How do you stop the flippin’ Apple Music icon from continuously popping up on your dock?

Settings, dock, recommended apps > off

  • A really nice feature in iOS11 us the inclusion of the Apple TV remote control in the widgets screen. I haven’t touched the ATV RC since discovering this. Very slick and convenient!

As for updating, I have an Air 2 as well and for the last two years was very conscious of the pitfalls of early adoption. The only reason I kind of rolled the dice day one is I'm going to get a 10.5 iPad Pro a lot sooner thsn later, and since it will ship with iOS11 at that point I just gave it a whirl.

@skiphunt is right though, unless you're DYING for the few GUI differences, and admittedly the dock is badass, waiting for another dot update or two isn't going to leave you in the cold. The true promise of iOS 11 isn't really going to take hold until apps adopt the Files app compatibility & when all the audio centric stuff is solid (MIDI, etc). 11 is cool, but it's not there yet.

    Be cool... JohnRSIV

Thanks for the warm welcome. I am going to wait a while to update. The file sharing features are what I'm interested in mostly. I'll update (I think) once they've got it sorted.

Thanks. That was the first thing I did. It still comes back when I have headphones plugged in and use the App Store. Will reboot again.

  • A hard reset sorted it had a few problems all TC apps plus LP-5.

One question: Since they’ve removed the left-swipe to bring up split screen apps, if you don’t display recent apps, how will you be able to drag or add non-docked apps to the split screen?

It would seem that we need two buttons, one to show/hide suggested apps (to hide Apple music), and one to show/hide recent apps (which we can keep enabled to allow dragging of non-docked apps).

Apple music does not appear in my dock...I have suggested apps enabled

  • What's with every app being pre enabled to talk to Siri? What does it do?

Automation so you can launch the apps by 'talking' to Siri...

  • I'm observing that no one is complaining about serious breaks. Way less noise than before.

The relative silence is swaying me to update.

Indeed, most noise seems to be about the new features and not about things being broken.

I gained 700MB through upgrading, when I usually cruise at 300-400 MB free that is not to be sniffed at, and the new dock and appswitching is pretty nice.

Overall its worth it I'd say.

I also gained a little gig after the update. It’s not to be sniffed at, at all.
Only thing I absolutely hate, is the new AppStore

  • App store is definitely a downgrade, especially on iphone, where there's not much screen room. It looks like a magazine now, not a store.

I am noticing that my air1 is not as smooth on day 2, I think a cleaning is in order anyway so I may try that, but once a few apps are open (not music, anything) then things seem to get sluggish more easily than in ios10. But that may settle down and I am slowly accepting that I now have the "bottom of the line" device there.

I do notice that on the iPhone 6s I am getting some glitches with the third party swipe keyboard I use (SwiftKey) - it is sometimes refusing to pop up when needed, instead I get nothing or a blank space. I did get that sometimes in previous os versions, but not as often and usually the remedy was a little quicker.

Overall though I like the update, the dock is a nice feature.

You should be able to just drag and drop the icon into your dock, if you want it always there - Suggested is also Recents, so it will pop up on the right side if you’ve opened and clos3d the Music app.

  • On the AppStore I’m seeing the “you may also like” section a lot more for iOS instrument apps. Of course I already have 99% of what is being presented. But hopefully this will increase visibility and sales for AU instrument developers

I TOTALLY AGREE - AppStore is ruined.

It’s like a place I used to come to every day, to relax with a cig and a coffe... it’s now gone.
    My wish-list is gone (sulk)

Thanks dude :D I wasn’t saying I wanted it there, just pointing out that it is not necessarily there because of recommended apps settings, something else must be at play also if people have turned off the setting and it keeps reappearing.

  • On the wifi / bluetooth not shutting off in the control center, I smell a rat - a big fat sneaky rat.

But, I did discover that if you go to the settings and disable it there, you can re-enable it (in both places) from the control center. I can live with that now that I know.

    Shooting dirty pool, for sure.

A long press on those icons should give the choice of turning them off completely, otherwise it's pretty useless to even have those controls there at all. Oh well, settings icon will have to go on the dock for now.

  • i cant believe how bad the new app store sucks. how could a team of people probably hundreds of people that made this possible think this is better

  • Settings, music, turn off show Apple Music @gusgranite

I'm thinking I'll wait until the weekend before I update my Mini 2 or Air 1, but I haven't decided which will go first.

As far as I can tell most actual reports range from indifferent to positive. I see very few real or severe issues. Not sure why all the negativity is warranted in this case. Not referring to you specifically, just in general I see a lot of unfounded cynicism and complaining?

It may surprise you that I agree. :)

Most people seem to be okay with their devices, and in general the new iPad Pros are an improvement. As is IOS 11, with a few strange exceptions.

However, the above does not excuse Apple behaving badly, or their less for more strategy. As a developer, you know better than most how greedy they are, and how restrictive. But, IOS is the better platform, so we endure.

  • Oops, the update put on iMessage & Facetime automagically :(
Although I put them out again hope not that it messed up my contacts. Seems something iMessage does...

I wouldnt do it. My iPad Air will remain iOS 10.33.
I’ve seen speed tests on YouTube and the iPhone 6s is the first generation that gained speed with iOS 11. Older versions was remarkably slower. And the new AppStore is useless...
    cheers.

Thanks for the info. From everything I've read so far, I haven't seen any benefit other than gaining a bit of extra storage space. My Mini 2 is only 16gb. I'd rather delete some apps if I needed more space. None of the new features appeal to me or enhance the music making experience. So I'm gonna stay with 10.33. I just hope Apple doesn't start forcing the download like it kept doing when I was on iOS 9. Having to delete it every few weeks was getting annoying.
