth while !

I could possibly find someone, but then comes the problem of getting sounds on and off the machine. I would have thought you could easily spend s few hours doing that?
Maybe I need to persuade the missus that we NEED a MacBook or similar ;)

Yes indeed you could spend days, months even, setting up custom samples and programming custom synth patches.....

Again, this is another reason why MAX patches are poor form, there is no save to IOS for MAX (Last time i checked anyway)
Novation have no excuses here, they are obviously working with somebody who can code natively (Launchpad for example) and they are owned by Focusrite or the holding company that owns Focusrite, and they have plenty of native software.
Basically this poor support will kill this product, seen it a million times before.

You made me snort my milk out my nose. The support and improvements for Circuit over the last year are nothing short of amazing. The Circuit we have now is an order of magnitude cooler and more useful than a year ago.

It's a shame that the editor won't have a native iOS version but if you check out the owners group you can can find configurations for several iOS MIDI control surface apps that offer at least some of the same features.

Agree, apart from the milk snorting, ouch! Hope it doesn't become a habit.

  • Yeah like the continual updates of Automap, that would make it the universal controller to end all controllers, Novation supported that with useful updates for a while too hahaha.
It is not simply about native IOS< there is no native WIn or OSX either, it is a MAX patch that relies on 3rd parties to support it, if you can't see that that is a bad support decision, that is your problem, i am neither disrespecting Circuit or its firmware updates, but you obviously cant see that.

I'm guessing the use of MAX comes from a desire to allow full control of the circuit synths from within Ableton....Which i am also guessing is the large majority of Circuit users ?

  • I'm guessing the use of MAX comes from knowing some fella down the road who will do it for cheap, but we can all carry on guessing as much as we want.

What is it with you and your negativity......I'm a glass half full type of person, so please refrain from your incessant moaning about how this is crap and that is crap.

I am quite happily making music with the tools provided to me in the form of lots of supposedly half baked iOS apps

This forum (largely) self-moderates and does so by doing our best to see the other guy's view, recognize that we come from all over the place, both geographically and musically, and trying to understand that getting along is part of what makes it work, unlike much of the internet. It's a pretty friendly place and largely (not always) upbeat. Seems folks like it that way.

  • Have any of you circuit owners tried using the Web MIDI browser app to see if you can access the Web MIDI functionality for loading and backing up the Circuit?

So i have to agree with everything they say ?
Because all i have done is have my own opinion, and was sworn at and told to leave, but surely that is not seeing my point of view, that is just getting nasty because they don't agree.
I never asked them to agree.
Oh does it only count when everybody is being all cuddly and happy about everything ?

  • OK, very strange behaviour.

  • @Flexinoodle I'm not wanting to get in the middle of anything here but I do want to highlight that @JohnnyGoodyear 's "Po" may not be as rude or abrupt as you may be thinking.

Johnny has explained his use of "Po" previously in the forum. I don't have a direct quote but I remember it being equivalent to a 'shrug of the shoulders' or something.

    Cheers :)
